  1. That is interesting, does it have a reference line attached to the aneroid?
  2. Rich, All "pop-off" valves are absolute pressure controllers, it makes no sense to design them any other way. However, I seriously doubt they intended it to be the primary regulator in a turbo system. It would be a very inefficient way to accomplish that as you are wasting a lot the energy used to spin the turbo. I obviously don't own one of those systems so I could be wrong on that but it doesn't sound right to me. Respectfully,
  3. Did you call on any of those Ad's on barnstormers?
  4. https://www.barnstormers.com/category-20608-Mooney--M20K.html Couple of choices here.
  5. They are basically cavity drains and serve no purpose normally. Uses a regular crush gasket.
  6. 14 CFR 43 Appendix D paragraph (d)(3): Internal engine - for cylinder compression and for metal particles or foreign matter on screens and sump drain plugs. If there is weak cylinder compression, for improper internal condition and improper internal tolerances.
  7. Now that I think about it, I was looking for a power setting that was WOT so I had the RPM down around 2250. Pure experimentation, trying to see if the fuel balance changed while WOT. I also don't think I have tried higher altitudes(15k+) since getting my Merlyn overhauled.
  8. What RPM are you running?
  9. Continental or continental, your choice. I've been getting overhauled steel cylinders when needed and have had good luck.
  10. The density altitude today at FL210 was 23,760. I think Merlyn advertises critical altitude of 19k but seems like most get 20-21. I haven't had my 231 that high but I'm surprised you could get 30" while LOP. I'm usually full throttle at 15k while cruising LOP. What RPM were you running?
  11. The "pop-off" valve pressure is absolute, it wouldn't be very useful if it wasn't. In addition to the other things you mentioned check the alternate air valve and of course check for exhaust leaks.
  12. Another vote for Jet-Glo. Sherwin Williams makes some good primers too.
  13. Bringing this post back, the number is there.
  14. VLOC Preview
  15. Do you have the yellow tags for all the parts? Realistically, at this point time SMOH is meaningless since the engine is over 12 years old. Whether it was an actual overhaul or just a repair and reassembly is moot. There is no requirement for a mechanic to log TSMOH. Sent from my Pixel 4a using Tapatalk
  16. If you are going to use data from a STC as part of a field approval you will need a permission letter from the STC holder. Sent from my Pixel 4a using Tapatalk
  17. Minot Aero Center is in no way connected to any business in Bismarck or Mandan. I am sorry for your troubles, your initial post appeared to implicate Jay's shop which was surprising to me. Sent from my Pixel 4a using Tapatalk
  18. Specifically, who have you been working with? Minot Aero Center is the old Pietsch Aircraft R&R and they run the shop and flight school. Avfuel has the FBO now(fuel and hangar). I guarantee Jay wouldn't treat you like this, not how we do things up here. Sent from my Pixel 4a using Tapatalk
  19. Don't worry, I'm sure your tailBeacon will give you many years of trouble-free service. I have installed a number of both units, I never have to worry whether the GDL-82 will read the transponder on first power-up. Also, I have seen plenty of smashed nav lights over the years without any damage to the airplane, not sure I want to hang that much money out there. With that said, I think the sky/tailBeacon is a great way to get someone compliant at minimal cost.
  20. Sorry for the confusion, my initial recommendation to the OP was the tailbeacon due to it's simplicity. In the last reply I was simply stating I would prefer the GDL-82 if I was spending the money. I don't think there is any question it is a more robust unit with better technology (actual transponder interrogation).
  21. That's correct, personally I would prefer a GDL-82 over the tailbeacon. The OP was looking for the lowest-cost with the least intrusive installation.
  22. I wasn't aware of that product. Do they have a STC to provide position to a GTX or do you need a field approval? For a VFR airplane I would much prefer a UAT system with anonymous mode.
  23. The OP does not have a WAAS position source to send to the -330ES.
  24. An A&P can sign for a transponder as it is minor, you will need an IA to sign the 337 for the GDL-82. Neither item is required to be installed by a Garmin dealer. The install manual for the GDL-82 requires a power check of the transponder to be performed. You will most likely need a radio shop for that, it can be done with the 91.413 inspection.
  25. Best route cost wise would be a GTX 327 and a sky/tailbeacon. All-in should be 3k or under. GNX 375 is a good value but unnecessary for a VFR pilot. GTX 330 is mode S and incompatible with UAT systems.
