    Stuck in the '60's.
  2. Only talk when I have to.
  3. Just had another checkride in the mid-sized can (C-130) - makes 8 or 10 so far in my career. Only one check in the big can so far - A330. Just wish someone would "one-time" buy me as much avgas as we put in the A330 coming from Brazil or Argentina to ATL. I consider myself fortunate to get to pay the bills from the front of a can rather than working for a living. Patrick
  4. I think it's D Maxwell that has a hot start technique video on YouTube - I have found it to be quite reliable on hot starts. Don't know if it will fix your specific problem (yours sounds like a mag problem to me) but generally it's an effective "hot start" starting point procedure for our old carb'd birds. good luck, Patrick
  5. I suspect they are mostly empty promises...
  6. Yes to both - Dual will provide gps in to FF but there is also a gps chip that you attach to Stratux for same purpose. I just did it a couple of weeks ago - 7 wires, if I remember correctly. Find the details by googling Stratux gps chip. My traffic setup isn't working exactly right yet but position and ADSB weather work reliably after about 10 flight hours. Good luck, Patrick
  7. ANG 1999-present. It's been an interesting career but I wouldn't trade it for peacetime service. Patrick
  8. Agreed! But gotta be careful or he'll be full and hard to schedule! Patrick
  9. Same story here I remember going over this with a mechanic a couple years ago - two possibilities are emerging from the fog. One, back to the fuel pump. The other, to the generator. I honestly don't recall what we settled on but can check tomorrow if no one provides a better answer. Patrick
  10. http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B00Y35762I/ref=mp_s_a_1_6_s_it?qid=1464757443&sr=1-6&keywords=aa+battery+holder ...but I'll admit it lacks the wow factor of being printed...
  11. Okay then, which ones do I need to consider for my '65 C? Is there an application chart anyone has handy? I see they're available thru ACS, but no info on which one for which engine. Thanks!
  12. I just installed a set in my '65. They are a bit bulky but the fit is pretty nice and they were much more affordable than new leather. In fact, I happen to have a one-flight tested one for a front seat that I had purchased when the full set of grey ones came available. It's tan and was literally on my plane for one flight. $175 plus shipping if tan is the color you're thinking of and you can see for yourself. Patrick
  13. For the original poster - my C is at LKR and I'm always looking for a reason to get some air under the wings. Second (or third or whatever) recommendation for AGL Aviation at MRN. Patrick
  14. My point was not in an FAA mandate, just disdain for their hinderance to allowing reasonable modification, where deemed appropriate. Perhaps my RV-4 ownership has clouded my vision...but I think not. Patrick
  15. Simple. Since the FAA doesn't regulate the parts on your washing machine, they probably are quite reasonably priced.

  17. Hi all, I have one seat out already and am planning a refoam and recover project on all of them. I am considering options - leather, fabric, etc - and am looking for any users of the AeroSheep covers. I fly on wool in both my flying jobs, and the availability of colors makes these appealing, but few reviews are to be found, except on the vendor's sites. Also I've found HiTech Foams to be responsive to my inquiries - any first-hand reviews of their products? Thanks for any pertinent comments. Patrick
  18. Here we go again...
  19. I see an unnecessary y also and it seems to be missing an "ie". Just an observation from a redneck with a pilot's license, um, I mean certificate.
  20. Fixed mine that way a couple weeks ago - grind it, weld it, grind it smooth, prime and paint, reinstall. Couple hours and back up and running. Hardest part was reinstalling it on my door.
  21. Nice little project. I'm looking at a similar "upgrade" sometime during the next couple weeks. Patrick
  22. I've got some things to check. I will look at the brushes and see what I can find. Also my '65 has been brought screaming into the 80's with the Zeftronics upgrade, though not recently. It might very well be related to the mic connections. I'll have a look at those as well. Thanks guys!
