Looking for honest feed back on first pls e purchase
Skates97 replied to Diver721's topic in Vintage Mooneys (pre-J models)
I have a 65 as well and while the space is limited it is usable. @Bob_Belville posts a pic every now and then of four adults in his "E". My wife and I are both 5' 10" and we made a trip from Salt Lake home to Southern CA last summer with my 13yo (average size) and her 17 yo 5' 8" in the back seat. They didn't complain at all, I did have to go with only 40 gallons of fuel after you added bodies and bags to the plane, but a short fuel stop in St George for everyone to stretch their legs was appreciated. Grainy picture, not enough light taking off just before sunrise. -
If you are assigned a squawk on Flight Following you will show up on Flight Aware also. Someone can correct me if I'm wrong, but when you are on an IFR plan under the flight data section it will listed the filed speed, altitude, as well as route. There is none of that on any of his recent flights so I am assuming he was just on Flight Following. Here is the flight data from his flight. Here is the flight data from a recent IFR flight that one of our Mooniacs took.

Possible... Not probable judging from his flight to Vegas a couple weeks ago. Looks like a headwind one way and tailwind a couple days later where he touched 151 knots GS. If we're using tailwinds I'm going to advertise my plane using numbers from my flight home from AZ a couple weeks ago, saw GS over 160 knots. -

Looks nice, I wouldn't put much stock in his speed claims. I'm sure he's talking mph but even at that I don't believe he's going 175 mph TAS. -
Central CA Fly-in - KPRB , Paso Robles April 14th

Those are the ones that work best for the host. Hopefully one of them will end up working out for you. -
Southern or Central CA Fly-In - Location?
Skates97 replied to Skates97's topic in General Mooney Talk
There is a new thread up with a poll. I like the suggestion that @wishboneash made to perhaps have one in Northern CA, two in Central CA, and one in Southern CA. If we did a fly-in once a quarter then after a couple of years everyone would have the opportunity to meet a lot of other Mooniacs. -
We are planning for the fly-in on April 7th or 14th at Paso Robles (KPRB). Phil (@mooneyflyer) has generously offered to host a BBQ at his hangar there on the field. This setting should lend itself to socializing much more than at a restaurant. The Estrella Warbird Museum http://www.ewarbirds.org/index.shtml is in walking distance so we may wander over there as well. Please cast a vote in the poll, whichever date will get the most Mooniacs there will be what happens. @Flash, @Steve W, @MooneyMitch, @jonhop, @wishboneash, @N803RM, @Bennett, @mooneyflyer, @Dan at FUL, @MrRodgers, @JohnB @bonal, @M20FanJesse, @Matthew, @Joe Zuffoletto, @StinkBug, @mooneygirl, @MrRodgers, @N9201A @SantosDumont @ilovecornfields @MikeOH @Simon @Niko182 @thinwing @kortopates @kmyfm20s @NotarPilot @3914N

No worries, I'm probably not going to get out to my hangar until Saturday.

I was going to see if it would let me add a poll, but I can't find where to do that once the thread is posted. I will start a new one with a poll and people can choose which works best for them and we will go with the date that has the most people available. -
I keep forgetting to take one... I will try to remember the next time I'm out there. I have found a few odd things on the plane in the past year so it wouldn't surprise me if it wasn't turned the right direction.
-
I get the same thing sometimes but I think it is dependent on the direction of the winds. I have checked everything and do not think it is related to a leak because there are climbs where I only see 2-3 in the climb and sometimes I see 40-50. Once in cruise and leaned it drops to zero. I haven't seen much above that because if it starts climbing up I open the vents and it starts dropping back down. I have also seen it in descent as well. I have wondered if it is the direction my exhaust is pointed but I haven't seen pics of another with the same exhaust pipe to evaluate that.

I like that plan. -

I know, I think once we find out what works best for Phil we will just go with that date and whoever can make it can come. It would be nice to have one of these someplace once a quarter instead of once a year. Then If somebody can't make it they can come to the next one without it being forever away. Perhaps just bounce it around a few different places, if we can get others to host then all the better. I would be happy to host one at my hangar sometime in the future. -

Thanks for adding in the others. I am trying to keep a running list to use for future fly-ins. Hmmm... I wonder how many others we would lose to the MAPA PPP if we did it that weekend. -

I just learned that I can edit the title if I created the thread. I was just going back through this thread to put all the details into the first post and change the title to make it easier for everyone to see the plan, but then I noticed that @mikefox had said he will be out of town and is not available on the 17th. (I know we won't be able to make it fit everyone's schedule but of those that responded that they would go to KPRB most hadn't given dates they couldn't make it.) Should we push it to a Saturday in April? How about April 7th or 14th? Phil, do either of those dates work for you, is one better than the other? The plan is BBQ at Phil's (@mooneyflyer) hangar and then possibly wandering over to the Estrella Warbird Museum http://www.ewarbirds.org/index.shtml. @Flash, @Steve W, @MooneyMitch, @jonhop, @wishboneash, @N803RM, @Bennett, @mooneyflyer, @Dan at FUL, @MrRodgers, @JohnB @bonal, @M20FanJesse, @Matthew, @Joe Zuffoletto, @StinkBug, @mooneygirl, @MrRodgers, @N9201A @SantosDumont @ilovecornfields @MikeOH @Simon @Niko182 @thinwing -

I'll start a new topic this evening with the date and location to see how many we can get committed. If we can't get enough then we can try for an April date. -

I am only available on Saturdays. I could do March 17th and may be able to do the 24th but I will probably be in AZ that weekend. If we can get enough for the 17th I'm definitely in. -

This might be the most fun. It would definitely lend itself more to visiting than eating in a restaurant. I think we could get those coming in to help bring drinks/chips/etc or chip in to offset the cost of the BBQ. In March I'm available the 17th or any Saturday in April. -
Leaky fuel tank woes ... looking for perspectives

Paging @Raptor05121 on resealing tanks on your own. I think it is buried somewhere in your continuous update thread. -
Actually, there is a version for Certified, it is just $400 more than the experimental... http://www.aircraftspruce.com/catalog/elpages/galacticaredbaronxp.php?clickkey=328376 Experimental version... http://www.aircraftspruce.com/catalog/elpages/aveoredbaronmaxired3.php?clickkey=3278926

Aircraft Spruce lists them as for experimental use only... What would happen if someone put that on a certified plane and kept their old beacon just in case they needed to put it back in? Just asking for a friend...

I was glad we were heading West and not East!

This was a week ago, we flew to AZ and then brought a Pilots n Paws dog back with us. I also took my dad flying in the Mooney for the first time. I have some video to edit of that flight and then will post that up separately. It was a fun flight back with ground speeds of 175-190 mph. Some bumps over Palm Springs as ATC routed us over KPSP for traffic pushing us closer to the mountains than if we had just stayed in the middle of the pass. The landing was probably my most challenging to date with the winds 050 12G28 on runway 07, at night, with no PAPI/VASI coming in over the trees, but I put it almost on the center line without a side load and felt really good about it. Jenny – PilotsnPaws – AZ to SoCal along with some bumpy air Here's a couple of pics, more on my blog.

Does San Luis Obispo see much of a marine layer? If it's a lunch time fly-in I would think it wouldn't be much of a factor but thought I would ask. -
Sorry for your loss. I'm glad you were able to have some fun experiences flying with her.
