  1. My ears don't always equalize really well when I fly that high unless I am chewing gum. Bring some with you. Def a smoother ride and cooler air up there, so it's worth going up that high.
  2. Thought this was interesting. Had no idea. (First two paragraphs for you Mooney people) https://www.aopa.org/news-and-media/all-news/2013/march/pilot/quick-look-socata-tbm-700
  3. Don't think about death, enjoy the one life you have. When it's your time to go, you'll go. Live your life the way you should and you have nothing to worry about. I personally don't think you have any control. Death is an Unpreventable thing in life It it is sad and somewhat discouraging seeing all the GA accidents this year, but I keep telling myself to enjoy this one life that I have. Live it to the fullest and do the things I want to do.
  4. I looked that particular person on Facebook. They own a plane with the exact same paint scheme.
  5. Tried zooming in on the pictures. Maybe N7830V?? Could be way off though.
  6. She was probably too low for it to be effective.
  7. The controller was extremely helpful and accommodating. I don't see how some of you say it's partially his fault. He knew she was nervous, based on her voice. Sounded like he was trying to somewhat talk her through it and keep her calm.
  8. Bob, you're correct. Use the word unable. It's your life on the line, not the controllers. If pilot said they couldn't land 35, the tower controller could've asked the approach controller to give a bigger gap for runway 4. That kind of stuff happens all the time. But the controller can't read your mind. Pilot has to speak up. Don't be scared of ATC. We're people too.
  9. Use plain English and tell them what you need or want. The tower controller saw her go down, he doesn't want to have to live with that. I'm a controller myself, and I actually spoke to that exact airplane earlier today. She transitioned through my airspace. She sounded unsure over the radio the whole time. If you cannot except a runway due to winds, you need to say something. It is your life on the line. Not all controllers are pilots. And at an airport like Houston hobby, they're used to talking to professional pilots, who have tons of experience and can typically do whatever you need them to do. The controller wasn't asking too much of her. Anyways, if you as the pilot feels uncomfortable at any point in time, you need to say something. Unfortunately it came down to an uncoordinated turn at slow speeds resulting in a flat spin.
  10. Looks good
  11. I've been to this plane a couple times. The big empty slot below the radios looks like it's the perfect size for a G430. The slot where the gauge is missing was most likely a second glideslope. Just guessing though.
  12. Lots of nose up trim and looking for the proper "sight picture" makes steep turns easy. I used to have a more difficult time with the turn to the right too. And be ready to push the nose down when rolling out of the turn.
  13. Seems to me like the best way would be to find partners first, then buy it together.
  14. http://www.controller.com/listings/aircraft/for-sale/1314651/1997-mooney-m20m-bravo?dlr=1&pcid=17527&sfc=0&ssc=0&src=0&sps=0&ftr=0 If I were looking for 200kts around the $200k range, I'd go for this. It's been for sale for a bit, maybe there's some wiggle room.
  15. 315 hours per year avg. This plane does a lot of flying. Was it a trainer of some sort?
  16. Northern most airport is FXE and southern most is TMB.
  17. All the airports down that way are busy. I'd shoot for FXE though. A bit further away from all the traffic at MIA and it's still a quick drive down to Miami. If gas prices were a concern, don't think you mentioned that, I got the prices off fore flight.
  18. Too relaxed with calm winds and too much time to think with a long final. I always have my worst landing when someone is holding short of the runway waiting on me, watching me, judging me...
  19. I could not land a plane smoothly to save my life when I was training. Then one day I went up with my instructor and the winds were a direct Crosswind at 20 kts gusting up to 30. I learned how to land that day. I think the strong winds really teach you a lot about landing and flying. Fly in them as much as you can and calmer winds will become easy. But in the end, any landing you walk away from is a good landing. In my opinion.
  20. There are A-holes controllers at all facilities. It's just a personality trait that people possess. I can't stand working with people like that. Pilots are the only reason us controllers get a paycheck.

    Gear ripped off

    That happen at ORK?
  22. I'll rent it from you, you know, to help you cover some of the upgrades for the new TLS......... And to keep it running. Plane that sits is no bueno.
  23. This is correct and so is marcopolo
  24. Hmm... You could be on to something there.
