This is exactly the problem I'm having; those days when it melts and freezes. I get stuck about 5 times a year and the manager gets the tractor out. Looks like I'm in the market for a winch! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

That's the trade off. The sidewinder is very handy and works well when the pavement is dry. The EZ tug would be quite a bit more clumsy. Ideally I'd like to have both but I can't stomach sinking $4K into tugs. My neighbor has a winch bolted to the floor in the back of his hanger and uses a wired remote control to pull his A36 in. I really like my sidewinder....in the spring, summer and fall. It's worthless in the ice and snow. As soon as the tire gets wet you aren't going anywhere. I might have to look at a 40 EZ tow before next winter.

Most of us appreciate honesty here. You're spending a lot of money so I get it. To a non-pilot the Cirrus is a very attractive airplane. I wouldn't even show my wife the interior of a Cirrus because I know what she would say. Then throw in the parachute and she'd be done...hook, line and sinker. I've thought about #3 as well, you're not being negative, just realistic. However, an Acclaim is every mooniac's dream and given you have financial means to buy one, that would sure be hard to pass up. Probably worth the risk.

I know we're talking new aircraft in this thread but I was hell bent on owning a Mooney before ever flying one. I had tunnel vision and wouldn't consider anything else. People make buying decisions many times based on marketing, looks, reputation, etc. Cirrus has embraced this concept brilliantly. I own a car dealership and see this happen every day. Good marketing creates a desire for a product that once planted is hard to remove. Taking it a step further, once other people (or pilots) see their peers heading in a certain direction many will follow; a snowball effect takes over. Call them sheep if you like, and I agree, but the reality is there are far more sheep than independent thinkers in the world so Mooney needs to morph into a wolf and start hunting for sheep. My $.02 is Mooney needs to develop a Cirrus killer. Figure out a way to increase useful load and add a chute to an already amazing airframe. Whether any of us agree with the chute or not is immaterial; it sells airplanes, period. At the end of the day that is all that matters.

It's one thing to bump someone before he has boarded but quite another once seated. If there were no takers at $800 they should've kept going. Perhaps $1,000 - $1,200 would've done it and we wouldn't be discussing this. In any case, when asked to leave the airplane he should have complied because the decision was made and he was getting off one way or another. I don't make waves when it comes to TSA, law enforcement, etc and life has been good that way. I would've grabbed my stuff, left the plane and never fly UAL again. No offense to the UAL employee but I've never been a fan of that airline anyway. No major problems just unfriendly flight attendants in my experience. Old and grumpy. I like Southwest and have never had an issue with them. I'm not an employee of SWA or affiliated with them in any way, just good travel experiences with them; one just yesterday in fact.

My J was manufactured in the fall of '81 but sold as a '82 model. Ultimately, the model year is defined by the s/n.

No fuel, just a pick up and the fee to go along. If I roll into an FBO to simply drop off or pick up a person without shutting the engine down I don't feel I should have to pay a ramp fee. Apparently some FBO operators feel differently. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

In the article the TBM pilot says he paid a $200 fee and didn't even shut the engine down. I was under the impression that these fees aren't charged unless you shut down and park.

In 2013 I had a factory remanned IO-360 A3B6 installed with Champion massives. For the longest time I had starting issues; even had a mag replaced under warranty. After installing Tempest fine wire plugs the starting is night and day. It also runs smoother at idle. I'm convinced I had a set of the problem plugs that Raptor is talking about. In any case I'll never go back to Champion. Tempest fine wires are far and away the best choice in my opinion.

Thanks for the input guys. Weird situation. The FBO operator is a good guy and customer of mine but fuel elsewhere is anywhere from $.50 to $1.05 less; and within 20-40 miles. Anyway, I had heard from a few other pilots that most FBO's at smaller airports give locals a discount. He use to give us a nickel and recently took that away. I'm going to avoid an awkward conversation and start buying fuel elsewhere. He will notice and jump me this summer about it I'm sure. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

I was just wondering if any of you receive a discount on fuel at your home airport. No one at my airport receives anything and I was curious if this is the norm. 100LL is currently $4.80. Thanks

Here's a pic of the winterization plate that was made for me. The mechanic also put a placard on the panel that reads "Remove Winterization Plate at 50oF OAT". I pull it at about 30o or so.

It's pretty slick. I'll take a pic the next time I'm out to the airport and post it here. What's nice is you can fine tune it. At first it the oil temp was a little high so he drill one or two more holes and the oil temp holds at 180 in the freezing cold. If it's too cool you can cover a hole with tape, but I've never had to.
