  1. Nope, my 78J is zinc chromate, I believe they switched in 88.
  2. What's your jacket size? Have you ever had a large copilot? Mooneys are only 43.5" wide, some complain they rub shoulders... I found the trick is to stagger the seat positions.
  3. Looks like service bulletin 208 was never completed, if it had the insulation would be foiled backed. How bad is the corrosion, if you take some sand paper to it, is it just surface or does it run deep? How does the wing spar look?
  4. And that's not until 2020, assuming it doesn't get delayed.
  5. I'm with you, if they can't control emotions, I doubt their ability to control the airplane.
  6. Did you see fluctuations before it stop working completely? Mine tends to bounce around and was wondering if I can benefit from similar treatment:
  7. What's the cost of bladders for a standard factory fuel tanks these days?
  8. Why is this a Mooneys only problem? Were there no other planes built with G1000/STEC combo? Why is this not a Garmin issue?
  9. In Mooneys defense: They still have 3 years till ADSB is required . This is somewhat out of their control, more in Garmin 's. With new boxes being introduced they may get relief without having to do anything. All in 1 solution was probably not a good idea for GA plane, heck even most the commercial planes aren't up to code. I bet if I call a car company about upgrading your 2008 car with some new technology they would laugh at you, let alone asking about parts for a 1960s car. And with cars you are talking millions, with planes, a couple of thousand, it's no wonder they are expensive.
  10. I'm curious, what do the big jets with AOA indicators look like? There has been some conjecture that AOAs can save lives, got any data to back that up? Lets take the turn to final, where the pilot realizes he is overshooting the runway, his head is turn to the left, a 100 AOA indicators glowing blue, yellow or red is not going to help him. I have my speeds on by checklist, all for mid weight, I add or subtract if heavy or light, seems to work just fine, maybe if I was flying into sub 2000' runways I'd want more precision. Someday I might take a ride with someone who has a AOA and I'll change my mind, for now, they seem like secondary stall indicators.
  11. +1 I usually climb at full throttle and about 120 kias. I reduce prop to 2550 and lean to ~ 200 ROP as I climb. The extra fuel is offset in the descent which is near red line conditions permitting. Your red line must be fairly low, I can drop 1000/min and stay out of the yellow.
  12. I found when the plane sits out in the sun it weeps. I assume whatever process they use to remove the old paint will remove the corrosion protection as well and certainly is a topic I would bring up.
  13. Nice, but does it interface with existing 430, 650s? Given the real estate necessary, the dual screens look like they would take up the left stack space? A quick swag estimate is $9000 in hardware and some pretty extensive rework of the panel, plus what you charge for STC, you're in Garmin G500 territory. Aspen had it half right with a glass replacement that just fits into existing panel holes, unfortunately they screw it up requiring the external GPS antenna, which adds an AMU to the installation costs. For me, it's too much
  14. Visual indicators are no good, I need audio alerts, I'm not looking at the instrument panel during landings or slow flight manuevers.
  15. it's consider a portable and doesn't replace AI or HSI...my Ipad does all this and more. Unless I can replace mechanical HSI, and make it a primary, I'll stick with what I got.
  16. I notice Houman as original OP in another thread appears as normal, maybe we should add a new status, in both remembrance and so new members are aware.
  17. That looks temporary to me, maybe they did that because there were flying internationally?
  18. Isn't FF more expensive than GP, especially with the options?
  19. Do you have to bleed these engines when you disconnect fuel lines?
  20. I think the new "fix" they installed last night is causing issues. My GP locked up twice out to Wisconsin today. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk Same here, both times it was when I selected the Airport page, after accepting a flightplan update from my Flightstream. Also, the DisCum values are wrong:
  21. Does anyone use synthetic vision? I have it with Garmin pilot and played with it, once past the gee wiz phase it's not very useful, probably could use it for a 0-0 landing in case of a emergency, but it would not be a smooth one, sometimes use it to look for traffic, what am I missing?
  22. Did y'all download engine monitor data to study, sometimes graphical representation shows anomalies...
  23. Can you explain how the angle valves make a difference in efficiency, I thought they just allowed bigger valves and hence more HP?
  24. Try 8000-9000', 2200 RPM, FT, LOP...if you are at full gross, drop RPM down to 2000.
