  1. well if I paid myself for labor it would be more like $600. bleeding the left brake was a pain. Im an IT guy. I crash on the couch around 3ish. drag my ass up to bed around 5 and get up around 10.
  2. yea those are the master cylinders... They were leaking. $10 worth of Orings from lasar fixed them.
  3. we installed the lasar orings in both master cylinders. Removed the M/Cs from plane to better get to them and clean them up. pretty easy to take apart and put back together. Once back on plane the right side bled no problem. left side was pumping to the floor no matter what I did. Finally went and made a pressure bleeder for $14 of home depot parts and forced a quart up through the system and out the M/C overflow spout to a glass jar on the ground. Done... Just taxi out of the hangar row I could tell the brakes where MUCH better than they have ever been. Must have barely been getting pressure and probably full of air. Took her for 3 laps around the pattern. Landed long on the first pass and had to use the brakes. They work! Next two passes where perfect. Not used to SNA running backwards. now Im out of immediate projects. Back to trying to figure out why the CDI on my #2 VOR is backwards left to right.
  4. flew into santa paula the other day for the first time. Was doing hood work with my CFI and he really wanted a Fosters burger so we went from CMA over to SZP. Tiny little field tucked in behind a hill. I fast over the numbers and she was floating and floating. all of a sudden it dropped out of nowhere with a solid landing. hit the brakes and got off at the end of runway. After a bunch of WTF happened there my instructor said we were running out of runway so he dumped the flaps. I must say it did kill the float and saved a go around. Im still breaking his balls for not saying anything before doing it though. Got a serious case of monkey butt when it fell out the sky while still nicely above dirty stall speed.
  5. We swapped the hose from sniffle valve to exit fitting no problem. Next we went to change the rubber hose from fuel pump to exit fitting. Theres no way in hell to get a hand or anything else in there to 1. loosen the hose clamp and 2 actually pull it off. So I removed the fitting from the fuel pump nipple. Found a big crack in the metal tube... so Im glad I pulled it off completely. Got a new fitting with a 45 already in it which goes straight to rubber hose. similar to this. One more project down. On to the brake master cylinder rebuild. Got the parts from Lasar yesterday.
  6. fuel divider also called a fuel distributor? Doesnt seem to have a part number. It dripped out maybe a tablespoon total.
  7. 70 is high for an F unless its just absolutely tits. this one isnt. looks like about 55-60k to me. dont get me wrong. looks like a nice plane and Id love decent paint/bladders and a 430w in mine but I only paid 31.5...
  8. 2 questions. Stopped for gas today. after fill up noticed fuel leaking from the drain just forward of the nose gear. Never seen it come from there in the 30 or so hours Ive had it. Popped off the cowl and noticed both rubber hoses going to the metal drain were cracked almost off and there were no hose clamps... Looks like just some standard fuel line which Ill pay 8x as much at spruce for... But checking the manual it looks like its part number 610152-13. Googling that gives me nothing. I cut off a small peice to go match up but wondering if anybody knows the correct size and if its supposed to be something other than bulk fuel line. Second question is what makes it drain fuel from there? I called the prior owner and he mentioned it blows off pressure from there and if you shut off the engine without idleing long enough etc if may do that. Sound reasonable? I did give it a little gas before shutdown because I had to climb a little hill to the fuel pump.
  9. no idea but trust me when I say theres a steel wire held down by sand bags across the runway... the sand bags are spaced roughly mooney width apart...

  11. 250nm is nothing in a mooney. I did 222nm just shooting approaches around socal yesterday. around 3.5 hours and that included a piss break in CMA and a fosters burger in santa paula. 0 complex time with about 100 total time and insurance on my F is 1400/year. 40k hull, 1 million coverage. Flew in a 206 a couple days ago. Man that thing is a truck. Nice having all that weight in the bumps but us cheap bastard mooney pilots cant even fathom 15gph. Mooneys are great for tall skinny people like me. Seats have more leg room than you could ever use as pilot and the way you sit doesnt make my bad knees ache like the upright cessna position. I thought the attached pic was pretty cool as far as speed goes. Not ever sure how that happened. Probably bad math in foreflight but sure looks like a respectable speed i generally average 125kt on my practice approach days according to FF. this was an outlier.

