  1. One problem I have when looking at used planes is mission creep. Top end of the E's and I think why not a J, start looking at great examples of a J and the Eagle looks doable. From the comments above you are getting a HUGE range of plane values. It makes it hard to know where to stop.
  2. 5 years...ok Please have a nice evening as well.
  3. No, posting it is not necessary. Enough has been said online already. I hope someone is able to buy this aircraft in the future and put 25-30k into the aircraft and enjoy it for the next 20 years.
  4. Just looked up the plane on controller. Looks to be a good deal to me. Interior looks clean, panel looks clean and complete, exterior looks good, engine is a run out reman so hopefully will be a reasonable overhaul. What the heck am I missing? Is the hole a major structure item or a small hole in the thin aluminum? $10 of patched aluminum or a $10k repair? Major corrosion?
  5. You are looking at 65k for a J (I'm sure the buyer would reduce the price if you wanted it as is). I have not looked up the info on this plane but that IMO is the lower end of J transactions. The neglect as you call it, even though good shops have worked on it recently, is already priced in.
  6. You took the plane to a great shop. They did a good job finding all the neglected maintenance items (often happens when people fly less and decide to sell). They found 10k worth of items that need to be addresses. The seller said he would cover the cost to fix those items. I'm not sure I see a polished turd of an airplane or seller. You have a great history maintaining machinery for the government. It's good to have high standards and keep them throughout your ownership. We need people like you to keep the fleet going. To some individuals 10k is a lot of money which is why some of the maintenance gets pushed out. You keep going back to the oil leak and I'm not sure what the fixation is on that. It needs to be addressed for sure with better methods than rtv caulk. But the engine is run out and the current owner was probably planning on overhauling it in the near term. It sounded like you were pushing the prebuy shop to place a value on the leak to lean on the seller more they refused and you are venting here. My only point is with a free market everyone is trying to maximize buying/selling and in this case you want a broker plane to be a great deal with perfect maintenance. Sometimes that's a hard plane to find. As I said before good luck with your search.
  7. Looking for a companion or partner? At first glance I was not sure if your account was hacked. I wish the OP good luck with his aircraft hunt. However, be kind with words used to describe other aircraft. @gsxrpilot is keeping a list of people that have had some growing pains with recent purchase Mooney aircraft. I'm thinking it would be good to have a list for when the MS buyers become sellers. We are very quick to throw stones areound here.
  8. I guess I'd fit the bill for the OP. However, starting a thread like this without a first and last name listed and an N number displayed is kind of ironic no?
  9. People give the same value on engine times if the overhaul is 30 years old and the bird is flying 30 hrs a year vs one that is recent, flying 150 hrs a year. I'd much rather buy a plane that has been in the air a lot over the past decade and has good maintenance to back that up.
  10. Agree^
  11. Won't happen. They won't even allow the companies g500 panel to be used with the 500 AP. However, my guess is the 500 AP will only be sold through Garmin dealers so you will not get the "10 hours in my own hanger" installs. It wouldn't surprise me if the end user price difference between the 500 and 600 being 6-8k with the 500 user getting a "free" G5 or two.
  12. Big hanger with a loft, a late model pc12, a aircam, and my current Mooney. My dream setup although I'm not planning on buying a ticket anytime soon.
  13. I'll take it, my son needs one. I'll pick up in person and pay cash.
  14. Recently upgraded from a jpi 700 to a 900 so downloads should be easier. Might have to look at this service.
  15. Sounds like a good reason to get a 201 style windshield mod...
  16. What a perfect way to see the eclipse!
  17. The external antenna or waas source is required for the G5 installed in the AI or TC location. It is not required if installing in the DG/HSI location. However, the magnetometer is required if installing in the DG location.
  18. Even if Garmin made the gad43e available it would cost >5amu for the unit and unlock code without installation. They would need to announce a new box that does the same thing at 1/10 the cost and stipulate it is not legal to use if you have a green or blue plane...
  19. I've seen a lot of Porsche 911 spin out mid corner and plenty other exotics almost park it in the corners. They receive the same comments that your instructor is saying. I personally agree that a sr22tn is too much aircraft for a new pilot. Retract does not add or subtract performance it just adds a little complexity. IMO there is a lot going on with a cirrus aircraft and you need to be dedicated to learn the proper techniques to manage it. Having lots of money does not always mean the individual is dedicated.
  20. I think Cessna has the vacuum backup. Probably certified the 1000 that way.
  21. I really hope @thinwing purchased / was loaned a 530w to get his plane back in the air. No reason to let a plane gather dust all summer for an easy interm solution.
  22. It can't be a backup to a pfd that requires a backup. The only stc legal places to mount the AI G5 is the primary location if you do not have a flight director or the turn and bank location if you do. However, I really can't believe someone would give you a hard time if you placed the additional life saving device off to the side instead. ...not really sure why I keep repeating this BS legal crap. What you should do is put it where it will be most helpful and find a reasonable person to get it field approved...like @gsxrpilot
  23. If you have a air driven DG you will need a pair of G5's
  24. 175 kts with a 10 knot tailwind...that's one fast F!
  25. No backup is required. Im curious if it is legal to install in the T&B location if the plane is FIKI?
