  1. @EricJ When your governor was making metal did you notice any rpm/control anomalies?
  2. THAT does not sound like fun! But seems all the rotating ‘stuff’ was still in balance in your situation. I’m just thinking missing a large chunk of prop is going to be much worse. BWTHDIK
  3. Yeah, why bother before assuming I was the ignorant one in need of an 'education' on currency conversion? Got it.
  4. @Hank Well, having just returned from Tulum yesterday, I'm well aware of how pesos convert to US dollars, thanks. Silly me for thinking "USD $2,170 per night" on their website meant US dollars, not pesos:
  5. Ok. Was just hard to believe the 'rack rate' is over $2,000 and the discounted rate is only $179. Doesn't seem too trustworthy a policy...
  6. Yeah, the 'pedigree' of the parts has been something that's bothered me with a 'factory' overhaul. Honestly, I'd rather have my engine overhauled by a good shop and get as many of my parts back! At least I know their history.
  7. How is an aluminum billet made? Doesn't it have to be 'cast' as well? Also, isn't that 'rough' appearance typical of any metallic fracture type failure? I.e., I wouldn't expect a 'smooth' surface.
  8. I'm typically not one for 'overkill' solutions, but I'd NEVER trust that engine again, even after a complete overhaul. I can't imagine the over stress placed on EVERYTHING, engine cases included.
  9. Thanks! So, looks like about a 25% 'penalty' for age.
  10. @brad Do you have the website link for the Mayan Palace you stayed at? My Google search found $2,170 per night!
  11. I'm coming up on 65, myself. Just curious how much age is actually penalizing us 'seasoned' pilots versus 'prime' (I figured 45 ) It wouldn't bother me so much if there was actuarial data that demonstrated age was a factor in claims. But I've never seen anything published that proves that.
  12. If ALL other things considered the same as @Danb's, what would the premium be for a pilot, say, 45 years old?
  13. Not a good idea. The inks used are completely different. Also realize that surface printed silkscreen will wear off. That can be ameliorated with a sprayed clear coat. Still inferior to etch and fill. Another option is 1 1/2 color anodize.
  14. BS My KT76A died a couple of years into ownership. I found one on eBay for $125 and had my A&P swap it and the got the cert. Total cost was $300. Still working fine 5 years later. I already had a TailBeacon for ADSB-out and a Scout for in. No way spending multiple AMUs would have been a “better idea”!
  15. You should just ask them if it looks like it’s been repaired before. JMO
  16. Good observation. Looks like all kinds of build-up of some material other than thin aluminum skin.
  17. Isn’t that the new 2 1/2 blade STC for those that can’t decide between 2 and 3 blades? I understand they’re not quite as smooth, however
  18. While I'm not sure if it is still the case, when I purchased my iPad 10.5" Pro many years back, I had to buy it with cellular capability or I did NOT get GPS! I've never activated cellular service. And, oddly, it had some kind of built in eSIM which is now disabled after one of the iOS updates! Now I would need to purchase a SIM card if I want to have cellular.
  19. Thanks. Silly me, I thought that's what an appeal was for: to contest the outcome. Or, is that what happens after the 'final' ruling? What a mess!
  20. WTH?? So yesterday's 'ruling' wasn't a ruling? Only in LA LA LAwyer land...what was the point? Another two weeks of 'sweating it out', I guess. I am glad to hear the judge is concerned with the 'process' for the STC in this case. Never seemed proper to me; who ever heard of a blanket STC for ALL models of anything (except helicopters)???
  21. WOW! That seems a total hassle and, frankly, really lame
  22. WHEW! Big sigh of (temporary) relief from this Kalifornia pilot. I found it fascinating that his justifications did NOT even touch upon damage or safety concerns despite the filed briefs covering those issues. I am concerned whether his reasoning on what 'commercially available' really means will hold up on appeal (basically the argument that the CEH attorneys brought). I.e. that they are correct that precedent (case law) does not allow for 'feasibility'. Time (hopefully, a lot of it) will tell. But the land developers are going to have to build elsewhere for a while longer
  23. I'd have to double check the STC for my STEC-30 but I believe it is registration/serial-number specific to my M20F. So, yes, to be legal you'd have to pay for the re-certification, I'm afraid.
  24. Given the wording in the logbook, wouldn’t that be sufficient ‘in writing’ evidence?
