  1. Yesterday I was sandwiched between Luke AFB on one side of me and Sky Harbor (class bravo) on the other side and above. I was transitioning Glendale (class D) below me. Just as I was thinking how well I was doing I received the attached messages on my GNS530W. It was a little disconcerting for a semi-rookie like me. I am hoping someone can give me some suggestions on diagnosing what is causing these messages. I recently had the following work done. 1. GNS530 sent in to Garmin for a WAAS upgrade. 2. New PS Engineering PMA8000BT audio installed. 3. New Garmin GTX345 installed. My local avionics guy thinks it might be the coax that runs to the antennas. Garmin wants me to have my mechanic call them. This problem has existed since the above work was done. Any help or suggestions would be appreciated.
  2. I have one of these small cockpit organizers on backorder from SportysSporty's. I also made an iPhone holder out of aluminum that stays put quite well with a little suction cup. (Purple was the only powder coat color I had).
  3. That is some serious hairpray you must have been using.
  4. Thanks for the tutorial. Good job. I ordered a roll of reflective type bubble rap off of Amazon a few weeks ago but was dreading trying to figure out how to measure the window shapes. You made it look easy so I went out the next day and made my window shades. I've been concerned about a canopy cover scratching the paint if grit got under it on a breezy day. Every little bit helps in AZ. I used a couple of strips of Velcro stuck just above the window in each corner. Thanks misfitself.
  5. M20C I had a similar problem last week. On runup one of the mags dropped about 250 rpm. The mechanic said the spark plug on the bottom #1 cylinder was bridged. We talked about it being lead. He said the obstruction fell right out when he put the spark plug on his work bench. He said lead was harder to clean out. So, this is just another variable for you to consider.
  6. It does flex just a little, not bad though. I think a slightly larger diameter rod (5/16") would be a better choice than 1/4" rod, I had no problem working the trim wheel. It took a little adjusting finding the right height however. When it was too high it felt awkward using the throttle-prop-mixture controls. When it's too low it's harder to see the detail on the iPad mini screen.
  7. I have not been able to use the claw style clamp on the yoke because it runs into the knob on the heading Indicator. I even Ground the claw down so it was more narrow and in the full aft position on the yoke. I came up with another solution that works for me. I hope someone else may benefit from this or a variation of this if you are having the same problem. I used 3/4" square tubing on the seat rail. I made a lengthwise cut so it would slide onto the seat rail. I used 1/4" round rod and threaded the end (1/4-20 threads) to accept the Mygoflight flexible arm. I tapped two holes on the square tubing so I could use 2 - 1" bolts to snug the mount to the seat rail. I used a strip of aluminum as a shim so the bolts would not mar the rail.
  8. I just upgraded my transponder. I have a Stratus 2S for sale. It picks up all the traffic my new Garmin GTX 345 picks up, and sometimes finds the traffic sooner. I don't need both. It comes with the the window suction holder, nice carrying case, and wall charger. The internal cooling fan works great. On several occasions my iPad has overheated (Arizona based) in the shade while the Stratus just kicked on it's cooling fan in the direct sun. It has not let me down yet. I will sell it for $400.00.
  9. I just upgraded my panel. I have a GTX 327 that works great. I will sell it for $225 shipped.

  11. Hi Cruiser,

I noticed you posted a problem you were having with intermittent radio noise back in April 2015. You mentioned that you were getting an annual done soon. Did you get your radio noise problem resolved? What was the cause?  Your problem sounds very similar to mine. My radio noise usually pops up just as I enter the pattern. I just had my GNS 530 pulled and sent in for a WAAS upgrade. The transponder was replaced with a new GTX 345. The audio panel was also replaced with a new PMA8000BT. Still the problem persists. Any help would be appreciated.

I am putting a complete new panel in now. I will let you know if the problem goes away but I always suspected it was something in the mags causing the noise.

Thanks for getting back to me. This is a frustrating annoyance . Enjoy your new panel.

  12. I try to follow the Operators Manual on my 74 M20C. It seems to work like a charm.
  13. Very Nice. Be safe.
  14. Beautiful plane. Congrats.
  15. Good luck on your Mooney search. Earlier this year I purchased an M20C. I love that plane. We live in the Phoenix area. Mesa (KFFZ) to be more precise. We too want to visit family, which are spread all over the country. In April I flew it from Alabama to Mesa. Because of bad weather in Texas we (2 average size adults) needed to fly north over some of the Rockies. Even without a turbo charger we were able to get to 13500 ft without a problem. With a turbo charger I'm confident you could fly anywhere in Colorado or Utah. I figured that will take care of most of Arizona altitude requirements and a lot of the high country out west. I would be glad to show you my Mooney any time. It is however, currently in the shop getting some avionics work done. Because it is fire fighting season the people at the shop have to divide their time between my plane and keeping their King Airs working the fires. It should be out of the shop in a couple of weeks. In my opinion you won't ever be sorry you bought a Mooney. Great on gas a great looking airplane.
  16. Great idea! I would like to be on the list and have a link as well. Thanks.
  17. If you can't see any cord, you are good, in my non professional opinion.
  18. Thanks for sharing that experience. It helps remind me not to forget what a privilege being able to fly is. When we can share the experience of flying we need to do it. I love the smiles on the faces. You brightened the day for those kids.
  19. That looks just like a Pack Rat or Wood Rat's nest to me.
  20. They are comfortable and cool. We used to use them in our John Deer tractors on the farm in Kansas. I don't want them in my Mooney however.
  21. I would love a new two door Mooney. I would love a new Bonanza. I would love a P-51 Mustang, or a Corsair. I have an M20C. I'm happy because I can afford to fly. To fly an M20C is icing on the cake for me. Heck, it's too much money for my budget. As long as I get to fly. If my budget shrinks I will fly a 152 and be happy. I hope Mooney has great success selling those $700,000 plus airplanes. I hope there is a market out there so they have a long prosperous life. I would not want to own an airplane that cost more than my house. Just don't sound right.
  22. Thanks. That may be most practical solution I've heard yet.
  23. A week ago I flew from Alabama (KGAD) to Arizona (KFFZ) VFR. 1400+ nm. I am still a rookie pilot. About 250 hours. It was supposed to be IFR but the Heading Indicator didn't work. My friend (and also my CFII) and I decided to make the trip anyway, VFR. I have to say it was a blast! I don't have my IFR but I used my "foggles" a lot. I am going to get my IFR. I am sure I would be a better pilot. The trip was a huge confidence builder for me. We had to deviate north to Wichita because of bad weather in Texas. I'm sure we would have saved a lot of time if we could have flown IFR. It's like someone said in a previous post here. A cross country is just a series of short flights. Watch out for that weather. Enjoy flying everywhere. I plan to.
  24. I have a 1974 M20C Ranger. The Annunciator Light display covers are faded, from being 43 years old I guess. I am wondering if anyone knows the part numbers for these items. Can you even get replacements? The red Gear Warning, Green Gear, Overvoltage, Hi Vac, Lo Vac are all in bad shape. Any suggestions on where to go for answers would be appreciated. Thanks, Steve
  25. Meet "Mike". I brought him from Alabama yesterday to Arizona this afternoon. What a blast. I just wish this passion was not soo expensive. I'm trying to find a balance, but it's hard.
