  1. @mike_elliott Was this discovered during a pump overhaul, or did you take the pump apart looking for an issue? After the new pump is your fuel pressure completely solid, or does it wander any?
  2. Interesting @Bob_Belville. So in your case the fire sleeve helped reduce the issue, but did not eliminate it? I just want to make sure this is not indicative of an early fuel pump failure other other issue that I need to track down. You believe this is just bubble ingestion?
  3. I figured out where my video went. The video timestamp indicated December 31, 1969, which from what I've read is indicative of a dead timekeeping battery on the logic board. The video was placed in the very beginning of my photos history instead of at the end. Anyway, here is the video of the (poorly) described scenario above. Sorry for the fancy camera work, my ipad was on the yoke and I was trying to navigate around it. https://photos.app.goo.gl/BpoDSmdb7z9JjNlJ3
  4. On the way back from vacation last week I noticed my fuel pressure gauge fluctuating. Like a good MSer, I took out my phone and took a video of the fluctuations with the intent of posting it on a thread asking the group for their input. Unfortunately, somehow between uploading them off my phone to google photos and clicking the "free up space", the clips have been lost to the dark web (sigh). Anyway, perhaps a good description will produce the same effect. Cruising at 9k, I noticed my fuel pressure gauge fluctuating between 18 and 25. The fluctuations were very rhythmic, in that the pressure would hit 25 and stay there for about 5 seconds before dropping to 18 and then slowly working itself back up to 25. In total this rhythm takes place over around 20 seconds and then starts over (working up to 25, dropping to 18/19 or 20, slowly climbing back to 25, holding for a few seconds, dropping again.) Hitting the boost pump resulted in a pressure increase to a rock solid 26/27. Turning off the fuel pressure dropped slightly back to 25, but the pressure would stay solid for several minutes thereafter until repeating the cycle described above. I did notice that while running LOP, my EGT would lose/gain a red bar (insight GEM 602) in what would appear to be correlations with the pressure fluctuations. The aircraft is fairly new to me, but I dont recall normally seeing any EGT movement once stabilized in cruise and LOP. Soon thereafter I was asked to descent to 7k in the DC area. I dont recall noticing it happening at 7k, but that doesn't mean it wasn't. Probably noteworthy that most of my flying is in 6-7k range <2hr hops, and that may be why I haven't noticed the fluctuations, assuming they do indeed only happen above 7k. More observations over the next couple flights will help narrow this down. Has anyone else experienced anything similar? All fluctuations are within the green arc, but I dont imagine that makes it ok? Any input is appreciated.
  5. @St64 Did you fix yours yourself? Debating if I should have the shop do it since its now super hot and muggy in my hanger. Dont really want to throw away the cash, but even with the instructions @Mike Ropers linked, I am not sure if I have the skills to get it done.
  6. Thanks Mike. Did you happen to take any photos during the repair (back in 2011 ;)...?
  7. Interesting that you commented about a loud thud. As soon as I started my descent I heard a loud bang that actually made me flinch. Kind of like when you get a rock to the windshield going down the highway.
  8. Just landed back home from my beach trip to find the overhead exterior vent broken and laying in the aft position. Anyone had a similar failure? Is this an easy fix? Something tells me no..

  10. Would be nice to see some pics during the removal/install when you get around to it @RustyNance
  11. Mine came with a 60 day subscription. Worth mentioning that the ifd 100 app won't work with the unit correctly until both the app and the 440 are on the same set of maps ( can't update one without the other)
  12. This had experimental labeled on the side. Also was tattoed with service members names all over the the exterrior
  13. Dang. That was too easy. First time ever seeing one of those. Thanks!
  14. Seen on the Myrtle Beach ramp last night. Anyone have an idea what it is? The design may suggest some type of sea search and rescue, but that's not typically an army mission (I think?).
  15. Do you recall how much the rental was per day/week? That would be easier than buying a set and bringing a mallet.
  16. Those look pretty beefy. I did notice that on the EAA website they recommend not using screw type anchors.
  17. Starting to source my gear for Oshkosh, borrowing from friends and family the things ill probably only use once, and buying the things I can see myself using again in the future. Wanted to see what other guys were using for aircraft tie-down anchors. I have never used a set of removable anchors before and have read a few horror stories online from those who have chosen poorly. Did a cursory search on MS before position and couldn't find any threads. If I missed an existing one, please feel free to link me to it. Anyone swear by one brand over the other? Have experience (positive or negative) specific to any brand? While were at it, any "you'll wish you would have brought this with you" items you can recommend to a first time attendee? I will be attending the Caravan clinic in Danville and flying the Caravan up to Oshkosh and camping while there. Thanks,
  18. For what its worth, I recently started loading (cacheing) satellite imagery in Foreflight on my night XCs to better my odds of finding a field to put her down in the event of an engine failure outside of glide range to a runway. The only downside is that if your route changes too much from your planned route then you wont have cached that imagery.
  19. Do you have a good "land and eat" location that you frequent there? Would make a nice weekend flight for the wife and I.
  20. Never knew that there was an official word for the remains left over after a bird strike with an airplane. Need to add that to the ole logbook for the time I hit that bird in the schweizer 300 snarge. The residue smeared on an airplane after a bird/plane collision.
  21. Very excited to see ur finished product. Having the same issue.
  22. Did you pull the suction screen as well? I have been wanting to pull mine during an oil change to have a look mostly out of curiosity, but I know I would never be able to get that thing safety wired again. Believe the manual specified doing so at 100hr or annual.
  23. @GEE-BEE I declare interest!!

  25. Purchased my M20F this year with an 80k hull value. I am a CFI in Rotary Wing and Fixed wing with probably around 1200 hours. 0 hours in Mooney at purchase. My experience may differ from others, but I could never get Falcon to respond to calls in a timely manner. I found an insurance broker who is a joy to work with and always super responsive day or night. My insurance is through QBE and my yearly cost is $1400 - but I only deal with my broker when I need something.
