  1. NOPE. That is a Ground Speed. I can do that do in level flight. Doesn't mean that is the speed at that fuel flow except on that day. Glad that day gave you good speed over the ground.
  2. Yes. I call B.S. On 158knots at 8.5GPH at 9000 feet. I don't question that it will do 158knots at 9000'. Not at that fuel flow. I am a NON-Believer. With a tailwind? Yes. Hey. Not "hiding". I get to choose the altitude for your "8.8-9.2GPH for 157knots@2500RPM?" If yes then I will take that bet and if it is 156 you lose. Not in the winter when 1000 climb to cruise is doable. On a flying season day in the Midwest. My plane can do 150knots up high with that fuel flow... Mr. Flatland would be a better moniker... I just "reside" here. I am livin' when I am UP NORTH...
  3. How much fuel are you sucking per hour at that setting? Original poster, B.S. Alert. Anything over 155 knots in a J should be HIGHLY suspect. Yes, it can be done, but THAT is NOT real world J number for speed. Altitude/Fuel Flow/RPM ARE the factors to watch closely on these tales of "real world" J speeds... O.K. Carry on with the room zoom no head-wind yarns of glory.
  4. I am a VFR guy and honestly have no clue. I look out the window and fly by feel and airspeed. I pull power to sound and slow down after "coming down from cruise" at whatever speed I get (watching to keep below 180 indicated) and might pitch up a tad to get to 120 (gear extension). Then I pitch for continued decent and keep between 100 and 80 if coming in to a towered field vs. pattern. I add a little power or reduce based on plane position/height vs. touchdown point. I don't fly by "adding 2"" as Hank does above, but truth be told that is likely about where I am in a short body E.
  5. Owning and operating a Mooney is like having a summer home that you only enjoy "on occasion". It makes sense ONLY if you have a lot of money or you have partners/co-owners that make the equation make sense. What was the "value" on flying to SW Wisconsin on a beautiful November day to see my wife's parents and my son with his second Buck hanging from a tree outside a cabin at their farm? The value of a Jimmy John's Sub with your son and a visit from your wife and aunt that were just "out for a walk"? Sharing hunting stories of years gone by and plans for the future with someone that you love? Wouldn't of happened without the magic carpet. Life is to be experienced. I do NOT look at the numbers. I do "The Math" on life experiences. QUALITY time with those I love and I am way in the black on the math... Now Bird hunting and fishing...Those guys and gals are kooky (says the pot to the black kettle)
  6. Fantastic video. Fantastic plane. Fantastic sound. Fantastic, dare I say "magical"?...sky. Hat is off to your accomplishment. Well done sir.
  7. Do you lubricate the wire before insertion? Does age matter on the wire? Did the engine provide any feedback after insertion? Are loud noise or quiet humming to be expected during and after or just smooth running and quiet the key to know you are doing/did "it" right?
  8. Do you rub the wire to straighten it before insertion into the hole? This thread is so Mooney porn.... So educational. I am learning more than health class back in the day
  9. We were looking at the plus....Don't disagree. We are in a holding pattern. Partner flew six hours last year...Not enthusiastic about the upgrade. Can't blame him. Maybe 9000 vs. + in a couple years. Still getting weather and some traffic through pad with portable in Garmin.
  10. The 120 is gear EXTENSION Not retraction. You have to slow the plane to 120 before extending the gear. You are NOT retracting gear at 120. Too much resistance.
  11. In my experience pompous asses are what they are and are oblivious. Good for you to not validate Mr. Clever. You know you fly a beautiful plane. That is enough...or should be. I have Zero bad Mooney piloting stories (based on observations). I have multiple Brand B stories as an "eye witness"...Just say'n. I know there is one new B pilot that is a "Class Act"...
  12. Does anybody make a tape kit to round the window corners? I like the appearance. Very nice. I would pay for that.
  13. Nobody has... See what I did there? Your Plane looks great.
  14. I use an I-pad.
  15. I've given multiple times over the years. I have been informed that I am on "thin ice" for posts that are deemed ? I get very little specificity as to my comments...so No I won't be giving any more money. Thanks for the tip though.
  16. I look forward to helping you make some money
  17. EVERY time I visit Mooneyspace I get an adware that says "congratulations" you are chosen to win a WalMart gift card. I must exit out and re-enter...only to have it happen again. This is NOT GOOD....
  18. There was an uber ride gone bad video involving a similar figurine. A classic tail of a libtard gone wild... I like her. The skirted mini...not the wack-job.
  19. Hey, we were ALL noobs at one point. I remember flying local in a club 172 on a strip I do NOT take my Mooney into. Not because I can't...but because it is a narrow short runway just south of a Class C airport. Grass strip between tall trees on north end is used as a runway for taildraggers...Anyway, daughter and I take off to south (favoring wind) and are doing T.O's and landings in pattern. A taildragger jumps in landing opposite direction on grass....It really messed me up. I proceeded to come up "short" on three landings in a row...short meant landing on the grass...(never done that at time) and so I kept adding power and going around. I finally landed the plane after third go around and the senior airport contact coming on radio and saying "If you need to go north to land do so"...I look back at that and go "Good Grief"...What a Noob... Glad you stayed clear of the guy and that he didn't bend metal or himself. Hopefully he "learned" from the experiences...
  20. Life is all about choices. I truly believe that if you truly set goals...any goals (within reason) they can be achieved. With sacrifice and adjusting what funds are spent on ANYONE can become a pilot and ANYONE can be a part owner in a vintage Mooney. Envy is a sin, but setting a goal and achieving it...especially a lofty goal that can take years to fulfill is supremely satisfying. I envy no man/woman, but I respect those that achieve through perseverance and intellect. Those that choose a vintage Mooney over other birds are wise...in my eyes.
  21. Get your son trained and give him a set of keys. Get him on the insurance. Enjoy flying high on O2. That is where the K love's to play. Welcome to the wonderful world of Mooney. It's a blast that is cheap on gas, but since it is aviation it's still a pain in the ass. Used Bose is tough to beat.
  22. Saw him decades ago at Oshkosh flying the Rockwell Yellow P-51. He looked great a few years ago in his signature straw hat in front of a FW-190 replica talking about his foe... A legend that now continues to live, like my father that introduced me, in my minds eye. Rest in Peace Bob. Yes, I agree that was "One helluva deflection shot"
  23. Six grand pays a lot of hanger rent...
  24. Update: We are still in a holding pattern on ADSB compliance. Want it, but just can't pull the trigger on that price (Co-Owner and I). Truth be told I just can't free up 6 grand right now for my half...Might end up moving outside of Class C to an area airport and saying "F" the mandate
  25. Accu-Flite is designed to Trak a heading bug. NOT designed to intercept a radial. Accu-Trak is designed to Trak a VOR or GPS Heading. NOT designed to intercept/capture. Altitude hold is designed to control pitch (climb decent) or HOLD an altitude...It works pretty well.
