Of course they can, and as @gsxrpilot said they could raise higher and we would still pay. I was more complaining about their business tactic of reaching out 3 months prior with a BS small increase in the midst of all of this. It's not even like they can "lock you in" before it gets bad since I can leave on (30) days notice without any penalty. I suppose the new federal government protection on evictions doesn't apply to aircraft hangars? Also, getting a hangar here wasn't actually that bad. It was around a 2 month wait to get one. Another hangar complex on the north side of the airport was bought by a new FBO and raised the rates $200/month. A bunch of their tenants moved out so for a period of time you could get one there immediately. I'm not sure if they are still available.

Yes I'm at FXE too.

It’s 6.75 at my airport so I fly 60 miles and buy it for 3.58...

Mooney down over New Hall Pass • Los Angeles

Real names also help control the commentary. -
Well I thought I'd let everyone know of probably the dumbest PR move yet in the wake of this virus. My hangar lease is up in July and Sheltair thought this would be a good time to send my renewal paperwork with a rent increase of $15 (already probably the highest in the country). The $15 is somewhat immaterial to both Sheltair and myself in the long run, but talk about the worst timing possible to send out this notice. The pilot community is small.

“You got a 757 on a 10 mile final, any traffic in the pattern please advise” ”Will that be a full stop 757?” ”757, runway 18 is LEFT traffic only”

It would seem that smaller class D could just go untowered for a period of time if there was a real worry... Hard to see why they would close untowered, less busy airports at all..

I usually just restart microsoft flight simulator when my PC is giving me an issue.

It would seem that a large percentage of people on this forum who are active are more than capable of selling their plane without a broker. It involves taking pictures, listing it on the various sites, and then answering phone calls. Almost everyone here has the knowledge of their aircraft to answer any informed technical question. The broker seems most valuable for someone who may not fly often, doesn't spend a lot of time researching maintenance and other issues of their aircraft, or literally has no time to take phone calls, meet people at the plane, ect...

Out of curiosity, what kind of haircut does All American typically give if you wanted to sell it them? For example, let's say the "real" fair market value of your plane was $200,000, what % lower would All American pay for it? (if they buy planes at all or just broker, I don't know their model).

In my experience it takes a lot longer for 100LL to come down because the volume used is so much lower. The prices we are seeing at the 100LL pumps right now are probably still reflective of a raw material cost near $50. I have no idea how low 100LL will go since it's a small and somewhat monopolistic market but we should see some good benefits when they start distributing it using $30 oil.

Odd ATC interaction. Real emergency?
Davidv replied to DXB's topic in Mooney Safety & Accident Discussion
Yeah, no doubt that controller handled it in the wrong way. That was a ridiculous METAR to be declaring an emergency in (but could have been different away from airport) so if I was the controller and thought it was BS I would have laid it on real thick while being extremely helpful in the meantime. I don't have any controller experience so excuse my inaccuracies, but I would have handled it in the following way as soon as the emergency was declared: 1. "Turn left heading XXX, airport is 5 miles" 2. State souls on board and fuel remaining 3. Will you require foam to be sprayed on the runway? 4. You are now 4 miles from the airport 5. Do you need me to turn up the intensity on the approach lights? 6. You are now 3 miles from the airport 7. Still good with no foam? 8. You are 2 miles from the airport 9. Emergency vehicles standing by 10. Cleared to land I'm obviously being a little facetious, but my point is erring on the side being way too helpful (in a genuine way) will accomplish the same thing as questioning the pilot's decision to declare. -
Related question, are all nose trusses different or did Mooney use pretty much the same one across many models? I’m asking from a replacement perspective rather than different limits.

M20M bravo tks speed brakes in icing condtions

Going for that autopilot disconnect switch? I haven't done it in a while but I've done that once by accident shortly after getting the plane, fortunately not in icing. -
Love of flying in the Time of Coronavirus

We have our Florida Mooney lunch tomorrow. I haven't heard of a cancellation so as of now the show goes on! I feel like I should clarify that I respect the gravity of the situation and will take whatever precautions possible to protect myself and others. The polarization here seems to rival a political view thread and it shouldn't. Everyone is in a different situation. I'm sure some people on this forum live in remote air parks where they don't have to go near other people if they desire. Others are in cities where it's near impossible to lock yourself in a bubble. Unless you cook all your meals at home and never interact with another human you're at some sort of risk. -

Yes I don't think anyone is laughing so that may have been a mis-characterization in my post. I was trying to come up with an alternative description of the emotion this poster is trying to evoke other than the term "woke" (which is by far my most hated word in the English language). I can't believe I just wrote it. -

Agreed. This graphic may have made people chuckle about a month ago but now it's pretty irrelevant. Last I checked, all of those diseases were hyped but none had proven community spread anywhere near what we are seeing here. So yes, the media has a natural incentive to create hype for eyeballs, but this graphic is starting to look a lot "the world is flat" propaganda. -
Switch Tanks, Switch Tanks, Switch Tanks!
Davidv replied to donkaye, MCFI's topic in Miscellaneous Aviation Talk
I may be a little ignorant in this area, but I don't believe there are a lot of cases where a turbo fails in mid flight and you don't have other big problems on your hands. It doesn't seem like it would just wind down without some sort of exhaust or V band clamp failure ect... which would basically result in a blow torch in my engine compartment near fuel lines, oil, and other components. This just means it's get on the ground ASAP rather than just losing the turbo and operating like a NA engine. I'd be curious if there are other items that could fail which would make for a "graceful" situation where you didn't have some major (fire) problems on your hands. -
I bought my plane in Vegas and had the pre-buy done by Lone Mountain (maybe that's the shop that quoted you a high rate?). Previously my plane was maintained by EGA. I only had one experience with Lone Mountain and it was pretty good.
-
That’s a crazy good rate, when I got my instrument rating it went down to 2900 from $5k and I have a lower hull value than you.

Looks great, just curious why an overhaul at 650 hrs. Was this something that affected other encores that I’m not aware of? -

@ilovecornfields the one piece of data I’ve been curious about from the start is recoveries. Have you (or anyone else here) seen anything either in aggregate or by age group that shows total recovery time? I’d be interested to see how long from the onset of symptoms to no longer contagious (although I would suppose contagious may be difficult to prove with the limited data so far so maybe just no more symptoms). -
I also assume you’ve seen the chart in the POH that shows seconds of prime vs outside air temp? When it’s cold the priming seconds go up by a fair amount.

Ok, just make sure they are all pointed in the right direction (forward). Are they the sillicone type like the ones that @LANCECASPER and I replaced ours with or do they look like standard material that came with the engine? @LANCECASPER is way more knowledgeable than me on exact degrees ROP you should be running so I'll let him comment on that. I know people run at different numbers and you just want to keep things from getting too hot. I was speaking with someone the other day who is very knowledgeable and he said it's really not until 1850 that the turbo blades start breaking down but I don't want to test that!
