I like the app. but you need to add a search owner's street address component and a show street view , so i can see what kind of house they live in too. ha ha carl

Mooney Mechanic near Charlottesville, Va?
carl replied to Heybluez's topic in Modern Mooney Discussion
I don't know! ...but I got a sign off and did some flight training with nate krobath in a Mooney 20 E , before I took delivery of mine.. He has Blue Ridge Aviation (540) 246-9407 . They also have a F available I believe . They have a shop there which works on their aircraft. There is a great avionic guy there too, right in the hanger next to the flight school, and Dave Matthews keeps his jet there, so its really not a "dead" place. That is just a skip and a hop from your airport. at SHD Shenandoah Valley airport. I hope this helps carl -
i use aeroshell 15w 50 cause my pilot mentor said that is what they were using in it before so don't change. I did my first oil change a couple of weeks ago , not too messy. 25 hours . I think oil should be changd sooner then 25 hours because the small particles ,33 microns and below, that get through the fillter are what really destroy the engines. I used blackstone oil analyse . they said "hey send us another sample next oil change , keep doing what your doing" so Im not changing oils I wish I could beat the shipping on the online orders.

Im thinkng this is the best thread of them all.

Holy smokes, 8000 BT is mega bucks beyond me. totally awesome, but ADS_B is still coming and I have to save for that . So I am going to tell the avionic guy; Sigtronics SPA 400, or PS Engineering PM 1000 II both 4 place ( but I have not had anyone in the back yet.). Thanks for your gudiance , it has helped me greatly. carl

thanks i will look into the ps.engining 8000

yes. i have the old hub and the eddy test too.
-
So I think I just learned this. The eddy current inspection is a non destructive testing of metal using electrical current and measures the electrical eddies produced. This is done on the prop hub to look for micro cracks. If you fail the test you have micro cracks, and need a new hub. I originally thought they were testing air flow eddies around the prop blades and hub. But they really are not testing the blades at all. So the hub is the problem. With enough time we will all fail the eddy test and need a new hub Or we can have a red oil mod , which will also, with time ,fail as cracks develop Question; are the micro cracks with the eddy current test smaller then the cracks found when the red oil leaks. My guess is they are. so i would want to keep doing the eddy test instead of waiting for a larger leaks to develop Did i get this right? carl

Hello Everyone.. I am working through my list of things needed to be done. I can't upgrade all at once. I have an older two place intercom located under the panel below the pilot control yoke. Both jacks are on the same box With the copilot's jacks plugged in the headset cord runs over and across the center which interferes with the johnson bar area. So I want a pilot jack on the left and a copilot jack on the right . I'll buy a new intercom for this. What brand do you think is best , I am thinking just two place, front seats. Any input would be helpful. 1967 M20 E Carl

I am going to do this too. Crazy I know. Ive got a bunch of questions ? My first hurtle is finding a place to do this.If my airport finds out they will stop me.(they are jerks) How are you handling this? Do you think stripper gets into the wing and eats the anticorrosion? did you reseal your tanks first ? I am looking at AllKandy Wet wet , a car painting site , but I can obtain a two part urethane from them (maker autobahn) that is aircraft quality. I want a metalflake red and black daimond motif, really wet looking. there are a million different things you can do , if you do it yourself. carl -
Ross he is my update; today I flew a 30 minutes flight , landed straight in ,but slowed it down, 75 over the numbers , full flaps, held it off ,.... touched down good, but no stall warning buzzer, maybe a little fast. taxied back to the hanger ,shut down, sat around like I was letting some one off, maybe 5 minutes. True hot start did not touch anything. boost pump off , mixture closed, throttle left at 1100, where i shut down at . master on, turn key to crank , it catches and i go mixture full in, then i have to ease the throttle in a bit and then that is too much so back out with the throttle . IT worked well. thanks for the help carl

This is not a comment on this accident . When I take off , I say. below 1000 agl , i have two choices ,1) gear up straight ahead. 2) gear down straight ahead. I dont know what i would do in that situation, but I say it anyway. " gear up straight ahead, gear down straight ahead , we go." don't know where I got that from carl

i know nothing of your questions. but i am leaning toward trig's solutions . abs

ryan an i think alike . but what is interesting is the number of people who know where planes are in india
-
but first Ill deposit the shiping cost in your bank account ,which you can pay me back in double when you receive the aircraft .
-
ok ross that is my next attempt ,
-
first i want to say this . it really is not about the time you fly. it is only about the fact that you can fly. You are happier because you own an airplane . you walk with a different walk because you know you can soar with the eagles in your own plane. in retrospect the times you are faced with a major repair or the plane is in the shop for months and you are trying to get it sorted out . these will become great pleasures to you, because you have overcome them . Only the few , owners, can relate , we are a special breed, we are above the groundlings, because we have decided to undertake this. Not because it is easy ,but because it is hard ( some Kennedy speech) . An hour flying your own plane , what can compare to that....grilling on saturday ?... yes we do that too, while we talk about airplanes! owning an aircraft complete us (some movie) actual hours really doesn't matter carl

ok Ross , I have no problem with cold starts , For hot starts one must remember to set throttle at 1000-1100rpm before shutting down (this is where an IO360 should be idled anyway). • 1) Don't touch any of the knobs (leave throttle set and mixture at idle cut off). • 2) Hit the starter. • 3) When engine starts to fire go full rich (don't dilly dally, bit don't slam it through the fire wall either). What about boost pump on or off ? and no priming. I will try this next . carl

I am a low time private pilot 170 total hours and just got my Mooney 20 E in January . I have 10 hours in it, 5 in another M20 E total Mooney time 15.. I try to get 2 hours a week , or about 100 per year. This is often hard to do since when I am free the weather is bad and when I am working the weather is great. Winter I was just frozen in the hanger. I would like to fly down to fort Lauderdale over memorial day weekend , but if I get down there and it turns bad then I must take a airliner back and leave the plane there. If I plan on flying the plane down and Friday arrives and it is bad weather then I don't go at all. So I will book the airline and leave the plane in the hanger. I will work on my IFR rating when I get my hours up there . The oil had 22 hours since I got it . So I changed the oil . That was fun. I am thinking every 25 hours for a oil change. carl

LOOD said "Like all the advice above and to add something very important to that, STAY CALM AND DON'T RUSH THINGS! Something else I picked up here on Mooneyspace, regarding a really hot start, like within 20 odd minutes after shut down, (always use the 1100 - 1200 rpm throttle setting on shut down): Push both the throttle and mixture controls completely forward, count to ten and watch how your fuel pressure/flow gauge jumps around. After ten seconds, pull the mixture completely closed and start cranking" I will try this next . throttle and mixture full foward ,(boost pump on? yes?)count to ten. pull close mixture , ( where is throttle 1200 or full?) start cranking ( Boost pump still on ?) start cranking , (mixture in when it starts?) I ve never had a IO before, but I would have never believed this is as hard as it is.
