  1. I just looked through all the posts what a great collection of people and planes. A few years ago LASAR had a gathering for their 35th anniversary and we counted over 30 Mooney's on the ramp. We didn't have ours yet but they welcomed us and every one was real friendly I only wish I had my camera that day. I'm sure some of you were there. Seems like there should be a mooney space get together perhaps at the factory to celebrate its re opening.
  2. On a 1hr hop to SCK for an eddy inspection saw 205mph GS level 9500ft wind calm. Going to MCE to take a friend back to school today with my wife 680lbs load. I know this don't make sence but it flys faster with three than when I'm alone perhaps the CG further aft makes a difference I've read where that's the case.
  3. Planning a trip to Montana so my wife had me remove the rear seat and I had the STC install pot belly wood stove nice and toasty now
  4. Call mike at LASAR 707 263 0412 he also put a nice breakdown on nose gear in Mooney flyer a few months back and i think it had a nice diagram and also wear points and such.
  5. "RELAX IV'E GOT IT"
  6. 1972 911 carrera rsr light weight good power and in mid to high speed turns you have to steer with the throttle not the wheel a real drivers car and no AOA indcator it was pure. Man I want to get the hell out of this office and go flying!
  7. For me the forward slip is a very needed skill. since my home is in a valley and many locations we fly to are close to mountains (and because I always fly as high as practical) the only way for me to get down to pattern altitude with out a lot of 360's is to slip it in. as most of you know a cessna 150 can slip like crazy so when i transitioned into my 20c I was worried that it may not perform as well or be as safe. NO WORRIES! it slips real well. Normal crosswind at my airport are from the left and i prefer a left down wing so it works out great. i just slip the crap out of her until i get a red and a white PAPI and then adjust for crosswind and slide right in. I guess the long body models its a bigger concern. i love flying my C it reminds me of an early 1970's 911 RS. I thank My instructor for really teaching me the value of a good slip. plus its fun as hell!

just a few shots of our little hot rod
  9. Seems to me that some of us have an issue with the fact AOPA has a citation as its flagship aircraft with the opinion that its extravagant and not grass roots or something. Now just think what the non flying public might think of our tooling around in our fancy Mooney's no one is forcing pilots to be AOPA members its your choice I'm sure those of you that have been members and pilots for a long time may see things as being not like the good old days but man I just started living my dream and I hope to keep it for a good long time. Grass roots is important but if you want to make those jerks in Washington DC pay you any mind you have to bring your A game. My choice is to stay with AOPA I'm looking forward to attending when they come to southern ca.
  10. I agree, it does not matter what you provide as your hull value. In this case the at fault insurance provider will evaluate repair estimates compared to the market value of your aircraft. I'm not sure at what percentage point they will want to call it a total loss at witch time they will pay the amount due and keep your C. One important thing it's up to you to decide what shop does the estimate and repairs. I would also agree to call Paul or Mike at LASAR in the 4years I have been parked in front of their shop I have seen them do amazing things to damaged Mooney's Best of luck to you I can only imagine how upset you must be.
  11. Actually I have been looking into different monitor systems including JPI and when it goes in for annual in a couple of months I intend to install one. Lake Aero does my annuals and they allow owner assist so it will be a good time to do the installation with there help. Should help to keep costs down. BONAL
  12. I'm still learning the best way to operate my 64 C. Reading all the posts on this subject line seems a diverse number of opinions. What I do is climb WOT full rich unless very hot day at 120MPH for around 800 to 900fpm leaning slowly as I climb. At cruise and all cleaned up I run WOT adjust mix for what seems smoothest running and rpm around 2500 gives me my best IAS with MP between 21" to 24" depending on DA. For me the hardest thing is I only have the standard gauges and I doubt they are very accurate but I keep my temps in the green and as far below what the gauge shows to be 400cht as possible. So far it seems good but there is not much you can do with crappy gauges I sure do like all the comments on the subject makes me want to learn as much as I can.
  13. far from it just trying to be helpful with local knowledge. i know if i had to relocate to the other side of the country and there was a group of people that i could trust to give me helpful information (mooneyspace) i would hope to get lots of replys.
