  1. Me, too! IMHO, LASAR’s pricing is purely predatory and based on their monopoly. How else do you explain, as an example, charging over $100 for a simple seat roller that they previously sold for under 20 bucks? Sure, it’s market pricing and based on capitalism which is why I won’t rant “it isn’t fair” They are free to do as they please. As I am to bitch about it. I understand that owners which have spent north of $500K on their planes don’t give a crap about the part prices; they’re just happy to be able to buy them. But to be mystified why some owners (e. g. me) complain about usurious prices is some sad combination of elitism and naïveté.
  2. @rbmaze My bad; I should know better than trusting AI. Looking deeper that answer is for a Garmin MARINE radio! It does look like you need to enter maintenance mode by holding down the ENTER key when turning on power. There is supposedly a setting for squelch threshold. I'll understand if you don't trust me on that one!
  3. After you push the VOL/SQL knob and SQUELCH appears, THEN turn the knob clockwise until the noise stops, then push the VOL/SQL knob, again which will return to AUTO but with the new threshold set. As others have pointed out, there is likely some high level interference in your area so this new setting may inadvertently now suppress lower level transmissions you may WANT to hear in other locations; that's the drawback of a high squelch threshold setting.
  4. Well, when my ‘primary’ GNS430W bricked, I guess I lived the ‘unusual’ and lost com, GPS, ILS, and VHF nav. Consequently, pretty happy I had my trusty KX-155.
  5. That’s been my approved method
  6. I know I'm a luddite, but I want to be protected against a GPS SYSTEM failure, as well. I want one nav based on something on the ground: VOR/ILS
  7. My guess is some "smart guy" realized it would be faster by not wasting time 'spiraling out'; "look at all the machine time we'll save across thousands of holes!"
  8. It's been my experience most all things were
  9. Geez, guys! These are ROUND, how much time are you really going to save with all this fancy automation over a simple drill press and a fly cutter?
  10. While it seems a bit high, my bigger concern is how much experience do they have inspecting Mooneys; do they really know the proper things to look for? And, my standard advice is to buy a plane that the owner has been recently and continuously flying. If the owner has been flying around, especially with his family onboard, that would be excellent evidence of a solid aircraft.
  11. Dang! I may have to sell my F and upgrade
  12. @Jeff Uphoff 310 NA horsepower….YUUUMM! What power settings/speeds/fuel burns do you have at, say, 15K?
  13. And, OPP. That’s the path I’ll likely take. Along with boneyards.
  14. Well said. I do find the 'guilt tripping' attempts against those of us who are skeptical, and therefore parsimonious with 'donations', to be a bit annoying, however. I wish all involved the best of luck, though I think it will be skill that is able to successfully put those 'donations' to use! Obviously, I'll be waiting until the opportunity rises to a level of investment
  15. Well, I'd still like to understand why/how they were even unable to make annuals a profit center; that seems pretty basic to me. I think just a cash calf would be nice, at this point Did they? I thought that project was entirely out of Chino (KCNO)..I'm skeptical all that equipment and expertise/knowledge was transferred to Kerrville when the project was cancelled. Do you know?
  16. WOW! An ad hom as a rebuttal to my opinion disagreeing with yours! It's LASAR's choice how best to spend THEIR money on whatever they wish and in whatever manner THEY see fit to better their business. Being skeptical is hardly pointless and questioning paying a fee for an undefined return on your 'investment' is certainly fair game in a forum.
  17. FWIW I haven't had them in the 8 years I've owned my F. In fact, I didn't know hub caps even were an thing until a thread here on MS a little while back educated me! With wheels retracted I can't imagine any effect whatsoever. I can see an argument that on grass/dirt strips they would help keeping dirt out of the hub/bearings, but on concrete/asphalt I just don't see them making much difference...IMHO, anyway.
  18. That might be the price before the 30% increase
  19. You mean LASAR? I’ll wait to see how that works out price wise.
  20. NO, WE do not have a company to save; that’s Mooney/LASAR’s job! There are plenty of worthy CHARITIES to DONATE to. Mooney is NOT a one of them.
  21. My electric gear is original. If the worm gear need replacing and new ones can't be found, I may well MODIFY it to manual.
  22. BINGO! All this armchair criticism of "current management" fails to account for that fact! I think Jonny has done the best anyone could have given exactly the business' sales limitations you laid out. I'd also like to point out Mooney has been 'passed around' plenty by other management teams/owners; aviation is a tough business, especially long term success for any single company. Deep pockets is almost a requirement for weathering long term survival. Frankly, having the Chicoms bankrolling Cirrus is a big part of their continued success; holding a decent inventory is possible, along with factory improvements, marketing...everything that goes along with having plenty of working capital at your disposal. Same story with TEXTRON's ownership of GA manufacturers. Mooney lost its active support (capital) from the Chinese a while back...
  23. Hmmm, be VERY careful with that approach. Attempting a color match with paint chips 'by memory' or with a photo of indeterminate color accuracy, not to mention geometric, and illuminant metamerism may result in a completely unacceptable approximation. Finding the paint code is the best method, IMHO.
