  1. Hey Alex, Send me a message once you get the IFR and commercial done, I know a guy who will hire you to fly survey in a 172, no multi necessary. Just as long as you don't mind being away from home a little bit.
  2. I didn't think ATP let you use your own airplane, anybody know for sure?
  3. Nice ride Ken!
  4. As Robert said, it's not required for a part 91 bird...
  5. @Browncbr1 is a little further west, but he might know someone closer. Welcome!
  6. I use the mutt muffs for my dog as well, I do have doubts about how well they work but I feel that something is better than nothing in this case. He never tries to take them off either which is nice.
  7. Thanks Chris, I've found a MFD 500 for sale but I believe there is internal hardware differences between the 500 & 1000.
  8. I would think its personal preference but most everyone I've seen has everything set up in degrees F.
  9. 30 hours would be more realistic. 40 is typical for a GPS/NAV/COM, ie 430W, 650, etc...
  10. Thanks, I was looking at an MFD earlier as well, but I need to confirm with Aspen that the PFD and MFD displays are identical...
  11. Amen David!
  12. We used to charge 25% as a standard mark up on parts, the mark up on avionics was sometimes more depending on the unit. I'd be willing to bet anyone on the forum who takes their car to the dealer pays at least $20-40 more per hour for labor than their aircraft mechanic charges, so think about that next time you want to gripe on the guy who puts their reputation and potentially career on the line when they sign their name in your logbook. I have always worked with owners in the past that wanted to supply their own parts and it usually isn't a big deal. As others have mentioned, if you are AOG and you're away from home, you're going to pay for it.
  13. @Alan Fox either has one or can get you one.
  14. Yes, the PFD unit is what I need. IIRC the PFD and the Config module are about the same price for the PRO system. The RSM and ACU are around $700 each.
  15. They are trying to limit jet traffic so they can eventually close the airport down and build more stupid houses. All those loud jets taking off our disturbing the neighbors, because we all know those people were there long before the airport was built...
  16. When we got our little guy I was pleading for Mooney as a name, but my girlfriend said no and we decided on Wilbur instead. R.I.P. Piper
  17. My NSD-1000's internal gyro has given up. Repair costs don't make sense when there are affordable solid-state options available. I am looking for an Aspen display (only the display, not the kit), I already have the other components necessary for the install. If anyone knows of a display for sale, please let me know. This includes demo units as I believe they are all the same part.
  18. I'm looking at this option now as well Craig. My HSI went belly up on the way back from AVL last week. I can get a 3308 for less than a G5, but my concerns are longevity and panel space. The Sandel is like 10.5 inches long. My NSD-1000 is a little over 8 and its a tight squeeze at that. Anybody have an Aspen display they want to sell...?
  19. Nope, the GTNs use SD cards, the GNS series use larger cards...
  20. I have heard a lot of great things as well, they are also very reasonable on price too. 3 AMUs vs 8 for ATP or others... I've tried contacting them via email without success, I think it's time I pick up the phone...
  21. Do you exercise the system regularly? The membranes inside the TKS panels can dry out, I think they say it should be turned on at least once a month...
  22. I'm looking to obtain my multi engine rating in the immediate future. I am currently commercial and instrument single engine rated. Looking to see if anyone here has a connection to a flight school or knows of someone willing to do instruction in their own airplane somewhere in the northeast (Philadelphia area). I would greatly appreciate any leads or help you folks can give me, thanks in advance!
  23. I hate to drift this thread but all this talk of IPA has me thirsty for a good India Pale ale...
  24. As I was driving home last night a streak of blue caught my eye on I-95, I glanced over and sure enough a mustang in the Kona Blue color, I couldn't keep my eyes off it! Great color choice Erik!
