  1. There's TAS and then there's IAS. No, not Indicated Air Speed, I'm talking about Internet Air Speed.
  2. You can put in your airport, and set the mileage limit to 100 (or whatever) and see a list of all the known restaurants within that radius. You have to imagine the map.
  3. I'm borrowing that idea! I have been looking for a plug of some kind, but this looks even better.
  4. While it's not a substitute for a capacity check, measuring the OCV (Open Circuit Voltage) is a pretty good proxy for battery condition. If the OCV goes down day by day or week by week then there is probably a small load on the battery with the master off. If the battery is good and it won't start, then something downstream is at fault: ground or other connection, solenoid, starter, etc.
  5. That was fun to read about. I especially like the flight path skywriting.
  6. Seems like it was green. The 80 octane stuff was red I think.
  7. Sounds like something I saw on FlightAware recently flying around the border between California and Mexico at 65,000 feet. Just checked it's over AZ at 60,900 and cooking along at 13 knots.
  8. I have learned both from what I read on this forum and from personal experience that it has more to do with the name of the person working on your airplane than it does the name of the business.
  9. Use Tax Use tax is due on the use or consumption of taxable goods or services when sales tax was not paid at the time of purchase. For example: - If you buy a taxable item in Florida and did not pay sales tax, you owe use tax. - If you buy an item tax exempt intending to resell it, and then use the item in your business or for personal use, you owe use tax. - If you buy a taxable item outside Florida and bring it into (or have it delivered into) Florida, and you did not pay sales tax on the item, you owe use tax. This was from the first hit when searching for "florida use tax" https://floridarevenue.com/taxes/taxesfees/pages/sales_tax.aspx
  10. As Tennessee Ernie Ford sang (with his basso profundo voice), "One fist of iron, the other of steel, If the right one don't get you, then the left one will." If you don't pay sales tax, you will almost certainly pay use tax. Talk to a professional.
  11. Also, the rudder pedals can be fitted with 1.5- or 3.0-inch extensions. It's a bit of work, but handy for fine-tuning your seating position.
  12. And BTW, welcome to MooneySpace!
  13. Sounds like you had a bad experience. I have seen a number of positive reviews both here and on BeechTalk.
  14. I recently saw a split spark plug nut "repaired" with JB Weld. Right up there with using parts from the aviation aisle at ACE Hardware.
  15. Well, maybe my metabolism is different but, this time of year, I start the day at 80 and, depending on activity, work my way down to 79 or 78.
  16. I used to poo-poo (is that even a word?) the "dry heat" thing until I made several trips to Phoenix a few years ago. Sitting outdoors in the shade in 80 degrees was a little chilly.
  17. Those people are either very young, or they use sweaters and blankets year-round.
  18. But it's a dry heat.
  19. I use Wi-Fi 90% at home, but when I'm out, I have a SIM card from Ting so I pay a low, fixed amount each month, and then just for the data I use. This also allows me to use my iPad like a phone via VOIP.
  20. That's what I think too.
  21. I know that you can't get your money back, but 70k down to 10k seems like a lot of overnight depreciation.
  22. Must be at or near a record.
  23. Who put it in?
  24. Not seeing info on what Mooney models/years/serial numbers?
