  1. Not necessarily. Especially out west. Most of the times yes, and you'll hear the words radar contact lost when not. It's up to them if they want to keep you up or terminate
  2. I don't believe vfr flight plans go really anywhere but flight service. You can probably ask them to open and close it and they might but they're probably just calling locmart
  3. Hrm, well. Dunno then.
  4. I thought it only drew pressurization air off the rear engine?
  5. you're also robbing pressure off the compressor on the back engine for the cabin of course.
  6. the 337 forum mentions a lack of onboard o2 as a potential factor.
  7. Beats me. I consider 12k or so low and only linger down there when the winds force me to. If I'm going more than an hour or so I'll go 170-210 depending on the winds. The difficulty is in calculating at which point the TAS gained by going higher is negated by the wind difference between that and staying low, if there's a headwind.
  8. I'm not the one that still can't seem to work out the difference between service ceiling and certified ceiling, despite having it explained to me. Do I need to get a big red crayon and draw it out for you? The service ceiling on the P337 is in excess of FL250, there is no way you're going to whip your NA mooney that high, bit since you can't grasp the difference between the two terms, you don't get it.
  9. when you tried to say your R was better than the P337 because you could claw your way up to FL200.
  10. I believe it was added when the pi zero came out since it has native BT. However, I see no operational advantage to be gained by switching.
  11. and I can climb past 12k at 1700FPM and maintain 1500 to FL240. That's the difference. I have 305HP available at FL200, you have what, maybe 150?
  12. I think that's the crux of it. It sounds like some folks that have never flown behind a turbo saying "WELL MY PLANE CAN DO THAT TOO!!!!11" without really understanding the difference.
  13. I need the wifi for ADSB traffic on my ipad. If the IFD540 would connect to my stratux via wifi that would be sweet. But it won't. I could probably make the stratux run via BT and use wifi on the IFD but I dont see any advantage to it.
  14. Well, I can climb there in about 13 minutes for one. if it's so easy and practical to operate NA mooneys in the high teens why is literally no one doing it ever? And when they do the once in their life to show that they did it they post pics about it. Come back to reality.
  15. kind of an important feature, living in CO. to have deice boots and the ability to cross the rocks at night would be pretty cool. To be fair the rocket can full feather and I think the glide is 1nm per 437ft of altitude, so if I'm at FL240 I have a ways to go, but airports can be few and far between in some places.
  16. looks like the T337 can do FL300, RVSM not withstanding.
  17. No, I said the P337 is CERTIFIED to FL200. You're the one that said service ceiling. And the service ceiling on the P337 IS higher than NA mooneys The big difference here is that it's practical to operate at FL200 in a P337. It isn't in a NA mooney. Unless you like climbing for 2 hours of your 3 hour leg.
  18. by definition that isn't the aircrafts service ceiling.
  19. and you're really going to climb to FL200 at 100 or 200FPM? Not in reality. So yes, higher. Reports are the P337 can easily climb to FL250 but it wasn't certified for it. Big difference between that and service ceiling on a NA airplane.
  20. higher than you'll fly a N/A mooney.
  21. found it I think, you have to put the IFD into maintenance mode and go to the BT config screen to pair a device. The Maintenance Mode can be accessed by using the following procedures (on the ground only): 1. Power on the IFD5XX 2. Press Enter Button to accept the on screen statement 3. Press Proceed Line Select Key (LSK) followed by the Confirm LSK on the database acknowledgement screen (if shown) 4. Select the "AUX" function key to display the Auxiliary Page. Press on the right side of the "AUX" Function key until the "SYS" tab is shown 5. Select "Update Databases" LSK by pressing the associated button. Press the "Confirm" LSK after it appears. The screen will blank for several seconds before coming up in Maintenance Mod
  22. the only negative I've seen is the P337 is only certified to FL200
  23. We checked that We have one ifd and one iPad so the settings are pretty easy, there's only 3 options. If I can't pair the device through ios I don't think the software can do anything with it though
  24. When you guys connect to the ifd app do you pair your device to the ifd first? We have wifi and Bluetooth and click allow when the ifd boots up but the iPad doesn't see any devices to connect to and I'm not sure why. I can see a wifi network but I connect to my adsb via WiFi and don't want to change that.
  25. Stop talking about them. It's just gonna make me buy one.
