  1. No, but That was on my list to research and figure out tomorrow, so I could do that next time I fly.
  2. The original gauge was all that was in there before the JPI. It doesn't quantify temps. I'm not sure about the 1400, as this is just what another pilot said. In the past, I had leaned the original gauge to 25 or so LOP. I tried doing the same thing with the JPI, but by the time the richest cylinder peaked, the difference was really large. Maybe 150 or more cooler.. But still running smooth.
  3. i have what seems to be a good, smooth running io-360. I recently had an JPI 830 installed and just getting to learn it. Today was the first time I tried the lean find function for LOP. I was really surprised to see the huge difference between hottest and coolest egt. But, it was still running smooth. I thought maybe something was wrong because of the big difference, so I went back to rich of peak until all EGTs were around 1350 ROP. Next time I preflight, I'll take the cheeks off to make sure the egt probes are all the same distance from the flange. But, meanwhile, how big of a difference is normal? I don't have gamijectors, but the motor seems to run smooth no matter the mixture. I just loses power when going too lean. I was told not to run egt higher than 1400 in cruise or I could burn up exhaust valves. Any advice ?
  4. Thanks. I'll give them a call.
  5. These old planes aren't getting any more abundant. Every year some crash or rot away. Good airframes like you seem to have aren't getting any easier to find. If I were you, I would just accept that it's not perfect situation. Crap happens to all of us. If you try to trade this problem away, then you will likely be getting many more problems that will be surprises later. It seems that you know your plane well and have it setup how you like it. For most of us, that takes years and a lot more money. Just be patient and find some good used control surfaces and just fly it meanwhile. Get what you can from the insurance company, then cut them loose. Seems like your broker isn't helping you, which is what they are paid to soon my opinion. Life is too short... Don't give up the plane you love because she got a few bruises. It sounds like even with the bruises, you still have a very fine plane and people would be lining up to buy it.
  6. That was my first thought. Possibility of positioning for take over. Also, is there an add on charge for connecting FF to garmin?
  7. I glance at green light and J bar about as often as airspeed indicator until landing.
  8. If it's just the control surfaces, had you thought of just getting used ailerons, etc and having them painted? If I were you, I'd keep the plane and just try to fix it within your ability. If the insurance won't pay up, then I would find another broker as soon as it's over with.
  9. they don't do the ball joint style anymore... they will only do slip on style, which requires purchasing new risers..
  10. I just called Dawley.. they said to repair the ribbed is $600... or if it has studs, then its $1200...... and two weeks lead time... After talking to AWI and also Aircraft exhaust, it seems I can get an entirely brand new PMA system with risers and all for $1400-1500.. I may do that just to avoid down time..
  11. Hi James, Thank you for the feedback. Now, I figured it all out.. i have the ball joints with ribbed muffler and AWI won't support the ball joints as you said.. Neither will the other guys... looks like I will have to buy new risers, which I don't need and have them drilled again.. booo I knew i couldn't get out of this issue for a reasonable cost.
  12. I guess my question is,... has anyone ever been too cold with a ribbed muffler?
  13. i know the post version provides the most heat, but just wondering if it is really needed in the SE climate.. ??
  14. Last winter, I was getting a little PPM through the heater, so I closed off the heat and just watched my CO monitor to make sure none was coming in since then. However, I want to replace the muffler before Fall. So, I'm trying to decide if I should go with ribbed or posts... Does anyone have experience with ribbed vs posts versions? Honestly, not sure which one is on there now... will the ribbed version provide plenty of heat??
  15. dont see too many mooneys with vortex generators. I think I only recall seeing 2. Do they not have much benefit for mooney airfoils? Just curious.
  16. interesting waste of resources! haha
  17. If GA should avoid training routes, then why was the training route designed nearly right over that airport? And are F16s equipped with AdsB? Why put the onus on GA and additionally assume the c150 didn't have AdsB equipment? It sounds like just another opportunity to push AdsB and try to somehow forget about see and avoid... All pilots.
  18. I'm partial to the introductory 201 paint scheme..
  19. If I were getting ready to do something that a more experienced and wiser pilot sees as dangerous, I would sincerely hope that person would stop me and try to educate and persuade me before I kill myself or someone.. I'd rather have a shattered ego than shattered lives and plane. Yea, there are a lot of folks who shouldn't have a license to begin with, but I don't think that's reason enough to standby silently... I think it's better to at least try to get them up to par.. Like that heavily loaded 140 mentioned earlier... Hell, I think I would have pushed the guy to pull out his W&B sheets... especially when there are innocent passengers involved..
  20. When I was younger, my grandfather was flying us through snowbird MOA and two fighter passed over us inverted then dove straight down into the calderwood dam valley about a mile ahead of us. At the time, I thought it was cool. But, not really anymore. All this talk makes me want to really be careful about steering clear of those grey lines and hatched boxes!!!
  21. F is the way to go... Late 60's vintage in particular. Get a good clean airframe with Johnson bar. All else is replaceable or upgrade able. Mine has 1047 lbs useful.. More than enough for a small family of 4.
  22. I just saw another article that says the F16 wreckage is in Moncks Corner, which is right next to KMKS... It appears a military instrument training route goes right over that airport as it turns south.. IR18
  23. by the report, it seems this actually may have happened inside C airspace...
  24. The more I have been thinking about it, the more I think I should eventually do the following... 1. overhaul original AI 2. get a used electric AI, preferably one with a battery backup? 3. get a ilevil... just would want to find a way to keep the iphone/pad cool.. ..
  25. yikes... http://myfox8.com/2015/07/07/329028/ Anyone know if this seems to have happened inside GAMECOCK MOA airspace?
