  1. Thought about it but everytime I try that on other projects I crack the plastic and thats just with straight cuts. Me making a circle would be pretty funny. Metal might actually work though.
  2. anybody have this plate that shuts off the air to individual seats? One of mine is missing and since im in there fixing the control knob, one of the rheostats and retaping the ceiling I figure Ill replace it. If they are not available I was thinking of having it 3d printed but I dont know if they can do something .085 thick.
  3. yea its pretty tired. I suppose while Im taking all that tape off Ill open the pilot side vent and fix the sticky fresh air vent cowl knob.
  4. probably yea. too much working against it to save a couple hundred bucks though. Never done the process so not sure what it takes. Weekend coming up and the govt wont be open anyway. The guy that is coming is going to hawaii next week so if I dont get him tomorrow it will be another week im down assuming i dont find somebody else. oh well im just bitching. Im thankful we didnt find anything major during the annual, and now my logbooks will be up to spec and I can keep better track of ADs. There were a couple tach changes over the years and the hours dont seem to match up well but thats sorted out now.
  5. I cant get it there legally; after logbook inspection it looks like its 20 hours past, and havent found anybody else mobile. Its scheduled for tomorrow morning so its a done deal now.
  6. all in with the mileage he also charges its going to be 427 or something. I had half a mind to airplane repo it and fly it out to another airport and have it done. I think theres a guy at cable or chino that does it for cheap. But My IA is in the next hangar over and I think wouldnt be pleased with me besides I now have a cracked exhaust pipe at the FAA certified rape your butt welding shop so the old girl aint going anywhere soon. Gives me time to paint the yokes and tape the ceiling and fix the rheostat.
  7. ok I think this foil tape is what I have. Has a backing on the tape you peel off and is like a really thin piece of metal vs tape. Thanks! http://www.homedepot.com/p/Nashua-Tape-1-89-in-x-50-yd-322-Multi-Purpose-HVAC-Foil-Tape-1207792/100030120 Is it to stop leaks or wind or what?
  8. After letting all the magic smoke out of my rheostat i pulled the center headliner plastic. There's a mix of red fabric tape similar to duct tape as well as electrical tape which looks to be covering where the different sheet metal pieces join. All the tape up there is barely hanging on. Whats the purpose of the tape and what kind should I use? Electrical tape, duct tape, metal HVAC tape?
  9. Aerohoff will be at SNA Executive Hangar #9 at 9am tomorrow. Bring all your eddy inspection needs and we'll have a party (and split the ridiculous 4 hour minimum.)
  10. i saw that one when looking previously. dont love it but it may have to do. Or maybe Ill just go crazy and just cover the yokes in $100 bills. I keep throwing them at it anyway lol.
  11. Ive seen some vector art of the mooney emblem but havent seen the exact one on the old style Yoke. I had to do my 500 hour yoke inspection today so went ahead and pulled them off to paint since the plane will be down ANOTHER week for exhaust welding and eddy inspection. Anybody got Vaseline cause my butt hurts... anyway anybody have this specific image in high res somewhere. I have a laser engraver friend that can make me one if I give him the art.
  12. looks like they are only $50 or so. This annual has been painfulish (found a cracked exhaust downtube thats getting welded for im sure way more than its worth, a ripoff of an eddy current inspection and on and on so whats another $50 to never think about it again. thanks for the offer though for anybody looking for this later the one in it was 25watt. 1.77 amp max at 8ohms. heres the link to the part at Mouser. http://www.mouser.com/ProductDetail/Ohmite/RHS8R0E/?qs=sGAEpiMZZMtC25l1F4XBUwuUYO8VJoEE091BXc58FNA%3d
  13. The guy people Ive talked to at SNA use AeroHoff out of Oceanside. But he charges a 4 hour min plus mileage. Seems excessive to me. My spinner is off already and the job is quick... So that said anybody around SNA need an Eddy soon? Wanna split the minimums/mileage with me?
  14. Who are the SoCal people here using for 100 hour eddy current prop hub inspections? I searched the forums but didnt seem any local recommendations.
  15. so I released all the blue smoke from my rheostat today.. Took the headliner down and it's burnt on the coils. I found a bunch of different Ohmite 8ohm rheostats but does anybody know the wattage? 12.5w seems to low? 25w?
  16. just some airport talk one day. I heard it from one of the CFIs. I guess another cfi got a new job that started sometime in the future and the owner fired him instead of letting him work until the new job started. Airport rumor mill I suppose
  17. I heard the owner is a douche to his CFIs? Not true? They do seem to have tons of planes. And any time you can say hi to the girls at flying tigers is nice.
  18. Royal Aviation at SNA is awesome but thats not really LA... I have a mooney at SNA if you want a ride... I dont get all the "mooney" instructor stuff. Its just a plane. Grab a CFI and go flying. My CFI for PPL had a couple hundred hours in a 201 15 years ago and we didnt have any trouble figuring out my old F. Although he did fly it home with the gear down when I first bought it due to having never used a johnson bar.
  19. i hooked everything back up today. I then disconnected the line from the pump to the cylinder and pressure bled until the fluid was coming out the overflow in the res (clamped a tube to drain down to a glass jar). Tightened everything up and pumped the flaps in on the first try!!. was a little worse than original in that it took almost 5 pumps for full flaps. Used to take 4.25ish pumps. I pumped it with the release open a few times and pumped flaps and released a few times and got it back to 4.25- 4.5 for full flaps. I also reset the release screw. My flaps were coming up in less than 5 second. Probably more like 2 so the ass end would drop when you released flaps on climb out. I slowed it way down so I think its going to be much smoother transitioning from takeoff to no flaps. All in all its a nasty messy job and I really hate 5606 but its done and it wasnt to painful of a task.
  20. F you!!! lol. welcome to the F club. Your 1 piece rounded rear window and cowl mods are cool. Great looking plane. If you have a minute could you shoot some more pics of that cowl near the spinner. I have that lasar part and just dont see how it fits without some serious cutting and bending.
  21. yea me too. Its actually 2 leather "wipers". No idea why mine are way to big as you can see in the pics. I didnt push them on it but you'd think lasar would have offered to send me the right parts but they seemed more up on the idea of they are a nightmare to get the new ones on and since they arent a sealling oring dont worry about it.
  22. Annnnd Im an idiot and didnt take any pictures of removing the parts from the other half of the pump. Bascally just more orings lol. Nothing complicated. And getting the halves back together was no factor, although Ive have heard complaints on the forums. springs and balls dont go flying an this project which is nice.
  23. Heres the plunger and the leather orings eveyone talks about. Unfortunately the new leather that came in my kit were way to big for my plunger. I called lasar and they said the leather is just a "wiper" it doesnt seal anything and I would be ok leaving the old ones. I did replace the center rubber oring though.
  24. after taking out the shaft there are a minimum of 2 orings inside the cap. one towards the front and either 1 (mine had 2) towards the non threaded (back). Theres a third around the outside which mine didnt even have originally. The white curly que is a spacer if your gap is to big. It basically keeps the oring from moving around. Mine came out with 2 orings there... I replaced with one oring and the curly que. You still have the "nose" oring as well.
  25. cracked the halves apart to find this: Dont lose those white plastic grommets they dont come with the lasar rebuild kit for some reason.