  14. Looks like its both master cylinders leaking.. I ordered 2 o-ring kits from lasar today. They are the Paramount M/C's. Found the fuel pump and tank switcher in there as well!! Always learning something new about the old girl.
  15. you're always looking out for me the hinge screw was missing when I bought it. one more thing to pickup next time im at spruce. The loose one I was half way through fighting it when I started fiddling with the leak. Its all snug now. I swear every screw in this plane is gummed up and cross threaded.

Noticed a couple drips on the floor the other day. and it looked like it was dripping off the back of the pilots side front gear door. wiped it down and for the last week havent seen drops but still some residue on the door. Looked up in there and didnt see anything hydraulic so put it on the back burner. I was buttoning up the bottom panel today after a new transponder antenna and noticed more red fluid in above the piano hinge for the gear door. I wiped it off (pic 1) and then wiggled the door around and saw it seep back out. (pic 2). There is an inspection/access hole just forward of those pics. Stuck my fingers in and it feels like some kind of rubber line is running in the void that the gear door is screwed into. So is there a hose there? Not seeing it in parts manual. are the screws attaching the hinge pointy? Could they have stabbed/rubbed the hose and its now leaking in there or is it more likely the hose is just old and rotten? How do you get to the hose? Looks like I can take off the panel attching the gear door and the one under the cowl flap and then maybe I can see in there? Althought it looks like theres some rivets holding 2 of those panels together.
  17. i was and I thought (was hoping) that was it. Cant remember if I saw it on the trip across the field. It does look nice in my panel and she talks to me. wallet is significantly lighter though . hopefully wife will talk to me as well...
  18. I just got my 345 installed today. I took the plane back from the shop but they had already closed. Looked a little like rain and I wanted her back in the hangar. As I was crossing the airport I got a new voice in my ear telling me traffic at .... which was cool. But I noticed when I got back in the hangar it was displaying NO 1090ES TX. It was showing the squawk code. According to the book that means ADSB isnt transmitting... is that because I was on the ground or did they forget to hook up a wire or does it need to warm up ?
  19. due to the slipperyness Ive been dropping a little below glideslope and pulling the nose up to get gear speed on the glideslope. Its a dance for sure. I concur 140 would be nice.
  20. got the ADF out. Had to pull the annunciator because its lip was overhanging the adf by a millimeter or so keeping it from sliding out. Pulled the antenna bnc off and the harness from the ADF rack. Pulled the harnesses off the back of the CDI. Now the hard part for tommorrow is going to be getting the harness out and the CDI out. Its like a jungle in there. Im going to leave the ADF rack in and make a cardboard glovebox out of it.

  23. Its Western Avionics at SNA. They arent known for being cheap... But they are fairly well liked around here as far as quality. I called the sales guy after I put the new tray in but he was gone for the weekend. Im wondering if he sent the tech out to the wrong plane or something. At this point Im not inclined to think he was going to just add 15 hours to my bill. He knew I was pushing my budget already so it would have been a lost sale if I wasnt hands on type guy. And he was very quick to allow me to do as much owner assist as I wanted. Even letting me take the tray without an actual purchase being made.
  24. I plan on doing that test. I think it has to be done for the $500 rebate anyway. I live in class C so its no big deal. thanks for the ADF info. going to try that today. I was worried I would spin it off or something. although not sure why i care since its going directly to the trash !
  25. I have a KR85 ADF. it has the seperate CDI over on the pilots side with the ADF on the copilot side under the transponder. It has a torx screw on the front. If I turn it I can see what looks like a little latchy thing spinning if I look up under it. (theres a gap in the panel just big enough to see it). however no matter what direction I turn it I can't pull the unit out of the tray. Doesnt even budge. Is there something else besides that torx bit thing on the front that needs to be removed before it will slide out? Can I push it from the back somehow? I dont really care about the knobs but it doesnt seem like I can pull very hard on them and theres not much to grip from the front.
