  1. here it is out of the plane
  2. I dont see enough DIY threads with pictures. I understand thats because most of us arent A&Ps that work on planes. There are a lot of us that do as much owner assist as our IAs will allow. To that end I'm going to try to be more proactive about taking pictures and posting them. I took my flap pump apart due to a small leak. Heres what I found inside: Before yanking it I took a bunch of pics so I know what needs safety wire and what position things are oriented.
  3. oh I know how lucky I am. Pretty much up there with the powerball lottery !!
  4. felt like the vacuum wasnt disengaging even with the thumb button pressed in or removed. so I was always fighting the PC system. Made it very stiff to move the alierons, a lot like driving a tractor or an old farm truck with no power steering. I called Brittian this AM to let them know a package was on the way. They said they had already gotten it, put me on the line with the guy working on it and he said he had already tested, diagnosed and fixed it. shipped back out same day!!. He said pilot valve (the thing hanging under the instrument panel) wasnt releasing all of the vacuum when the button was pressed. I had sent the pilot valve and the thumb disconnect button. He said the button was fine but he went ahead and replaced the orings on it as well.
  5. yep all is inspected by my IA.
  6. cool im not selling so we should be ok. friends still?
  7. just an FYI for mooneyspacers. Talked to Brittian today and they recommend 7/32" windsheild wiper hose for the lines under the dash from turn coordinator to pilot valve etc. I had my pilot valve tested and as I suspected it was holding vacuum and making my plane very John Deere like. asked him about sending me some new lines to replace the aquarium tubing thats there now and he suggested just going to the auto parts store and getting the wiper lines.
  8. those hoses were both squawked at PPI. Replaced them as my first project. Didnt want either of those fluids spraying around!! I will recheck the hydraulic fluid hose.
  9. Anybody know the number of screws in the inspection panels? Dont really want to count all the ones I have out I was going to make an order from spruce for SS ones but I saw they dont have an option for "metric shit ton" under quantity... I was going to guess 150ish? Also I figured Id get all the same length. Will 1/2 inch work for all of them? Mine are anywhere from 1/2" to 1.5". and lastly I know Clarence has mentioned more than once the thread size on these forums but after 15 minutes of googling the site I cant find it.. are they 1/4-28 threads?
  10. perfect thanks. I do seem to recall that tab.
  11. ugh, i actually read that yesterday AFTER I greased them all... (well minus the 2 hidden ones)
  12. Oh I have one Cant be pumping like an idiot with one hand backwards with greasy fingers. Ive been using an airgun for years.
  13. hah yea!! I didnt even get close. My IA had to remove a the little ovals on the leading edge inboard of the tanks himself because I was scared to get anywhere near them gas tanks. Theres a guide block in there that has to be greased though.
  14. so there are 10 total on the nose? I dont mind going on a hunt but if you dont know how many to look for it makes it hard!! I dont have jack stands for the plane yet. its on the ever lengthening list of things I need (want). My IA wanted to open them all up this time since the plane is new to both of us.
  15. another question for the mooniacs. In the SMM it says the nosewheel shock absorber needs to be lubed with triflo? First I dont see a shock on the nose wheel. Just the obvious pucks which I didnt think get lubed... Further it doesnt say to lube the shock absorber on the main gears so they arent talking about the pucks. what shock absorber?
  16. Ahhh.!!!! now its all coming together in my head. This is great. Learning more about the plane every day!
  17. not sure how I missed that in the maint manual. You are right. So it looks like the pump handle, via rods pushes the plunger in the pump. This pumps fluid into the cylinder which moves the flaps. Releasing the release control, connected by the bike cable to the pump, opens the valve and allows the fluid to flow back from the cylinder and then wind pressure plus the springs on the flaps pull them back to the up position. What I dont see on the diagram is an additional bike cable I think I saw going to the cylinder and how it is actuated.
  18. all the inspection panels came off. My IA was persnickity about looking for corrosion. Im scrubbing as I go along. Keep finding more dirt. Pretty sure this thing hasnt gotten a real cleaning since it was painted 20 years ago.
  19. 1. how many flap pumps are there? I thought there was just one but I see a second one as well. One has the adjustment nut/screw to slow the flap retract speed. That one is more forward. Theres a second one that looks like its connected to the flaps more directly towards the back. See pic#1. My "forward" pump is leaking. is that the one that lasar has the rebuild kit for? The one towards the back is barely accessible even with the belly panels off so Im glad it's not leaking!. 2. 67 M20F manual gear. How may zircs on the nose and main gears? I found 9 on the nose and one of those is impossible to get a gun in to (last pic). Im hoping when we swing the gear it will become accessible. I greased 6 (1-6) on the main gears. 3. I pulled one of the zircs out of the main gear. Its the one against the spar aft of the wheel well. Can I just get a new one and bang it in there somehow? Going to be tight trying to work in there. and last but not least.. Man that is a lot of screws. Annual has gone well. IA is making me get the mags inspected because they havent been in 1700 hours and the timing was a little off. He also didnt like my compass mount so I have to use a padded one for vibration resistance. He also found that my ELT has no shock meter so I got another from a mooneyspacer. Other than that no squawks.
  20. mooneyspace comes through again. thanks bluehighwayflyer
  21. didnt see one? edit nevermind. got it
  22. 406 is what I meant. or really whatever reason somebody pulled their old one
  23. My old D&M elt doesnt seem to have a shock thingy in it. Not sure if the pencil whipped annuals before never found it or what but my IA just told me he cant sign this one off. So since I'm over my annual budget I figured I'd check here to see if anybody thats upgraded to a GPS unit has an old one laying around. Im willing to pay up to $100. Ive seen a few on fleabay and barnstormers in the $65-$100 range which Ill go with if I cant give my money to a mooneyspacer.
  24. not yet. i just found the leak after 430PM today. Ill see if the guy out at Cable has one.
  25. ah maybe it was just the master cylinder orings for the brakes somebody had posted previously.
