  1. From what I’ve seen MANY Mooney’s get sold locally before being advertised. Word of mouth seems to work better selling Mooney’s than many other saleable items for some reason. I expect that if I decided to sell mine I would have several local prospects pop Up immediately after putting the news into the local grapevine.
  2. Thanks! As I recall it requires at least one G5 also.
  3. Yes, if you want to build time inexpensively do it in a fuel sipping, slow plane. Time is built by the hour, not by the mile. I built my time in a Cessna 140 at 5.5 GPH.
  4. If by some wild miracle it were to get past the FAA, how much would a full blown GFC 500 cost installed in an F?
  5. Now we get to wait a few years for this one like we are with the Trutrak. I would strongly suggest that you make no plans or purchase decisions based on this. Trutrak has claimed to be in the certification process for two years.
  6. Every time I check this thread to see if the Trutrak has been approved I show how much of a chump I am for thinking that it will EVER be approved.
  7. Hon the off chance that Dynon is approved by the FAA during my lifetime, how much will the Dynon cost installed?
  8. Don’t hold your breath. Garmin is not known for open interface with non Garmin products.
  9. Well after swinging the gear and testing the emergency extension this week, I took off this morning and the gear wouldn’t retract. I got some altitude and checked the circuit breaker and it was open. I set it and the gear retracted normally. I flew awhile and it it extended normally on approach. I sure thought that I had reset the circuit breaker after my testing on jacks but maybe not. I also thought that I checked the CB when I did the run up. I’m still not at a really high level of confidence, I sure do miss my Johnson Bar C.
  10. I got a new led display for a Narco a few years ago for very reasonable money. Do some googling.
  11. Don’t worry. After spending your funds on your interior you will have LOTS of time to save money for the TruTrak before it is released, that is if it is ever released. I just turned 71. Even though I am in great health and may still be passing a medical for another 20 years, I expect to lose my medical before ever having the opportunity to install a Trutrak in my Mooney. It’s been almost two years since the Trutrak guy sat at his table at a trade show telling me it would be available next month.
  12. I go from the Mooney to my taildragger, to my son in laws 172. Going back and forth worries me. Afraid I going to lose the gear habit.
  13. Yes, I had a wonderful Johnson Bar Mooney until I fell and injured my shoulder. I really miss it, but it was an electric gear or fixed gear or quit flying so I found my current plane. I finally got it on jacks and swung the gear both electrically and manually. It’s wonderful peace of mind so I just need to put some time on it. Thanks everyone!
  14. I took your suggestion and it works well. I reinforced a Harbor a Freight furniture dolly with a 2x10 underneath and 1 x 4’s I had on hand across the top with an eye bolt up the center. Stacked 15 2 x 12 x 12 concrete blocks. Worked great and when the time comes to move it, a crane won’t be necessary. Thanks!
  15. Yes, the required weight is what I need. I can calculate everything else. I thought there had been so many of these things made that people would off the top of their heads know how many bags and which size washtub. Thanks to all.
  16. Thanks for your responses. I know exactly how to make it. What I need is the wash tub size and how many bags to get. There are many sizes available. I want it to be heavy enough for an F, but not too heavy. My hangar is large and I won’t be swinging the gear of a Citation in the foreseeable future so I don’t want too much weight to move around.
  17. I am going to make a tailbob on a flat dolly for my F. What size washtub and how many sackcrete bags?
  18. I have a ‘67 F built in Dec. ‘66. I think it was originally a Johnson Bar, but now has electric. Hurt my shoulder and had to get an electric gear plane. I have had some gear problems, but them sorted out and was very pleased. I went up the other day and the gear would not come up. Circuit Breaker was tripped. It wold not reset. I found the emergency gear actuation lever forward. When I pulled it back, the gear worked normally. The gear extended normally and got on the ground safely. When the red button at the bottom of the emergency lever travel is depressed should that result in circuit breaker tripping. Everything seemed fine as I left it, but I am thinking maybe I should jack it and make sure the emergency system will extend properly before flying again. Am I being too over cautious?
  19. I landed my C with no flaps and it behaved extremely well. Coming from a Cessna 140 I carried over my “I don’t need no stinking flaps” mentality. When I got the F I learned very quickly that when it comes flaps and landing it might as well be made by a different manufacturer. I don’t even think about landing it with no flaps now. It lands full flaps and most all of the nose up trim.
  20. My trim wheel is so touchy It’s almost impossible to get it trimmed with any precision at all. Anyone else experience this?
  21. Okay I finally remembered to look at my 67 that was built in Dec 66. It doesn’t have any sheet metal trim at all. Just an opening from which the step extends. I apologize for the delay in looking at it and sorry it’s not useful.
  22. Sorry I didn’t make it to the hangar today. Maybe tomorrow. We haven’t had flying weather in a while.
  23. I expect to be at the hangar today and will look at my ‘67. I’ll try to remember to take a picture if needed.
  24. I hesitate to post my reply for fear of encouraging someone to do something that might be illegal or unsafe for them, but I’ll worry about the flame suit later, here goes: I don’t have much time in my Mooney, probably a hundred hours or so if I looked it up. I’ve been a Motörhead since a small child growing up in my dads auto repair shop, so maybe I have a better feel for engines than most. I also am capable of reliably doing most anything to a vehicle and in the case of an airplane, get it signed off. With that preface if I can not speak to the OP’s comfort level when it comes to maintenance and repair operations. I would find a way to repair it myself or find someone who could. Failing that, I believe I have enough time and feel my IO360 that I could safely make that flight. During the run up, I would lean it enough for the mag check to be able to feel that each mag is working. Richen it for all other aspects of the run up. After climb out. I would know about how many turns for roughly 2,500 and still have an MP gauge for the desired setting. I would probably govern it on the low side of 2500. Now! It’s easy for me to sit back comfortably in my chair and write such things without actually being in that situation. It all depends on the particular circumstances, but if it were legal, I believe I could safely make a short ferry flight as I described.
