IFD 540 Question - Holding
Simpson Bennett replied to midlifeflyer's topic in Avionics/Panel Discussion
Switch the IFD540 into OBS mode, make sure the cursor on the FMS page is on the VOR you want to draw a radial off of, make sure you have "To Waypoint Information" (Top datablock in the image) or "Designated Waypoint" (Bottom datablock in the image, it is a 10.2 function that allows you to select any navaid or airport and receive bearing, radial, distance and ETE). The IFD540 Pilots Guide Section 2-14 talks some about this. -
The IFD550 and IFD545 will have the "in-trail" view as well as the "out-the-window" view.

Did they announce the avidyne winner?
Simpson Bennett replied to peevee's topic in Avionics/Panel Discussion
Drawing has been done and the winners have been contacted. We will be sending out the announcement/press release this week. -
Just to clarify, the IFD550 has a built in ARS (Attitude Reference System). It's not a full-blown AHRS since it doesn't have a mag for heading going to it. All IFDs will get a form of synthetic vision. The IFD550, 540, 440, 510, 410 and 545 will have the "in-trail" view: The IFD550 and IFD545 will have the "out the window" view similar to a traditional PFD:

It's good to have friends everywhere!
-
We also have a webpage, IFD440.com, that has a few other snippets of features and functionalities if anyone is interested.
-
There are a few installs out there of an IFD and the MX20. We've got one in our lab for testing with the IFDs.
-
Thanks for the kudos, I'm happy to be here!
-
I don't recommend that. Melbourne might be the better place

It depends on who the app developer is. I believe Fltplan Go and Seattle Avionics have Android versions.
-
Well, we have been here for 22 years already and with the success of the IFDs so far, it looks like we will be here for another 22.
-
Yes! We work with the KI-209 indicator.

Every IFD gets some form of Synthetic Vision with 10.2. IFD440 IFD540 IFD550 gets the in-trail view and...

Sorry for the delay, it was a busy weekend, No news yet on any DFC90 development. We are starting to evaluate other projects for development later this year, so we will see what gets picked up. Once we have some more answers I will pass them along.

For ADS-B IN and OUT, I highly recommend our AXP340 ASD-B Out Transponder and SkyTrax100 ADS-B In Receiver. If you are ordering this setup before the end of June, you will receive the Skytrax100 for free. You can go either way as far as the IFD540 or the IFD440, both are very capable boxes and share much of the same features. A lot of customers like the added space of the IFD540 as well as having charts on the display. Both units will work with ForeFlight since they have WiFi AND Bluetooth already integrated in the box. As you pointed out, there is some added labor for going up to the IFD540 from a 430. The silver lining is that many of the connectors are the same between the IFDs and the GNSs. Moving items around the panel to fit the IFD540 might add some labor hours but you would encounter that going to the 750 as well. If you want, send me an email (sbennett(at)avidyne.com) and I can arrange a personal demo with our Director of Sales. He can walk you through a screen share so you can see the benefits of the 540 first hand.

Avidyne IFD540 One Year Pirep
Simpson Bennett replied to LANCECASPER's topic in Avionics/Panel Discussion
Not in 10.2, there were some complications with the data that was going to take us some time to figure out. It is something that we will be looking to add post 10.2. -
Avidyne IFD540 One Year Pirep
Simpson Bennett replied to LANCECASPER's topic in Avionics/Panel Discussion
Simple answer is yes. An IFD with the upcoming 10.2 will allow ForeFlight/Stratus users to connect to both the IFD and the Stratus at the same time. ADS-B weather and traffic will still come up on ForeFlight and flightplan edits will show on both places (IFD & ForeFlight). -
