  1. I see Jennifer's name as the Admin. But is there really no publicity about who bought MAPA? I would think they would be visiting all these sites or at least reaching out to Mooney owners they know to be singing their praises.
  2. Are you talking about the Bearing Pointer? Yes, you can get an Arrow that points towards the other Nav's Wpt, but that's not the same as two simultaneous CDIs (if that's what you're thinking). Also, what difference does it make if you can display all of these Nav devices on your 275 if it fails? What is your backup instrument? I have a GI-106B still in my panel that is connected to my GPS #2. So on any approach I have that CDI mirroring what is happening with my primary CDI that is (usually) being fed by my GPS/Nav #1. My theory is that if something goes flaky with my #1 or my Aspen, I still have course guidance already right in front of my face. Granted I'd have to decide with what the real time situation was, but if hard IMC I'd probably go Missed. But that probably will mean that I still have to track the inbound Path/LOC until reaching the MAP before starting any turns etc. (All stuff you'll learn about once you start your Inst. training.) So if there are no issues feeding the KI208 with whatever GPS/Nav radios you have, and you have the panel space, I'd suggest keeping it maybe in one of the lower side holes in the panel). You can go to the expense of making it switchable if you want, but I didn't see the need since it's just a backup.
  3. Looks like parts to rebuild my Aerosonic 651035-0107 combo MP/FF gauge are scarce. Anyone know of a shop that has the parts or has a replacement on the shelf? I'm hoping with people moving to the newer JPI or GI275 EIS that there are a few sitting on the shelf. Going into a 1980 M20K 231 Thanks!
  4. Ah... you should bear with them a little bit. Since they just took over I'm sure they're working with a bare bones staff. (That's the best I can come up with until I have more coffee... )
  5. I shot off a Txt to someone with MAPA Safety Foundation to ask if by chance they were the new owners. No reply yet, but it would be nice if they were still involved.
  6. Naw, looking at the picture would have been too simple! But now that I went back and scrolled down to actually see the pic, I do understand his comment "...but it's mounted on the panel for some reason..." when he was talking about the 345R. It does appear to be at the bottom on the right. Looks like they cut a hole in the black panel plate for the access port.
  7. I had mine done YEARS ago with some silicone type material. Although they're a bit dirty and have some scuff marks, they are still in great shape all these years later. I remember the discussion with the mechanic at the time saying I could pay once now or a couple of times more over the years.
  8. Are there any knobs, buttons or a display on your GTX345? If so, it is not 345R, it's a regular 345, but you can control most of the basic functions remotely from the GTN. The 345R is just a silver box with no controls. I suppose they could have mounted it in the panel due to space, but I think they usually mount it up underneath out of sight.
  9. On caution on doing any Software Updates to all of your 275s right now... There is an issue with v2.6 where if you do a Navigation Data update to one of the units, it does not transfer over to the other units like it used to. So if your other two 275s are set up to fail over as a backup, you may need to load the Nav Data update into each 275. Some background if none of that makes sense as a new 275 owner.... In the past when it was time for a Navigation Database Update, you'd update one of the 275 and that update would be sent to the other units you own (assuming they all registered for the update) and you're all done. This is true also if you a GNC/GTX/GPS (or GTN if you start there), it would send the update to the 275s and everything else. With the BUG in the current Software, the Nav Database update goes into the first unit, but it no longer sends it out to all the other devices. So you have to update then individually. Bit of a pain and you need to find the update cable for the other units that probably crammed up under the panel.
  10. I also don't have an EIS, but agree with @jlunseth that it must just be a configuration issue. OR.... How old is the unit and when was the software last updated? From what I read, it was mid 2021 that the "enhanced display layouts" were introduced. So it is possible that your unit just needs an update to be able to show the all-in-one screen.
  11. You can easily make or buy paper funnels. If you make one, be sure to use some printer paper or something that has a little weight to it. A tear-off pad or other light weight paper may not hold up long enough for all of the heavier oil to get into the engine. And I was going to post a link to some inexpensive funnels, but they've really gone up in price. But I do see that you can get 200 Snow Cones for $17. Scissors or a quick tear and you're all set! https://www.amazon.com/Disposable-Snow-Cone-Paper-Funnel/dp/B07V4GNFNK/ref=sr_1_10?keywords=paper+funnel&qid=1677688662&sr=8-10 (Sell all the extra's off to your friends and you may even make a few cents. )
  12. Slowly???? Oh wait... I thought you were asking???
  13. Are you talking about spacing in the air or when it's okay for you to touch down on the runway while the other plane is departing? 3,000 Feet of Separation: Category I aircraft landing behind Category I or II 4,500 Feet of Separation: Category II aircraft landing behind Category I or II 6,000 Feet of Separation: When either is a category III aircraft
  14. Actually.... I believe you only get an Upgrade with your DB subscription, but you do not get a Pilot subscription? Or was that not the "handheld" device you were talking about?? Before I realized that doing an DB update with Pilot was not really the best way, I was sort of miffed that Garmin didn't give you the basic subscription to do the updates. Still think they should provide a "Pilot Lite" for updating.
