  1. I forgot the 201 has the inlet up front. With that kind of pressure increase into the heater you can see why the ram air door offers so little improvement in the 201.
  2. Skip, The inlet for the cabin heat is on the rear engine baffle, when the cowl flaps close they increase the air pressure in the cowling as 201/231 cowl inlets are too large for the exit area. I once adjusted my cowl flaps so they close tight and in flight I could see the top cowl bulge up as I closed the cowl flaps, way too much pressure.
  3. To drop the lower cowl on an Ovation one needs to disconnect the air inlet hose for the heater. It most likely didn't get re-connected properly the last time the cowling was installed.
  4. This question regarding a CB used to say no, I'm glad they changed it. It is still very important to use the fuse close to the battery to protect the wire. Also, make sure to use terminal nipples or even electrical tape if you must to prevent any short from happening.
  5. Except it's listed in the parts manual as portable. There is also a fixed option(-503).
  6. In order of request: 0.710 0.852 0.285 0.047 0.066
  7. That's a portable 24/12v converter with cigarette lighter plugs and sockets.
  8. This is the spring that came out of my 231 after 2350 hrs of use. The gear did chatter when cycling on jacks, that went away with the new spring.
  9. An STC wasn't necessary for J-models and later because they came from the factory with TSO approved strobes. The Orion is a TSO approved anti-collision light system, no approval is necessary for replacing TSO equipment with functionally-similar TSO equipment.
  10. Does the Energizer starter fit on an Ovation/Acclaim with the factory air conditioner drive? It looks kinda tight there. A customer bought an Ovation 2 GX last year and when doing his annual this year I noticed the airplane is on it's third starter adapter in just over 700 hrs TT. Crappy Iskra starter of course.
  11. Initially it should be HDG and HDG, your bug should be on runway heading or whatever is specified for the initial climb. When at a safe altitude, make sure the GPS is sequenced to the MAP point and then select GPSS while in HDG mode to fly the missed procedure.
  12. I think what may be confusing you is the HDG/GPS selector. That is an external input for the G600 roll steering converter. It simply swaps the HDG bug output to the autopilot with the GPSS steering commands from the GPS. It is a completely different function than the CDI selectors on the various units.
  13. I agree with your takeaways, earbuds are not very good in loud airplanes. I don't consider a Mooney a loud airplane.
  14. The old style AN363 will lose their tension rather quickly with re-use, a nylock is actually better in that regard. The new solid metal lock nuts are much better, especially the mini ones or "jet-nuts."
  15. If the bearing seizes you will have bigger problems than what kind of hardware was used. Every one of those joints on a M20K calls for a lock nut. Perhaps the J manual was carried over from some of the older models. Even the elevator hinges use lock nuts.
  16. If they are all connected to rod end bearings, no pin required as they are non-rotating.
  17. If it makes you feel better you can turn off the advance on the surefly. Please don't advance the slick mag, the statement in the Mooney manual is obsolete with the installation of the surefly.
  18. That is a picture of a 201, OP has Rockets. I think he used it as an example of an airplane with aftermarket lower gear doors. But you are correct, those doors need adjustment.
  19. I run my 231 without lower gear doors and the aft fairings have also been removed. I rotated the calipers forward per LASAR STC and the airplane still makes book speed.
  20. Fuel flow is required in a M20K. An EDM 830 is not a primary replacement.
  21. The first 171 M20K models (all 1979) built had a pressure style FF indicator, they were almost all changed out to flow instruments via SIM20-49. I looked into getting mine repaired but it was cost-prohibitive.
  22. Any fuel flow device certified as a primary replacement will work as a substitute. There are many Shadin units on ebay at any one time and they work great with the stock transducer (floscan 201). You can either placard the FF side of the gauge INOP or call up any instrument shop and get a 3" MP gauge for little money.
  23. There are four wires connected to the load side of the nav light CB switch, three for the lights themselves and one smaller-gauge wire which is the ground for the Gear Down light. It needs to be disconnected from the CB switch and connected to ground in some fashion. I prefer to connect it to a mini toggle(labeled DAY/NIGHT) and then to ground so you have manual control of the dimming. Closed(grounded) is bright, open is dim.
