  1. Heres some pictures. What color was that interior trim originally? Couldnt have been white right?? He called the interior a 4/10 but i dont se any tears or cracks.
  2. Thanks for the offer! It looks like there may be 2 G models in SoCal pretty soon. I went ahead and signed a pre purchase agreement with the guy and if it passes the prebuy inspection Ill be taking her home.
  3. thanks for the offer. glad to see there are a few people that love their Gs!
  4. haha. I didnt want the post to be 9 miles long, but maybe I went overboard on that one. If you have 2 6' plus people in the front what kind of room is there in the back. It looked to me when I sat in a C if I have my seat where I need it for rudder travel theres maybe 2-4inches between the seat back and the back seat. You would have to sidesaddle in the back seat. That would be ok when its me and a buddy and dragging my wife along kicking and screaming. But if my buddy wants to bring his wife as well its going to get weird back there. Theres a C for sale here at KSNA, I think Ill drag my wife out and make her get in the back seat so we can see for sure.
  5. your panel was awesome originally, now its at unobtainium levels for me. I have foreflight though with pretty pictures!!!
  6. no waas on this one but does have enroute gps. all the mooney things have been fixed like tank reseal, new prop and hub and spinner, front gear has been upgraded to the one that has stops. Its not the awesomest one ever but the guy did a lot of work on it including some speed mods. mid time engine. has a wing leveler, actually Ill just post the list of changes/fixes. I see what you are saying on the power, we all want MOR Power. as far as useful load it looks like with full tanks the F has 88 extra pounds of stuff it can carry. A little more if you fill the tanks to only the 52gallons that the G has to make it fair. Thats not enough to sway me. that 20HP will definately help getting out of mountains though no matter what. choices choices. · Replaced position lights with Grimes LED position / Comet flash strobes. · Replaced rotating beacon on belly with strobe. · Replaced right elevator skin and re-trimmed aircraft. · Rebuilt brakes & later replaced caliper · Replaced Hartzell propeller with new Hartzell blended airfoil propeller, controller, and spinner. · Replaced landing gear shock disks. · Replaced nose gear bracket with rebuilt bracket with over travel stops. · Resealed fuel tanks. · Rebuilt fuel sending units in both tanks. · Replaced all tires and tubes. · Rebuilt Britton autopilot system and linked with GPS and VOR / ILS. · Rebuilt Britton PC system. · Replaced King Transponder with Garmin 327 transponder and replaced altitude encoder. · Rebuilt Artificial Horizon. · Installed Sigtronics Stereo Intercom system and jacks. · Replaced ELT with new 121.5 / 406 MHz unit with GPS coordinates. · Replaced generator with alternator (extra belt tied back on engine). · Relocated engine gauges and flight instruments to improve visibility. · Replaced King KX170a with rebuilt King KX170b. · Added vacuum gauge. · Added Air Gizmo dock and Garmin 560 GPS with Satellite weather and GDL-39 weather & traffic. · Added Garmin 300XL GPS and linked to Garmin 560. · Added Garmin GDL 39 and linked with Garmin 560 and Bluetooth to I-Pad. · Added Outside Antenna for GDL-39. · Rebuilt Bendix magnetos. · Replaced spark plugs and wire harness. · Replaced muffler and exhaust pipe. · Added Fuel flow meter and linked to Garmin 300XL. · Replaced Throttle, Mixture, & Propeller controls. · Removed old radio units, instruments, and old wire from aircraft. 7. hey awesome. Im getting a T-hangar at corona no matter which model I get. Ill see you out there.
  8. good to know. there are a couple Cs around KSNA. I think theres one for sale actually, maybe ill kick the tires on that one.
  9. I cant afford an F and want to see if the climb out is reasonable with 180HP. And its been years since I was in a mooney of any kind.
  10. not sure. In my head the cherokee seems bigger all the way around. didnt think the mooney with manual gear would be that much weight. Hah, I dont. 40k per the wife. Big career change and just about to pay of the house so im lucky shes letting me spend anything. Ive seen Fs close to 40 but they either have a weak panel or a spent engine. At least so far thats what Ive seen. Only been really looking at this range mooney for a couple weeks. Dad used to own a C when I was a kid. thanks for the welcome!
