Left Fuel gauge in cockpit no worky
mooniac15u replied to Loogie's topic in Modern Mooney Discussion
The power comes into the gauges at the terminals labeled "IGN". Each one is connected to the previous from left to right looking at it from the back. The malfunctioning gauge is on the far right ("B" in attached photo). It is getting power via a wire from from "A" to "B". If you put a jumper across those terminals you can bypass a potential bad connection. I've also attached a small section of the schematic for the gauge cluster. Sorry the quality of that image isn't very good but it shows how things are connected. Keep in mind that the schematic is showing the orientation from the front. On the photo I've also added a red circle where it looks like there could possibly be an issue. Is that ground wire in the circle making contact with terminal "A" or any of the connected wires? It is very hard to tell in the photo. -
Left Fuel gauge in cockpit no worky

The power to those gauges comes from a single wire attached to the far right gauge. The rest of the gauges are just daisy-chained together. The power for the last one comes from a short wire off the other fuel gauge which is clearly getting power. So, if it's a power problem it's in that last wire. You might want to check the connection at the other fuel gauge. You could try using an alligator clip test lead to bypass that last wire. If the gauge starts working it would confirm the problem is on the power side. -
Fitting 2 babies in a Mooney?.
mooniac15u replied to Ragsf15e's topic in Miscellaneous Aviation Talk
We used a Britax Roundabout (http://www.toysrus.com/buy/babies/britax-roundabout-g4.1-convertible-car-seat-onyx-e9lw31a-50256396 ) for the front-facing seat. It was very compact compared to some other models. For the infant seat we used the Graco Snugride carrier without the base. The base definitely makes it easier to get in and out of a car but the carrier can be attached with a standard seatbelt without the base which makes it much smaller. -

That was the hardest part of the whole process! -

I used to put two car seats in the back of my M20D. Only one was an infant seat. The rear-facing seats when they are little are more of a challenge than car seats for older kids. Also, not all car seats are the same dimensions. We went to Babies-R-Us with a tape measure and found the one with the smallest base so that the older kid would fit behind me. I'll try to find some photos later. -
@201er can give you a tip on where not to stay.

The gauges on an early J are just measuring resistance through the sensor. IIRC, a short to ground will cause that gauge to deflect full scale to the right. You might want to check for a short in the wire between the transducer and the gauge.
-
What year is your plane? The M20J came with either a 14V system (early models) or 28V system (later models). Is it possible that a 14V component (alternator, battery, voltage regulator) was installed on a 28V system or vice versa?

No back spring in landing gear actuators
mooniac15u replied to M20S Driver's topic in Modern Mooney Discussion
You mentioned mandatory bulletins, which is the only way they can introduce this stuff after the certification process. As far as the ICA section of the MM is concerned, it's irrelevant for any existing airframe because they can't make that stuff retroactive. If you take a look at the TCDS you will see that the later M20K's (S/N 25-2013 and up) as well as the M20S and M20TN all include 23.1529 as part of their "Certification Basis". So, if Mooney wanted to include something like this going forward they could. -
Airforms sells PMA'd replacement baffle parts for some models including the M20C. https://www.airforms.biz/index.php?route=product/manufacturer/info&manufacturer_id=14

No back spring in landing gear actuators
mooniac15u replied to M20S Driver's topic in Modern Mooney Discussion
"Mandatory" service bulletins aren't mandatory because we operate under Part 91. I don't think Part 23 vs CAR 3 has anything to do with it. -
No back spring in landing gear actuators
mooniac15u replied to M20S Driver's topic in Modern Mooney Discussion
The SB allows for inspection of the spring but it calls for a magnifier in the 16X to 40X range. -

It's actually the Eaton actuators that have the problem. http://www.mooney.com/en/sb/M20-282A.pdf -
anyone tried the skybolt cowl fasteners?
mooniac15u replied to rbridges's topic in General Mooney Talk
On an actual 201 the farthest aft 2700 series camloc is longer than the rest. It's listed as a 27S3-7 and the rest are 27S3-4. It might be different on your installation. -

No, it was manual gear. It was the first flight after some maintenance on the gear. The right main gear jammed and in the process of trying to put it down a retraction tube failed. After that the right main gear wasn't going anywhere.

Trim "sticking" at high speeds.

The Uncertainty Principle really deals with the precision with which you can measure pairs of parameters, most often position and momentum. Precise measurement of position precludes precise knowledge of momentum. It isn't a statement of direct influence of the observer on a single measurement. I think Observer Effect is what you are describing here. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Observer_effect_(physics) -
This thread is over a year old. I'm guessing the OP got this sorted out.

Try Dwaley Aviation. They can likely repair it for you at a very reasonable price. http://www.dawleyaviation.com

Jet A and 100LL are both mixtures of aliphatic hydrocarbons. As such they are miscible and the Jet A won't settle to the bottom.

A Google search for gee bee baffle seals turns up this: https://www.faa.gov/aircraft/safety/programs/sups/upn/media/98-071r.pdf Does he now have a PMA?

Which regulation requires aircraft paint to resist icing?

Installation of any new lights might not meet the viewing angle requirements for a specific airframe. If the angles aren't met then the aircraft isn't airworthy.

So, I can install any battery I want as long as it has a TSO?

That's not how that sentence structure works. The "appreciably affect" only applies to the first part of the list. The "other qualities affecting airworthiness" does not have an "appreciably" qualifier because they repeat the word "affect" but leave out the "appreciably."
