  1. Feel like this needs to be worked into the groomsman speech somehow... Glad you kept the dirty side down and are safe on deck. Look forward to your followup.
  2. What kind of sprayer/paint/psi? What if I wanted to strip a belly panel and start from scratch? what about quarter size chip - still spray? total noob here
  3. Sounds like a comprehensive answer would make a great article for the Mooney flyer (publication)
  4. You take the difference between the two, then add that number to Vy to get Vcc. According to Orionflt's numbers Vy 105 - Vx 80 = 25. Take Vy and add 25 to it and you get a Vcc of 130mph https://www.flyingmag.com/technique/tip-week/calculating-cruise-climb-speed
  5. Using this for every IRAD project from here on out.
  6. Found it. It was a Lycoming Service Letter. Refers more to aircraft that are not actively flying - not really OPs situation. "The cylinder walls, piston, rings, cam and cam follower only receive splash and vapor lubrication. When the prop is pulled through by hand, the rings wipe oil from cylinder walls. The cam load created by the valve train wipes oil off the cam and followers. After two or three times of pulling the engine through by hand without engine starts, the cylinders, cam and followers are left without a proper oil film. Starting engines without proper lubrication can cause scuffing and scoring of parts resulting in excessive wear." https://www.lycoming.com/sites/default/files/Engine Preservation for Active and Stored Aircraft.pdf
  7. Interesting. I always heard that it removes the film of oil on the cylinders and cam followers and that it can cause excessive wear when starting. Could of swore I read that in a Lycoming SB once upon a time. I'm no expert though.
  8. Why do you rotate the prop through before flight?
  9. Can you share what you ordered for the panel lights?
  10. I have no CAD skills, but work with a bunch of folks that do if help was needed. Would be nice to get the $45 dollar-ish version from plane plastics, but I have no idea how they would copy my beat to heck / broken plastics.
  11. Who is the resident 3D printing expert round these parts? Would be interested in helping pull some resources together to get CAD files made and try our hand at this.
  12. Called them 2 weeks ago for the exact same parts and they said they don't have either. If you hear something different please update this post with results.
  13. M20F driver here - just completed first year of ownership. The comments above are 100% spot on. Plenty of work left over to tinker and customize on an airplane that is airworthy and turnkey. Buy affordable turnkey now - finish your PPL in it and then enjoy the classic upgrades - installing a new panel, new airtex seats and carpet, Bruce Jaeger interior, J style windscreen, one piece rear window, the infamous pee-tube, heck - even fixing the plastic panel cracks are enough to keep a man busy for the foreseeable future. If you get bored with it, try your hand at making a new glareshield like the one fellow on here. These things are great things to tinker with at the hanger and have your A&P signoff where required. The more time you can spend in the airplane instead of under it the better. You will enjoy it more, complete your training faster, and be an all around better pilot. If maintenance is your passion, then by all means buy a fixer-upper. If you stare at the sky every time you hear an airplane fly by, then you need to buy something that enables you to join them. Been very happy with my M20F - wouldnt trade it for the world.
  14. "run the trim nose up during the flare".... The CFI in me heard fingernails scraping against a blackboard when he said that.
  15. What happens when your on screw number 476 on the belly panel and that sucker falls off. Now I gotta go back 20 screws to get access back in there.
  16. What about tinnermans? Are there a handful of sizes commonly used? I have noticed when removing sections of my belly, some tinnerman nuts snap on perfectly and completely, others are too long and have been installed in a diagonal fashion to keep them in place (if that makes sense). The are prone to movement when reinstalling the panels.
  17. I was able to get the kit parts list to figure out what hardware and qtys are in the F kit. Adding up the prices of the hardware individually comes out to $89 bucks, while the hardware kit comes to $94 (for the F model). Dont think thats a bad deal to get a little hardware kit established in your hanger.
  18. Where did you get your push button seat belts? I am tired of unlatching my lap belt every time I try to re-trim the airplane.
  19. Never seen the specialty catalog. This is incredibly helpful!
  20. hmm, could be my work. Ill try again when I get home. Thanks
  21. Are you able to access the website right now? I am getting an error message.
  22. As someone who knows nothing about screws, but enjoys crawling under the oily belly to swap a stripped screw just as much as the next guy, is there a standard way to decipher these? AN- aviation designation? 526? 832 is 8-32 thread size? R6/R8? I.E- whats the difference between these two screws AN507-832-R6/R8 wing inspection panels AN526-832R6/R8 wing inspection panels
  23. Congrats!! Absence makes the heart grow fonder.
