  1. Very interesting, thank you! I'd be right behind you, but I don't know my engine serial number off the top of my head Have to look that up tomorrow.
  2. That link goes to a registration wall - is there another link?
  3. Yep, you can connect to a GTX 345. This is how I’ve used it (without a FlightStream).
  4. Not really sure. I was just basing that comment on the press release, but I haven’t seen an attitude indicator or synthetic vision in FPG. On the Connext page, it does show pitch, roll, and heading info. I presume the pitch and roll is coming from AHRS, but that display is not terribly useful for flight. https://flttrack.fltplan.com/FltPlanInfo/Garmin_FltPlan_HOW-TO.pdf
  5. Yeah I think it was ERAU and they stopped the trial a few months in.
  6. Thanks for this detail - that’s awesome.
  7. Fascinating, thanks. With a G3X and a GTX, this seriously limits the value of a FlightStream. $1500 more avgas
  8. Wait, you can transfer a flight plan to the G3X via Bluetooth? I thought that flight plan transfer was only possible via WiFi with a FlightStream.
  9. Yep. If the theoretical location was the midwest with no ice and you’re instrument current, this is really easy. I don’t remember ever being denied a pop-up clearance in these circumstances.
  10. "Talk me out of a Mooney" isn't a big draw on this board A few alternatives you might consider: Talk me out of a ... ...Bonanza ...Cessna ...Piper (** but we do like the Comanche wing) ...Light twin (** unless it's an MU-2) ...Turboprop (** unless it's a TBM)
  11. A little bit OT, but I found this blog post interesting. This guy has a pretty good side hustle going. https://brickexperimentchannel.wordpress.com/2022/11/19/my-youtube-earnings/ Definitely not your standard “look at me” lifestyle channel .. he builds things out of Legos.
  12. Another one worth a look is FlyWire (Scott Perdue). He does both the accident deconstruction thing and the flying education thing - all quite good. https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCLjbnpphv5EQ6IEY5pWKBzw
  13. I don't have any experience with this, but I suspect that "niche" YT channels hardly ever reach a point where the YouTuber can make any significant income from Google. Aviation-related businesses will sponsor the niche channels by providing products or services at heavy discounts, but still - you're putting in a huge amount of work, and getting a discount avionics upgrade or a discount paint job doesn't pay your mortgage. It only makes sense if it's a labor of love.
  14. I'm a fan of this channel as well - very good content, clearly well planned and edited. He's @Christian here on MS.
  15. This. I have used a shop that insists on doing compression checks on a cold engine, and it can make a huge difference. The first thing I would do if the compression numbers look unusually low is to insist on having the check done with the engine warm - ideally right after a flight.
  16. I'm mostly just eating popcorn here, but I'll point out that a house is an "investment" in the US primarily because Americans are terrible at saving money, and a 30-year mortgage is basically just a big savings account that pays negative interest (but will give you a nest egg at the end that can pay for stuff).
  17. I’ll also mention fwiw that the AOPA Pilot Protection Services plan has a benefit that will put you in touch with a local attorney for aircraft transaction advice. It’s a limited benefit, but well worth taking advantage of if you’re already a member. https://pilot-protection-services.aopa.org/pps-benefits
  18. Fwiw, AOPA has a sample purchase agreement: https://www.aopa.org/-/media/Files/PPS/AOPA-Legal-Services-Plan--Sample-Aircraft-PurchaseSales-Agreement2018-01.pdf Obviously this is for reference only, and I’m not providing legal advice..
  19. I have the gascolator drain. The toggle for it is a small ring on the floor board (typically under the floor mat) on the pilot’s side. It’s a serious pain to drain it into a fuel cup. ETA snippet from my preflight checklist:
  20. Cf Hindenburg ..
  21. My understanding has always been that static wicks discharge electricity that would otherwise be discharged via antennas, messing with communications (and potentially navigation).
  22. This is probably a good place to start: https://mooneyspace.com/topic/37498-consolidated-listing-of-mooney-cfi-cfiis-for-checkouts-by-area-and-model-types/
  23. It does seem possible that the YouTubers have driven interest in the used Beech market, which is ultimately good for Textron and their dealer/support network. As long as these airplanes are 1-2MM, there’s going to be a limited market for new ones.
  24. At least at my airport, the county requires tenants to have insurance that names the county as an additional insured. I’m aware of uninsured aircraft owners who put the aircraft in a group hangar where the FBO is the tenant. The FBO carries insurance that satisfies the county, and the FBO doesn’t require aircraft to have their own insurance. Seems like the FBO is taking on a lot of risk, but as far as I know it’s all above board.
  25. This avweb article just links to the Garmin alert that we have discussed. Is there anything new in the FAA notice?