  11. Im in the market for a G model. Im in Orange County. Would like a ride in a G model. Ill buy the gas and the beer. I can come to you. I have friends in san jose so I might be able to swing it to ride in one from norcal if theres any takers. apologies if this isnt the right area or not cool to ask. I dont know many people in aviation so I figured this would be the spot. im an IT guy, fairly normal, a dog and cat, married, I dont smell. changing careers to aviation and working on my IR then CPL/CFI. Almost 40 years old. dont want to sound like a match.com post but be happy to shoot a few emails back and forth so you know Im not to weird. I hear you mooney guys like to show off your planes though
  12. i just looked. I had in my head the cherokee 180 must weigh more than the M20g. wrong. m20g is 1585 empty with a gross of 2525 cherokee 180 is 1310 empty with a gross of 2400. so maybe this G will be struggling at 250fpm leaving big bear or mammoth. maybe i do want that extra 20hp. I need to find somebody in SoCal to give me a ride in one. Ill buy the gas and lunch.
  13. its a nice plane but I doubt i can beat him down 5k. He seems to be right in the market price for an F.
  14. no offense meant to the shortbody guys. Im 6'3" so with the pilot seat back my little asian wife couldnt even get in the back which scared me off this G does have fuel flow gauge and digital engine monitor. as to carb sipping less gas, idk, heard it on the internets... An F is/was my first choice but theres nothing with a decent IFR panel under 40k (wife limit) that Ive seen so far. Im not in a huge rush to purchase but want to get going fairly soon.
  15. thanks
  16. I think its everybodys least fav. I gave myself the Turtle name here since its the slowest in the mooney fleet lol.
  17. Im the type of person that never sells something once I get it. So my thought on the G is.... I dont want a shortbody. the back seats are just a joke. Ill almost never have a backseater but when I do... I dont really care about the fuel injection although 20hp is always nice. I figure I fly a cherokee 180 now which weighs more than the G and it will get me out of Big Bear so the mooney could only be better. carb sips a little less gas. The G model is priced better than a comparable F (obviously). Ill check the for sales here. You mean to tell me not every plane for sale is on barnstormers or trade a plane??? that said anybody with a G or F for under 38k send me a PM.
  18. you can also park the tractor on the side of the road and walk home. not so much at 10000ft The mechanic/owner of my FBO where I got my PPL is a friend and hes giving me some hints. Not really my mechanic as I dont own a plane and he wouldnt be working on mine anyway. has enough school planes to fix. Ill be building hours for the first year. Im working towards IR/CPL/CFI. Just sold my business and getting into a new field with less money and no stress !! After that it will generally be me shorthops to LA with my wife or slightly longer to san fran with a buddy. Dont have many friends (IT Guy) and fewer still that have any interest in GA so it would be very rare to have 4 people in it at once. thanks for all the good tips.
  19. Im an IT guy that grew up on a farm driving and fixing tractors, bikes, motorcycles and cars since knee high to a grasshopper. Currently doing a "built not bought" frame off restomod on a 72 chevy truck. I can weld, paint and beat on sheet metal. I tinker with electronics in my spare time. arduino/Raspberry PI etc. I also made half the furniture in my house so I have some woodworking skills. I feel like none of this is relevant but hey you asked and il like talking about my stuff Main concern is it being so far away im not sure I can see it in person before purchase. I have a bunch of pictures which my local IA is looking at and Im trying to track down someplace to do the prebuy a little closer than the MSC. If it was a 150k plane id have no problem beating him into flying it where ever for the prebuy, I just am not sure if its still "OK" to push for that in the el cheapo side of aviation. The plane is flown regularly and has had the main sticking points like the 100hour prop AD and the fuel tanks resealed fixed. (new prop, tanks resealed a couple years ago). The last big thing is that spar corrosion check which he said had been done and resprayed with corrosion X but Id still like somebody to check that.
  20. thanks. Im in southern california, KSNA. The plane is in Nebraska. Hartington, NE (0B4) The plane has a 1 month old annual.
  21. Hi all, Im new here. Looking at buying a 1968 M20G. I have some pre-prebuy questions. Im looking at buying a Mooney that is about 300nm from the closest mooney service center. The plane is 1500 miles from me. For a sub 50k plane is it standard to have it flown somewhere for prebuy? Is it normal for the owner to pickup the tab on that or the seller? the flight not the prebuy... Has anybody used savvy for prebuy? My only thought is dont use the plane's current mechanic to do the prebuy. any other tips? the plane is currently based in the middle of Nebraska.
