  1. Oil .... vinegar. Army .... intelligence. Passive .... aggressive. Walking ..... dead Sweet ..... sorrow. Justifying the cost of .... airplanes
  2. And, absent some valid statistical data on exactly how many epidemiologists agree, and to what degree (and, not just hand-picked politically correct ones), I'll posit that the exact shade of gray is not so easy to know with certainty.
  3. Hmm, lacking actual supporting data makes "seems like a reasonable proxy" not a whole lot different from "educated guess." Almost up there with "follow the science."
  4. Not trying to evade; I PAID my tax to Kalifornia. I see no need to 'prove my innocence' to other states that seem to think they are entitled to more pounds of my flesh
  5. @GEE-BEE I have been very happy with your baffle kit I bought three years ago. Part of what you sent was a set of blue silicone rocker-box gaskets...which I've not yet needed to install! Would they be with the fiberglass? (Not sure you've changed materials since then)
  6. As a pragmatic, practicing, engineer...NOT a theoretical physicist, I'm going to worry about this when I believe that the weight shown on the W&B for my 50 year old airplane is accurate to 10 lbs
  7. I really want to laugh, .... but, as a Kalifornia resident I know only too well how true your statement is
  8. Hmm, I've never had a problem with rocker box leaks in over three years of ownership, but I now think I know why others do....35 in-lbs is just under 3 ft-lbs, which is NOT much! I strongly suspect most are waaay overtightened and the cover/gasket distorts and a leak ensues. Followed by MORE tightening to 'stop' the leak.
  9. Gee, I feel so much better <major sarcasm for the sleepy reader>
  10. @A64Pilot Try going to settings, general, keyboard, and turn off smart punctuation. No guarantee given what you're paying me
  11. Thanks for the honest post!
  12. Perhaps. I had thought that flush rivets maintain laminar flow farther back on the wing. So, I suppose a rough surface could destroy laminar flow prematurely causing increased drag. Wax away!
  13. My understanding is that the boundary layer is attached to the surface; i.e., it is NOT moving. If this is true, why would a smooth waxed paint job affect speed at all?
  14. Excellent decision!!!
  15. @Gubni Please, please tell me you are walking (should be running) away from this one!
  16. Could be; still seems low for a fresh PPL in a complex aircraft? @Parker_Woodruff
  17. What hull value, or is that $2000 liability only?
  18. ^^^^. THIS x 1000. ^^^^^^
  19. I am NOT down on this guy. I am just very concerned that a new guy to aviation is blind to his own naivete due to his admirable zeal. If he turns it into a pile of junk is EXACTLY my concern, and fear for him. I absolutely want to steer a new participant in aviation in the right direction. I just can't see someone brand new to aviation, without even a PPL, pursing fixing THIS airplane as a smart move. He's excited and wants his own plane...I get that. The problem is purchasing THIS plane is VERY likely to end in disaster and sour a new member to GA. I don't want that to happen. I say, get his PPL. Rent and fly a bit before diving into ownership; especially a 'project' plane. Sorry, but fixing up a plane is NOT the same as refurbishing a land vehicle.
  20. Blunt ol' me again...you said you like the IDEA of buying a plane and fixing it up. While I admire your zeal, you need to ask yourself just one question: Am I putting in the money, time, and effort to get my PPL so that I can FLY? Because this project is going to consume your time and money and you will NOT be flying while this 'fixing' is going on. You need to be okay with that.
  21. 50% more is hardly 'just a little more.' But, it sure is NOT 3X to 4X, either! Outlier?? Well, I'll tell you what, 18 planes worth of data tells me I need to learn how KLRDMD manages his airplanes....you're free to follow the experts at the Cessna site
  22. Say, WHAT?? The point is what is it going to cost ME! I don't give a tinker's dam what the average is of 250 owners I know zip about, that likely includes more than a few morons that bought on the cheap and ended up putting two new engines plus God knows what else into their holes in the sky before selling at a huge loss. Think that might skew that precious average you're so in love with? So, let me get this straight...you admit you "don't know what it costs to fly to be truthful". Yet, you're questioning the veracity of KLRMD's actual EXPERIENCE with 17, going 18, planes...including 7 frickin' twins??? I'd say he's a damn smart guy; I'm pretty sure after 17 planes the odds would have caught up to him by now if your doomsday SWAGed averaged costs were real. Stay in Mama's basement and keep waiting for John McClane's call for you to save the day
  23. Wash Wax All pink for the windscreen
  24. Beech Starship would be pretty damn cool (I think there are only six left airworthy)
  25. Thanks for the point-out. I wouldn't have spent $10, but it was only $2.99...so, I think I still maintain my CB status