  14. I'd love to know what state is not taxing, regulating PCing unionizing it's people to death. CA is still in the top ten world economies. Like most states the big cities set the agenda (sadly). I hate the politics but the rural majority is much more down to earth. No other state can touch our weather and I always find it funny when people from the rest of the country are so afraid of the occasional earthquake even our worst earthquakes do little damage compared to the hurricanes massive tornadoes and other destructive weather systems in the country. While 2/3rds of the country is frozen solid I was enjoying a trip to Columbia on the first of the year. Temps in the upper 60s and over 100 mile vis. California is far from perfect but you can't beat the flying there is the Pacific Ocean the giant redwoods of the north coastal mountains the Sierra Nevada the Central Valley and so many airports oh and did I mention the weather!
  15. It seems no one mentioned the summer temps. The worst days are high 90's with occasional days in the hundreds however the humidity is very low and light afternoon breezes keep things very comfortable. The CA Sierra foothills are a great place to live or visit. Sonora is a nice small city for most things needed. Columbia is a real nice base location. Oakland executive pretty busy but NorCal approach and Oakland center are real good getting folks in and out of the SFO bravo. The weather here permits VFR almost all year long if you are IFR you won't have too many days stuck in traffic. Your biggest problem will be Bay Area fog at Oakland. Also Top Gun Aviation is only about 15 to 20 min from Columbia and they are a big time Mooney service center. There is also a shop that can do eddy current inspections on site. Best of luck
  16. It's kind of hard to know for sure but imagine if there never was an AOPA there might not be any non com aviation. Sadly there are fewer pilots and as our numbers shrink it gets harder to for any organized lobby to make its case in DC. So I don't know the answer to the question and frankly I don't care. I'm in for good.
  17. Ok I'll give it one more try, just a little story. When I was a teenager my folks had friends that owned a Bonanza and that was my first experiance flying They had several aircraft over the years. any way one day he gave me an AOPA sticker that I put on my first car and I was always proud of that sticker because I knew what a great man this fellow was and how much I loved to go flying. this was back in the late 70's. but i never did anything to deserve it (not a pilot not an owner) well fast forward to 2009 i own my 150 and in 2010 I receive my PPL. the first thing I did was join AOPA I got that sticker and on the car it went only now it means something very special it's not about the organization it's about flying and aviation. Best wishes
  18. All points well taken. I'll just keep flying and learning the best I can. I think I have my nephew hooked and my wife's best friends daughter says she wants to get into aviation after I took her on a couple of trips from school to home. I am always spreading the advantages of GA every chance I get and sometimes my enthusiasm gets the best of me. Later
  19. OK I got spanked for starting a new line on this subject. And as a newbie to mooney space I guess I need to learn how you guys like to play. Just reading mooney flyer and I see where legislation has been introduced in congress to reduce the requirements on the 3rd class. What organization do you think may have been responsible for that. Oh and who do you think has been keeping the EPA and air resources board from eliminating our precious fuel. The way I see it if you don't like the way things are going you can take your jacks and go home or you can stay in the game and complain get involved and be a part for changing things. I'm sure most of you guys are not the quitting type and a lot have been advocates for change within AOPA and other pilot associations. I have great respect for pilots and have made friends with some in my area but hear is an observation I have made. It seems as a new pilot 4 years I have the enthusiasm of a young kid but I see a kind of jaded perspective of many of the long timers. Every one seems to agree That aviation needs lots of new blood but if you aren't willing to welcome that new blood then perhaps that is part of the problem. I speak mainly of pilots I have met and come to know personally. I hope I haven't offended anyone cause I really like mooney space and I know I will learn lots from all of you.
  20. We don't , sorry
  21. I did not know that. See its not just about money to them.
  22. This post ties to the AOPA thread. All the points made about membership value are valid but if it hadn't been for a training video I might not be able to tell the tale. I think the re enactment videos are very helpful. As with most pilots in training if you have a loss of power on take off look straight ahead or a little left or right for the best place to do an off field landing. Sadly my home base there are no good options out there. A couple of years ago my wife and I were departing for breakfast in our c150 (no mooney yet) and we were at about 200ft AGL on departure when I lost a cylinder. The engine was running but I had to pull power to keep it from vibrating itself to bits. I remembered the Re enactment of the guy in a MOONEY that was able to make the impossible turn so I pushed the nose over and started to make my reverse turn. The engine was still making some power but. The best I could manage was about minus 100ft per min. Long story. We made it and landed safely on the runway. If it had not been for the AOPA training I would not have had such a good result Cause was a stuck valve.