  15. The OnePac is for multiple GPS databases. In my case my GTN, GNC and GI275 are all covered with the one subscription. It would be very expensive to buy three single DB subscriptions to have one for each device.
  16. No idea without hearing it, but in addition to the gear motor, it may also be a left wheel bearing or brake issue. But that would need to be pretty loud and you'd probably hear something if you pushed the plane back into a hangar or tiedown spot.
  17. For your GPS175 you need a separate subscription from Garmin. If you just got the 175, check with your Avionics Shop to make sure they didn't set up an account for you. If not, make sure you have the System ID (and prob. the Serial#) and go to https://fly.garmin.com/ to set up an account. Follow the prompts to Add Device and be sure to add ALL of your devices if you have any GI275s or whatever. When you're all done, one of the options is to Buy Database. If you do have more than one device, be sure to look at the Bundle option as it is the most cost effective. If you fly VFR ONLY, you could probably buy a DB once a year (thought there's not a lot of savings.) If you fly IFR, there's really no option. It's not just a question of what the FAA will say, it's in the Garmin Documentation that the DB must be current. So then you get into an area where you're probably not covered by insurance, even if whatever happens isn't your fault. So it's not worth it not to get the DB Subscription. Once everything is set, you're going to need to download Garmin Aviation Database Manager, that's what Garmin uses now to update the SD Card to do the updates. (Or you can do it through Pilot, but I hear it takes a lot longer and is unreliable for some.)
  18. Wonder if (and not an aerodynamics expert by any means) it has anything to do with more air going through the engine compartment and less back pressure drag? The slight opening in the cowl flaps might still be out of the airstream and not really add much parasite drag. And it will allow slightly more air flow or pass-thru and less pressure drag. (I think I have the correct term and "pressure drag" is term for the wall of air the plane is pushing trough.)
  19. I'm going to venture to say that if Air Mods has a $12,000 annual after a number of prior annuals, the previous owner differed a lot of items until they couldn't be differed any longer, or there was just a major issue that was just discovered. There's also the issue of cost of parts these days, pending what the issues are. Do you know what items are driving up the cost of the current work to $12K? And does it make sense why the cost is so high? And I get the concept of taking the plane to someone that hasn't worked on it before. So from a NYC prospective, I'd probably go with C&W. But where is the plane now? I'd still put Air Mods at the top of my list (my plane is there now for the Annual), but if you happen to be at FRG or out on LI, you might give Ventura (Air East) a call. One of the original owners (that may be retired) is a Mooney owner.
  20. The release date is still a bit fluid, but later this month. So I'm guessing only a few Beta tests have been done.
  21. Had they just fessed up, no harm no foul and some more training and maybe some other sanctions. But they keep working. Now, I'd just fire them both for cause (safety). I'm all for innocent until proven guilty, but this isn't a court case where someone (gov or whomever) is trying to impede your freedoms or wealth. They screwed up and now they're trying to just blow it off because they're entitled and the rules do not apply to them. And there is NO reason for the Union to legitimately tell them not to talk. Only talk with their lawyers or even through the lawyers I get, but not to talk tells volumes. Again, not a criminal case, no one died, they just screwed up and the actions would have been relatively minor. Stand up and be accountable for your actions! (Sorry for the rant... I really can't stand the people that just blow off their own accountability for their actions.)
  22. There's a good chance that may affect some of the newer Mooneys or those that have had a Major recently.
  23. Just look at some of the entries from your mechanic or some of the prior ones and do something similar.
  24. Those are the post lights aren't they? Not sure if they put those up under the glare shield (dash pad).
  25. The one with the two poles? I think this is what you're looking for, but won't be at the plane for a while to confirm. 14v: https://lasar.com/lights/annunciator-bulb-14-volt-cm7330 28v: https://lasar.com/lights/annunciator-bulb-28-volt-cm7327 OR https://lasar.com/lights/annunciator-bulb-28v-ml-7327
