  1. I've been thinking recently that I should always be flying approaches. Towers seem to want to put you in a lot of tight patterns and manuevers, unless you fly the approach in which case you are just lined up so nicely. This case is chilling to me, because I fly with my kids. Just did this weekend.
  2. Great video.
  3. Do they have an upgrade for the stec G1000 yet?
  4. Gattica. Not much flying, but for all us pilots that had obstacles to overcome. Priceless.
  5. Hmmm. $25 bucks would have saved him some agony.
  6. The ovation cabin tapers off. Having in sat in all three I would say the ovation is as wide as a 182 at your hips and a 172 at your shoulders. I've been renting a 2009 T182T its comfortable for sure, but it burns about 14.5 gph at 140kts Tas. If I go higher I can get 150TAS. You can land it anywhere and it slows down like a parachute. I've have my wife and kids in it, and I can say there only complaint is they would rather it be 40 knots faster and so would I.... AB
  7. I'd pick B. If he wanted me on a 3 mile downwind I think he'd say that, or he would be trying to bring me after someone else in which case he would also ask me to look for them. When in doubt I always ask for clarification. I'd rather piss someone off then be a statistic. I just flew out of Stuart yesterday and the run up area was past the runway 7 approach hold short area. I stopped at the hold short line and asked the tower, and they thanked me for asking and told me even they are confused by it. They could have just as well been jerks, but when in doubt I say ask. I've also made some stupid near mistakes, but averted them because I asked.
  8. I would also take that as he wants me to approach runway xx from the left base and let him know when I'm on that course 3 miles out.
  9. Interesting article in the aviation consumer. Diamond is claiming they will offer an automatic landing plane.
  10. It seems unclear whether there was actually two separate deployments. But with 4 adults in an sr20 an autopilot induced stall seems like a no brainier
  11. An SR20 refurbished after a caps deployment from an autopilot induced stall. http://www.trade-a-plane.com/detail/2167995.html
  12. A sticky exhaust valve?
  13. I think the parachute is about marketing, and Cirrus has capitalized on marketing that they build the safest pilot and non pilot friendly aircraft. Other features like two doors and a very passenger friendly cabin, automatic straight and level feature, and now an auto emergency decent feature, etc, etc If mooney could put one in great, but it probably works better with the mantra of efficiency and speed to try something like an auto engine out feature instead, whereby the gps and autopilot can at the touch of a button set best glide and reach the most suitable landing area. Perhaps even alla tesla the GPS could advise what altitude you need to cruise at to reach a suitable field. Too me this would be just as practical as a parachute, but save on useful load and cost.' it might actually be a sales win over the parachute because your sales guy could actually demonstrate it. love the two doors.
  14. An SR22 GTS with FIKI starts at 735 an Sr22t GTS 835. Price isn't the problem. Cirrus has a story of safety and innovation. They focus on it. I would imagine if mooney would tell their story of speed through efficiency and focus on it, they too could be successful. As great as the Cirrus is, the single best selling model is still the 172. It's simple, safe, reliable. In fact whenever I rent one it's like hanging out with your oldest and best friend. A new one starts at something like 420 reasonably equipped.

    First video

Which seat are you in? A 172RG is a classic. You should make the video black and white.
  16. Hi Alan. Are you an avionics guy? just wondering. Also did you sell the 650?

Ok. There is an older 252 nearby and I might get you to quote me on a panel upgrade. I'm going to go see it first and then I'll try and get back with you.

I haven't owned or flown from 2010 until this year. I'm instrument proficient again in g1000 gfc700. I'd love to try and create that type of integration on the "cheap" side as if there were such a thing.

  17. buy @LANCECASPER ovation. He is definitely the kind of owner you want to be able to buy after. If it's still for sale. IMHO
  18. I've known too many student pilots that go through this thought process and then never get their ticket. I'd say get your license first. Hopefully you can learn in steam gauges and on a g1000 and decide which way you want to go.
  19. Pretty much the whole time. I'm pretty sure I requested the logbooks at one point, about 1100 hours of the total time came in the first few years. I don't really know logbooks but something happened that looked strange. The owner completely denied it, and he seems like a nice fellow. It's at FD88 a private strip close to Port St. Lucie. It's out of annual. http://www.trade-a-plane.com/detail/1588380.html
  20. Actually the economics of plane ownership are like the economics of all things. Your cost of ownership is measured by the cost or profit of your alternative (most likely in this case renting an airplane).
  21. My wife would love that ad. When someone is surprised to hear I fly or that I flew the family somewhere, she is usually quick to point out that all I did was "push a few buttons"
  22. I'll defer to the mathematicians here. But I believe if you multiplied the rental rate by 1.20 you would get the real comparison number against Tach time.
  23. Did you figure that the plane you would rent at 120 per hour is based on Hobbs time? That's a big difference if you didn't.
  24. I had a Seneca III. It did make low IFR easier and plenty of room for the family. But I think if I had to do it over again, and I might. I'd get a Malibu.
