  1. I'm not sure what you mean by this. The EDM 830 sporadically displays "DATALOG ERR" during flight, and has never written anything to any USB drive I've inserted. I'm not convinced it's even logging the data it's generating. If you're aware of some way other than a USB drive to retrieve data from an EDM 830, I can definitely give it a go.
  2. When I noticed the large EGT difference, I had leaned the mixture aggressively for taxiing. I then went full rich for the mag check. I'm not 100% sure if I leaned the mixture again after that, while watching it idle at 1000rpm.
  3. This evening after flying from KPAO home to 1O2 I taxied over to my hangar and was taking care of some post-flight tasks while letting the airplane sit idling at around 800rpm. I happened to glance at the engine monitor and noticed that the EGT reading for cylinder 4 was significantly lower than the other three cylinders (1080, 1080, 985 and 750 degrees respectively). I hadn't noticed any abnormal differences in the EGT during flight, and I don't recall ever having seen such a large difference while idling on the ground. I ran the engine up to 2,200rpm to do a mag check. The EGTs were all within around 50 degrees between cylinders at that power setting, and the mag check showed the same consistent drop between left and right that I've always seen, and a consistent rise in EGTs across cylinders. This suggests to me that the ignition side of things is working fine. After the mag check, I let it idle at around 1000rpm. I could hear a brief stutter / change in the engine sound, every 5-10 seconds, that appeared to correspond to a 10-20ยบ drop in EGT before they climbed up to their previous values. I've not looked closely at the EGT at idle before so I'm not sure if the fluctuation is normal, but I've definitely not heard the stutter before. Sadly the engine monitor, a JPI EDM 830, appears to be on a firmware version that is unable to download data to a USB drive. JPI has said that updating the firmware requires removing the unit and sending it in to them, so I've been putting it off. Unfortunately that means the only data I have is a couple of shaky videos of the engine monitor captured on my iPhone and my average memory. I'll be giving LASAR a call in the morning to see if they can take a look at it. Until then I'd be curious to hear any theories as to what could be the culprit.
  4. One of the recent software updates for GTN units caused them to occasionally flicker to a black screen then back to the menu. The service bulletin for the software release containing the fix mentions it was related to handling of weather data received via ADS-B.
  5. I'm at just over 200 hours for the year. Around 115 of those were in my old Cessna 172F, with the remaining 85 hours in my M20J that I upgraded to towards the end of August.
  6. Yes, it appears to be visible even when not logged in.
  7. The "About Me" tab appears to only show up on a user's profile if they've filled it in. I can see yours just fine. You should be able to see mine too (admittedly not very interesting).
  8. You could always call the NorCal TRACON phone number listed on the TFR and ask about it.
  9. They've had similarly-shaped TFRs between 0O4 and the northwest corner of the Camp Fire TFR during the last week, and I see upcoming TFRs for the next three days. The title of the TFRs mentions ARNG, which suggests the Army National Guard may be operating aircraft in support of the firefighting efforts out of Corning. The timing and altitude of the TFRs is a bit weird though, 8pm to 5am from 10,000 to 13,000ft. Perhaps they're assisting with IR mapping of the fire area?
  10. You don't mention what model JPI engine monitor you have, but the manual for the EDM 830 says in Section 8 Programming Manifold Pressure (MAP) to set the MAP to the airport's current altimeter setting when you're doing the adjustment at a sea level airport. If you're not at sea level, they provide a table in which you look up the value to use based on airport altimeter setting and field elevation.
  11. It took over an hour to upload that three minute video clip on my awful home internet connection, so I figured I'd limit it to the bits that leave a good impression
  12. My GoPro Hero 7 arrived this week, so I took it for a test run on my flight back to Lakeport this evening. I was very impressed with the built-in stabilization. Here's a clip of my transition through Oakland's class C airspace.
  13. A great view while on my way down to Palo Alto start my work week. Looking towards downtown San Francisco from the coastline Bravo transition at 3,500ft.
  14. Same result on my iPad Pro 9.7โ€ and iPhone XS Max.
  15. ForeFlight 10.4.1, running on iOS 12.0.1. When zooming the map view out I'm seeing flight category dots on airports all across North America, including the US, Canada and Mexico.
  16. I'm still seeing the flight category dots on most airports with METARs on the map in ForeFlight. It certainly isn't limited to those near my route.
  17. Please add me, too.
  18. @bonal Yup, I bought N335BB from @Bennett at the end of July. It was sitting in LASAR's hangar for the duration of the fires, and it wasn't until the end of August that I was finally able to take her up. I've been averaging around an hour of flight time a day since then, and am enjoying the heck out of that aircraft. Bennett did a wonderful job on the upgrades and equipment selection.
  19. It looks like you may have two accounts, and have signed into the wrong one? https://mooneyspace.com/profile/14492-donmuncy/ is the account you just posted from, while https://mooneyspace.com/profile/6879-donmuncy/ looks to be the account you typically use.
  20. There's an earlier thread discussing iPad mounting options here:

  22. As of around noon today, Lampson is back open. The TFR was lifted around 8am, and the NOTAM disappeared a few hours later. All of the helicopters and support crew that filled the taxiways yesterday afternoon had cleared out today.
  23. As of a few minutes ago a new TFR was issued that ends a few miles north of Lampson. The previous TFR is still in place for now, and the airport NOTAMd closed, but the new TFR suggests those may be rescinded this weekend.
  24. I stopped by LASAR this afternoon to retrieve my new-to-me M20J, N335BB, and move it to my hangar. Things are quieter at Lampson this week than last, but there's still eight or ten helicopters working the fire from there. At this point LASAR is optimistic that the airport will be open early next week. Here's hoping.
  25. I looked at N201KB a couple of months ago, and ultimately ended up passing on it. It's a nice looking aircraft, and is well equipped. A few things that reviewing the log books revealed: The aircraft has flown relatively little in the past 6 or so years (~45 hours, of which only ~15 are in the last 4.5 years). The existing W&B data seems to be incorrect. It lists an empty CG location of ~12 inches aft of the datum. Since the allowable range is 41-50 inches, it'd be virtually impossible for the aircraft to ever be within CG limits. I suspect this will require re-weighing to correct, which may result in the available useful load changing a non-trivial amount. There doesn't appear to be a log book entry for the installation of the GTN 750 and related equipment. There's a work order and 337, but nothing in the airframe log.
