  1. This whole work thing keeps getting in the way of a proper visit. As soon as I get some free time I will hit you guys up for a trip through.
  2. I flew over New Garden this morning on a nice IFR flight down to Easton, MD and was wondering if there is a plan for IFR approaches into the field when Modena VOR shuts down? I can't find any updates on the FAA website and thought someone here would know.
  3. I'd second Old Bridge if you are visiting Red Bank...at least that's where I would go if I'm paying for it. I'm in and out of BLM for work quite a bit and they nickle and dime every little fee they can against me. Not to mention the taxiways at BLM are notorious for dinging up props. Old Bridge has that small town airport feel despite its location. At least that's how it feels to me after spending a day in and out of the city. Mr Drake is spot on about the drag strip. It's usually full of people memorial weekend so it would be hard to mess up but I've seen folks accidentally line up on it over the years (haven't seen an actual landing there yet). Have a great trip wherever you end up!!
  4. Even more impressive in person. A real showpiece. I see my newly painted doors in the background
  5. Add the engine monitor if you want to keep it. We figured we could add one just the same. Didn't see one listed or in the pics. WAAS question was more for the 2020 mandate is all. No issues there either. Looks like a fine airplane. The fact it wasn't there when we flew in to CDW was a good sign to me that it's taken care of by being flown. Subtle touches on your maintenance sheet above are not lost on folks that know a good machine when they see one.
  6. We were literally just at CDW for work yesterday and we went looking for your plane on the ramp. Found nothing but an empty parking space There was a nice 205 with TKS and fresh paint just down the row from you (N..36B). I have a feeling your C is in better shape. WAAS or engine monitor by chance? Jeff
  7. I assume a coding challenge has something to do with being able to view the advisory data. My full time ride (S-76 helicopter) has the full garmin setup to include gmx20 with xm connected to a universal FMS, onboard WX radar, TCAS, etc and everything displays on the garmin screens. No interaction with the iPad yet though. The Agusta 109 I fly part time has the IFD540. It had the G530 prior to that. Ver 10.2.0.0 is current per my avionics tech but he said it only came out a couple of weeks ago. Connectivity with the iPad was working for me before that. He said the technical term is setting up an access point. The aircraft is on its way to FL right now for the spring/summer. I'll see if my partner can't take some pictures of the setup screen. I was incorrect when I was calling the stratus a router vice an "access point." He sent me this from the manual: The WiFi system can be configured to work in "Local" mode where the IFD acts as a "server" or access point, or, "Remote" mode where the IFD acts as a "client" and can attach to a separate remote access point which allows the IFD to join other existing WiFi networks (e.g. connect to an existing Stratus- ForeFlight network).
  8. Can only see the stratus traffic and weather info on your iPad. No stratus ADSB info on the IFD. The stratus acts as the middleman (router) allowing you to connect to both at the same time. You can edit your flight plan in either location, fore flight or IFD, and it will show up. I use it to "rubber band" routes on the iPad right up against airspace boundaries and it helps keep me clear when I'm vfr. I haven't seen the skytrax in action yet but it sounds like a cleaner set up. I think I would miss the AHRS feature of the stratus as my 'everything's gone to heck' back up though. Stratus compatibility would be a nice software update for the IFD.
  9. Linked worked perfect. Lots of good data points. What is your normal GAMI spread? Fuel flow looks good across the checks. Seems more of an airflow/cooling for the temp differences at your cylinders. Interested in what Savvy had to say for this flight. I'm a turbine guy and am still learning recip with these new data tools. Thanks for posting.
  10. Connect the IFD to the stratus. Connect your iPad/s to the stratus. Stratus acts as a wifi router for sending and receiving.
  11. Sorry. Posted at same time. What he said.
  12. IRAN if they say it's an option.
  13. What was your experience using Savvy?
  14. Within eyesight/earshot of each other. Would you believe that? I know you think most controllers like to hold hands and sing kumbaya but you're right, they are not literally next to each other like you are picturing.
  15. Approach and Tower sit next to each other in the cab at RDG. If you listen closely you can sometimes here them BS'ing in the back ground right after they hand you off. Better yet, I went to visit and saw it first hand. They have their own one station TRACON. Right, wrong, indifferent? That's just the way it is. First world problems I guess.
  16. They justify Reading approach because of the number of practice IFR operations they receive from the training units at Ft Indiantown Gap as well as, to a small extent, the transient aircraft going between ABE and MDT appch. A typical training period from the Gap will have 5-10 helicopters flying what we call the Iron Triangle (CXY, LNS, RDG). With two students each per aircraft doing on average 2-3 approaches at a time, the numbers add up quick for a small airport like RDG. With no overlying airspace (Class C or TRSA) they easily make a case for having their own appch. Job security in a way for them. LNS is covered by harrisburg so they get to stay a 'slow' contract tower.
  17. Here's a layout of the philly airspace. I've had similar routing discussions with the automation and procedures supervisor at Philly TRACON with some pretty good success in my favor. I fly the TK502/504 route due to icing in the winter and they always want to route me on the higher airways. After some negotiating he was able to go into the computer system and change the default routing from MXE to the TK routes when an altitude filing of less than 5000 feet comes in. The reason they bring you through MXE is they are trying to keep you solely in their airspace as you transition through. Normal routing to LDJ from the west would seem to be MRB-PTW-SBJ but doing that puts you into Harrisburg for a bit then philly then reading and back to philly. Due to a letter of agreement between Potomac and philly, MXE is the agreed upon handoff fix to alleviate working you through the other sectors. Don't get me started about the interaction between Maguire and New York approach. Jeff
  18. We just replaced the rotating beacon in my buddies bonanza with this Whelen LED. His old mechanical one was interfering with an aft mounted autopilot computer. Super bright. From the website: 90520 series LED beacons are FAA TSO compliant self-contained LED anti-collision lights (Ref. Class III 100 effective candlepower). They are designed to replace strobe lightheads as small as the A470A with available models to replace HR self-contained beacons (HRCFA) or our legacy 70900 LED beacon. Mounting plate included with assembly.
  19. I looked really hard at this one since it used to live here in town and was maintained at Weber. Claremont is right down the road from me. Let me know if you need any help getting things set up on this end before you get back. Jeff
  20. Ben runs a good shop. I've seen him ferry guys back and forth with his personal plane.
  21. Where are you having the work done Marauder?
  22. Sheltair gets my vote. Easy in and out and no where near the cost of Atlantic. Better service too IMHO. For customs - call 631-753-2691 at least 48 hours prior to your trip to schedule a time. All customs clearances are done at the main terminal (Bravo and B3 taxiways). If you have passengers they can be met by their ground transportation there and then you taxi over to Sheltair.
  23. Us helicopter guys start to shake when we get above 2000' AGL.
  24. Can't say we're not looking out for you (or at least tying to spend your money ).
  25. Sorry Dan - You beat me to it lol.
