  1. September 9 & 10 @ KSFF. This is not a free AOPA event, there is a $20 fee for the two days. In the Entertainment section on the below link is where I read there was going to be a food truck.... And the Schedule is still TBD. https://www.aopa.org/community/2022/hangouts/spokane
  2. The AOPA Hangout at SFF should have food. So there's the restaurant or we can figure out what's been brought in. For some reason I think I read something about food trucks, but that might have been a different event. Or orig. plan was Saturday, but could do either Friday or Saturday.
  3. Going to the AOPA event @ SFF in Sept? Plan at the moment is for us to be there on Saturday the 10th.
  4. Excellent!! Thanks for that link @Fly Boomer!! I did not remember that AirNav is where I had seen the list of changes.
  5. Mine are tight. I also happened to be at the mechanics the other day when one of the guys was working on the nose wheel door. He looked and called the owner over to look and the guy said "a little tighter, right?" and the owner agreed. Loose gear doors equal a loss in speed.
  6. Yep, that's my point. But just strange why the Airport ID is off, other than it's just one of those things. Bigger arrow at 26MA is my comment how the flight to ASH was probably the shortest flight I've ever made. I've made a 15NM to a neighboring Apt a number of times, so the 5NM flight to/from ASH for lunch would definitely rank up there as short.
  7. Anyone from the NH/New England area have any old Sectional or a good memory? Ran across an entry in my Logbook that shows 5M6, which now comes up as Sugar Springs Airpark, MI. But I've got it in my logbook a few times and know it's near KASH and KFIT as I've got comments about going to lunch at KASH might been my shortest flight and I did a practice approach on the way back from "5M6" at KFIT. So I either got it wrong the first time and just kept calling it 5M6, or the Airport was renamed. So anyone have any old Charts or remember anything about Pepperell, NH (26MA). Lot's of skydiving goes on there and I have another note that I took a friend up to pick up his new "rig" there. So I'm pretty sure that's the airport. But it could obviously be someplace else around KASH and KFIT. Thx ADDED: I use to have a link saved for a site that had old Sectionals, but I can't seem to find it. Anyone else ever been there and have the link? CORRECTION: 5M6 is what is in my logbook. Realized I just I mixed in some 5B6's in there by mistake.
  8. Yep! But is that "zoo viv" or ZOMEV? I don't recognize ZOVIV. (And OF COURSE I have every one memorized!! )
  9. I'm guessing @moosebreath is really looking for some flight training vs. just a Web or Book course. So along those lines.... Are there very many *good* Mooney CFI/Is in the NW? I'm moving out there soon, so any recommendations around Spokane would be great to have.
  10. I take it you do not fly on airways with turns in them? Once I get out of the NYC area I typically file Direct with a Waypoint in the general direction I'm going and one near or as an Arrival at my Destination. But if you ever start flying long Airways with turns, you may reconsider the ease of just putting in the Airway and the condensing the Flight Plan view.
  11. Great news on the Recognition lights! Now here's another one for you (and anyone else going to OSH) to hit them up on.... (Unless you have some options!) I'm not aware of any "legal" <cough> LED Panel hose lights. The ones you see in a lot of panel pics. Can you bring this up to them and see if they'd come up with a solution. (Would love to say "inexpensive" solution, but don't want to put people into convulsions....)
  12. I used to just make sure that I did not do any other task as I was getting close to the altitude. And if ATC started to give me anything other than a continued descent as I neared the altitude, I'd trim to a very slow descent. I figured if I was close enough that I couldn't do both, they must think I'm close enough to bother me. So I never cared if I almost leveled off 400 feet high and just continued down slowly. (Now I just just plug in the Alt and turn on the AP to catch me if I'm writing down a new clearance.)
  13. Where did you mount your antenna for the new ELT? External or inside the fuselage? I know a lot people say to install an external antenna, but I'm leaning towards internal when I do mine. My thought process is that I *hope* if I have an off-field landing I'll be sitting on the wing using my cellphone, handheld or inReach. But if for some reason I'm only going to be found by the ELT, the odds are that means I rolled, tumbled or in some other way came down hard. And at that point the antenna is probably toast. With my internal antenna, I'm hoping there will be an ADS-B track to at least the general vicinity as well as my flipping the ELT once I realize that I out of flight options. So in flight there should be enough signal to generate an alert. Once on the ground, even though it may be a weaker signal, it should still be strong enough for S&R once they're in the general vicinity. In the external scenario with no antenna, you'd basically need to be standing near the plane to actually receive a signal.
  14. Just yell back that you're checking your landing spot, it might be a record! On a technical note, though I can't find the specific rule or precedent, apparently unless you have express permission from the owner/manager of the airport, it is a Federal Offense to walk on a runway. Maybe someone else can find it documented.)
  15. FYI... There is also an internal SD Card (fixed in place) as well as the internal memory. If you ever have issues with wacky settings coming back even AFTER replacing the Config. Module, you may have a corrupt file on that internal SD Card. We kept fixing all the settings and saving to the Config. Module and the problem would come right back. Finally did a Factory Reset and re-configured from scratch. Later the Avionics guy found out from Garmin it was likely we had a corrupt file in that attached SD Card which was messing up both the internal and Config. Module settings.
  16. What @PT20J said.... Any VCALC or VNAV settings you have may work to get you down to an IAF, but then will be discarded once your on the Approach. And I just skimmed the posts again and I didn't see any mention of WHERE you're intercepting the Lateral Guidance? I don't see this as being an issue for an LPV approach, but just curious if they're turning you in close to the FAF on the times it fails? Auto switch from GPS to ILS can get messed up, so it's just an out of the box thought.
  17. I totally agree. I often do the "what if" thought process as I read these various scenarios and think it should be part of everyone's personal training. I once had a little smell of smoke in the cockpit and on first glace of the instruments everything was right where it should be. And, as other's have said, I did that "I can make it home" for about a half second as I was still circling the panel. In that second or two it took to come back around to the JPI I had no #5 cylinder. At that point it was a no brainer and advised JFK I was landing. So I'm all for thinking through the options while being an armchair coach so you don't START thinking about it when it's too late... (And I've now posted this on the Internet, so it must be true! )
  18. Sorry to hear about the crash. (KENS has got to have the worst news website I've seen in years!! Multiple videos embedded in the textual story which have NOTHING to do with the crash!)
  19. North or south end? I was only on the south end of the taxiway. Landed 21, after lunch taxied up for fuel and by then the winds had shifted, so departed 03. Never used the northern half of the taxiway.
  20. That big hole with the drain at the bottom on the approach end of 12 (in the middle of the tie-downs)? Or is there a different one?
  21. Not because of my physical height, but for comfort, I've had a Tempurpedic seat cushion for years. When other Mooney pilots get in the plane they often comment about how high they feel in the plane. So any kind of those comfort cushions should help if your feeling too low behind the panel.
  22. Went up to 6B6 today for an AOPA event. Restaurant it open and the fuel is $6.69 (less if you have an Acct with them). There going to be having more BBQ and also talking about live music. So if you're in the area, give it a thought.
  23. Easiest thing I know of is to have FSS look up one of your old FPs and just copy over the info.
  24. I thought the GPS decided as it got close to the IAF, but it may vary with manufacturer. Might be worth shooting Garmin an email to see if this is a know issue and/or if the way you're loading the approach has anything to do with it.
