  1. Not sure how up to date these are but here are some links to find Mooney Service Centers: http://mooney-4147179.hs-sites.com/service https://themooneyflyer.com/pdf/MooneyServiceCenters.pdf http://www.mooneyevents.com/maintenance.html
  2. Number one thing to do is find a Mooney Service Center to do the pre-buy. Another thing that helped me was MAPA provided a pre-buy checklist. Not sure if they still have that, it was 25 years ago for me, but it had a good list of how to go about finding a shop to do the inspection, how to review the logs, how to get a list of liens and 337s from the FAA, etc.
  3. I have had significantly better results with the Concorde battery. For me a Gill would last 2-2.5 years and I replaced my last Concorde after 8 years of still passing capacity testing. I replaced it only because of age.
  4. Same for me, no BT problems at all from the avionics bay.
  5. Excellent, thanks! That is a great idea. I didn't know they could be copied like that.
  6. Is there a website for that baffle kit? I'd love to improve my baffles but finding something that works on the LoPresti cowling is tricky. There is a template for modifying the original baffles but the baffle seals are then somewhat problematic to get right.
  7. Yes, this is possible but I heard a rumor that Garmin stopped selling the backup battery for the 7" TXi screen which would mean you'd need something else for a backup. I'm not sure if that is true though so you'd have to check with Garmin.
  8. Yes, the LoPresti cowling was designed on my airplane. In 1999 when I was part ofthe planning committee for Mooneys to OSH, I met Roy LoPresti when I got him to be a speaker at our BBQ. He told me he was considering a cowling project and was looking for an M20J to borrow to do the development and I immediately offered my plane. It was a wonderful experience working with Roy and Curt on this project. I love the cowling and it has performed very well over the years.
  9. I guess it depends on what glass but I don't have a separate annunciator with my G500 TXi, all the annunciations are on the TXi.
  10. I've owned my 1980 M20J for a little over 25 years. The plane has met every expectation and in about 3000 hours of flying we've touched a lot of this country and have build many wonderful memories. Since I decided a long time ago that this was my forever airplane, I've never stopped upgrading and after doing interior, paint, new panel 2+ times, engine, prop, cowling, and a few speed mods. I'm thrilled to be a 201Mooniac!
  11. I have a never used Bose X microphone and cable assembly (has the control/battery box) with dual straight plugs. I bought it in case I wanted to use my headset with a lemo plug in another aircraft but never had a need to use it. It was $195 new. Looking for $150 OBO.
  12. Well if your travels take you to SJC, let me know and I can take you flying in an M20J.
  13. Your data is an almost exact match to mine which I took about 21 years ago with the first Lopresti cowl. I'm curious what KTAS you are seeing when you say yours is nicely faster. I went from 151 KTAS to 159 KTAS after the Lopresti cowl.
  14. Garmin provides a certificate in with the unit that can be redeemed for that first months worth of data. The shop should load that data for you.
  15. Yes, I did think about that but it is panel space more than cost that stopped me. If the TXi goes south, the single G5 already provides backup of attitude and navigation. The second G5 would only get me a backup of the AP. Now if the G5 or GI-275 could provide a backup to the AP while also providing EIS, that would be a winner for me. I checked with Garmin and the GI-275 if used as EIS can not drive the GFC-500 so it can't provide the backup.
  16. Yes, and thanks to Don, now mine does as well. Only issue is if the backup G5 fails, you lose your AP even though you still have your TXi. Oh well, guess I need a second G5 :-)
  17. I don't know if it is a true story or apocryphal but Dr. Bob Achtel once told me that he had to put out a small fire when his wife Rikki's lipstick (which he didn't know was petroleum based) ignited while using O2. Scary stuff to think about.
  18. I stopped by to see the damage yesterday. The hangars took a beating but the one plane that was still there was terribly crushed. It was so sad to see.
  19. Thanks for the info. I'll have to head out there and take a look.
  20. @larryb Very glad to hear your plane wasn't damaged. Do you know which hangar row this was?
  21. Still under attack. Currently the county seems to be planning a 2031 or so shutdown.
  22. Welcome, it is always nice to have another Mooney in the Bay Area. I fly an M20J out of KRHV and there are several other bay area Mooneys represented here.
  23. I would expect https://www.truebluepowerusa.com/products/aviation/usb-charging-ports/md93/ to comply, thoughts?
  24. I agree and I got a response once from Garmin (I think it was from Trek) that their devices (I asked about GTNs and G500 TXi) don't meet the IFR requirement for a clock.
  25. I also fly out of KRHV (we should meet up :-) ) and don't really find it a problem. If it is VFR anyway and I'm coming from the north, I usually cancel around ALTAM and just go in VFR. If from the south, then flying the approach isn't a big deal. While during push time from SJC it can take 10-15 mins to get a release, again if VFR anyway I can depart and pick up my clearance when over Calavaras heading north or once I'm past the class C heading south.
