  1. Since the previous owner of Snoopy had passed and I had no contact with the family we gave it a new name. I agree the name should stay with the plane. I have found a buyer for my C150 and I let him know that plane is named Skeeter.
  2. I was just thinking about the names we give our airplanes. Since ours has a real resemblance to a famous ww1 flying beagle we gave him the name Snoopy. I think it would be fun to hear others.
  3. Go to lake aero styling web site. They have a real good pre buy check list you can print. I agree absolutely on the pre buy. Before you do that have the seller remove some inspection panels near the spar and to the empennage look real close for corrosion it's amazing how little is a lot. Good luck. Don't worry about the F if its not what you want. I don't carry more than my wife and maybe one other and with the seats up to reach the pedals the back has decent space. Personally I like the look of the short body for that kind of money I would go for a sweet E. Just 2 cents
  4. if they were smart they would just set up a ring of German 88's
  5. I have O&N Bladders and I love the fact that I actually have a fuel tank not just a buch of fuel in my wing. what do you think our WW2 pilots loved the most about the zero i hink they had a wet wing. Zero problems with the O&N's no pun intended.
  6. Hey big tex, I agree a convetional will give you a real education i did some aerobatic training in a 152 and the school has a Champ that I plan on addition time to continue the schools syllabus. I did my training in my own C150 and my first instructor really showed me how to find and fly the thermals and to respect them. my home base is surrounded by mountains so when you don't have a lot of performance you learn real well how to get the most out of your machine,
  7. NICE! i like the mix of an older airframe with the modern paint. sometimes that never works but it does on this one. only thing I would have added with all that space in the panel is a big jocky box.
  8. I feel that flying a low performance aircraft teaches you to fly better. Many say get some glider time well a c150 makes you search for thermals to help with climb performance. Some years ago I spent quite a time racing karts and all the drivers that began in the slower classes would always drive the pants off the ones that stepped directly into 125 shifter karts when they got into the 125's Lower performance teaches you better energy management and you learn to fly more efficiently .
  9. I agree mooniac15u. I had about 250 plus hours in cessna time before I made the jump and got our Mooney. A Trainer is designed to train. it allows you to do all kinds of stupid things and also all kinds of unusual attidudes with a very straight forward recovery and with out biting you on the arse. one mooney bounce can cost the price of a nice 150 or 152. And then see how much your insurance costs. I say build some time learn fundamentals first.
  10. Was going to get some mooney time today woke up and it's snowing today. Yes we get snow here in the California coastal mountains. Yesterday was severe clear and with the current drought I figured same for today. Too bad I could care less about the big game cause its perfect weather for big screen so I'm tuned into the PGA today. Can't wait for the F1 and MOTO GP Season to start.
  11. Our 1964 D has the eyelet vents and Im really happy with how well they cool things off and the flow can be effectively directed. i was wondering how the rotory style vents performed seems like the comments here are they don't work as well.
  12. Hello to the new owner. thats a real nice looking C we got ours last year and i just love flying it. we love the speed i bought a 150 to train and got my PPL but as our trips were getting longer i knew the mooney was the right bird. enjoy the journey!

    BMI

So. It looks like the FAA is going forward with its BMI check on our medical exams. I was wondering how the Mooney space folks are looking. Mine is 31.6 They are setting the bar at 40 but word is it will go down to 30 at some point. I need to lose some weight any way now I have a real incentive. Where are you?
  14. So far I hadn't had any luck but I will keep searching
  15. I know keeping the tanks full is better to keep moisture from accumulating. I have O&N bladders and I was wondering if full tanks are better or not an issue to the life of the bladders. Also sadly our mooney has yet to find a hangar and the field is not secure so some times fuel is stolen so I prefer to keep them at a lower level Comments.
  16. Actually, a good friend is also my own personal CFI he has been ferrying and test flying Mooney's for LASAR for over 12years and knows mooney flying better than most any one. He has so much flight experience I can't even imagine over 40 years flight instruction he has flown cargo all over the world, rock stars, movie stars. working for Cessna delivering new aircraft all over the country. C47's 707's any way he has incredible knowledge I am starting at his insistence to work on my IFR training. I am pretty lucky to have him.
  17. Should be fun. I've got a BFR to do in march so working on slow flight will be good I will keep notes on my fuel burn. I don't have a flow meter so It will take some time to determine my exact fuel levels. After I'm certain I will have much more knowledge about my aircraft .
  18. Just trying to be helpful. There are lots of potential costly repairs that are not always airworthy issues. I'm out
  19. Since I've only had my 20 "D" for 8 months I'm still trying to go as fast as I can but in cruise my 150 burns 4.5 GPH at 90 knots. I have yet to figure out fuel burn at slower speeds in the mooney. You guys know your aircraft better than I do. Tell the truth 4.5 GPH? If so then great. I'm going to run some test flights should be fun.
  20. I've never been to Texas might be fun especially with production of aircraft beginning again.
  21. If the wind ever blows 40mph down the runway I'm going to try VTO and VL saw it done on a video once looks like fun.
  22. For speed and efficiency Mooney's are fantastic but for low and slow my 150 will slay all takers last 4th of July my wife and I decided to circle our local towns fire works display. 10 degrees flaps and an easy 45mph power set at a lazy 1900rpm. One time playing around behind the power curve I managed 38mph sustained.
  23. Stick with it Rad flying out of Oak will be good experience and nothing wrong with a 152 they are solid tough and forgiving. As you progress make sure your instructor is going to teach full stalls and spin recovery. There are those that think its acceptable to just get the student and aircraft close but not have it completely stalled. I think it's an essential skill as is real spin recovery. If not check out Attitude Aviation in Livermore they have an excellent program to expose you to basic aerobics and unusual attitudes. As for the B just make sure you have a pre buy inspection. since LASAR is listing it I'm sure they will work with you. They will start as a pre buy and go all the way through to complete annual. If they find any issues that are deal breakers you can stop the process any time. You indicated the plane is out of annual so you would need a one time ferry permit. Good luck and most important HAVE FUN!
  24. Well I'm sure it would be nuts to spend a bunch of money to slow our baby down. It's a D and that's that. Thanks for the input.
  25. Did you catch that upright bass with crank bait or live?
