  1. That's actually the golf course. The course is right off the departure end or approach end, depending on which runway in use.
  2. Controller should say "cleared to exit/enter/through (name) class D airspace maintain special VFR at or below (alt). When SVFR you are provided non-radar separation which typically delays IFR a/c. As a tower controller I would never issue SVFR unless I had absolutely nothing going on because I don't know what you need to do or where you need to go to stay clear of clouds. And it's my responsibility to keep you away from others. Helicopters are an exception to this rule. Looking for for the specific reference but can't find it right now, when I worked at a class D a SVFR would shut down the airspace. No one in or out until they were landed or leaving the airspace.
  3. I used to work at a class D control tower when I was in the military. If the field is VFR I'm not going to issue a SVFR bc my airspace will be shut down until you exit the airspace.
  4. J-bar or electric gear?h
  5. Post some pictures. If if you're an AOPA member you can access VRef on their website and get the approximate value of your plane.
  6. I grew up down the road from SpuceCreekFly in. It's a very nice gated community and nice little airport. Lots of old war birds are flying constantly. Home prices to fit every budget. Nice golf course out there too. That's where I'd live if I could move back to Daytona Beach area.
  7. Gorgeous plane. Wish I could afford it.
  8. He was probably on an IFR flight plan and the approach control airspace only goes up to 15k. Just a guess.
  9. Any military approach controls up that way? If anyone has one it'd be them. They shouldn't have an issue giving you a PAR, you just can't touch the runway unless it's a multi-use airport. (Military and civilian)
  10. Price? Can't afford it, just curious
  11. I don't know of any ODPs around here. I do understand them though.
  12. So you were on a straight and they told you to report left base? If I understand what you said correctly, sounds like the tower controller was just confused. If they say report 3 mile left base, you would report when on left base perpendicular to a 3 mile final. Make that transmission as soon as you turn the base. That would be given by Meacham when you are coming from the east or south only. Not from the north or west. If you were on a straight in or inbound from the west and they say report left base, I would question it.
  13. You're too far away and they don't care about yet or have a plan/sequence for you yet. Let them know when you get a little bit closer. Or, they have absolutely nothing going on and don't want to forget about you. So they ask you to remind them when you get closer.
  14. Also, I'm ATC at regional approach and can maybe help with understanding those dreaded SIDs.
  15. Still looking for someone to ride along? I fly 172RG out of FTW often.
  16. Thanks for the responses
  17. Sorry if this has already been discussed elsewhere.
  18. What all is needed for this? GPS? Does it have to be WAAS? Etc.... Ballpark costs?
  19. I looked at this plane on Friday while I was in Little Rock. The picture don't do it any justice. She's beautiful.
  20. I'm not a huge fan of checklists. I believe in the know, do, then verify. When I first started flying, not that long ago, I spent a lot of time looking down to a checklist instead of out my windows or at my instruments. It seemed like more of a hindrance and hazard than anything else. I took the time to memorize what I needed to know. I would do what I had committed to memory then glance at the checklist just to make sure. Adds time to be able to double and triple check everything when you're in a critical phase of flight.
  21. How much would one of these engines run $$$? Ball park....
  22. I don't have a mooney but could take you down there in a cutlass. If weather is decent. I'll trade the ride down for a ride sometime in the Ovation. PM if interested.
  23. No winning numbers for me. I'll keep saving my pennies for a C or E model. I do intend to buy from AAA when the day gets here.
  24. I check AAA often and I've been eyeing this plane for a while. When I win the lottery tonight you can consider this plane sold.
