  1. Let em spin. The forward centrifugal gyroscopic forces will only enhance centerline directional control. Wilbur and Orville never toe tapped. No comment about their lack of wheels and wheel wells.
  2. 3. Not a bad idea, never really thought about that until now. As a poor boy growing up on an Northern Virginia farm, saw my dad start a 37 Ford many time with "Old Mac" in harness, pulling on a single tree and my mother releasing the clutch.
  4. San Diego to St. Louis to New York then across the Atlantic to Paris with an earth inductor compass?? (The Spirit of St. Louis) How spoiled are we going to get??
  5. Congratulation on your Garmin synthetic vision. Wonder when Foreflight will get with the program?
  6. The only problem I have with twins is the math. The chances of losing an engine is not double, but goes up as the square. Ie. you are four times more likely to lose an engine in a twin as a single. And losing mp or a prop governor at Vmc. would decidedly increase the laundry bill. (Former twin owner)
  7. This week, opened official looking letter from local county assessor's office. Inside was, please fill out this form so that we may assess your PERSONAL PROPERTY TAXES due on your aircraft. Personal property?? Did not receive this form after purchase of wheel barrow from Home depot...yet. Never received this form on any of the previous five aircraft I have owned. Called assessor's office and left message. Call returned one day later. I explained ac not used for any business use ie. rental, lease or charter whatsoever. Reply,"please fill out form so that we may make a correct assessment on your personal property taxes due". Another cup of coffee and rapidly realizing, the intrusive bullying will never end. Mail just delivered for today, suspect personal wheel barrow in big trouble.
  8. USPS to Kansas? I'm confused, I have been mailing all my sleep apnea studies to the FAA in Oklahoma city. It's getting harder to keep this govt. bureaucracy straight. My physician for 10 years, (Specialist in internal medicine) has just given up on practice and taken a salaried hospital position. Said enough was enough. I guess every profession is having its woes. Unfortunately, I am not seeing the light.
  9. Reduced power Up trim On slope, then flair with min mp. Rudder aligned with center line. Pretty much a straight forward Mooney approach.
  10. Duct tape and super glue available at Home Depot. We once sent a corporate jet back to Houston after he taxied a wing into a vertical steel porch support located in front of the FBO. Duct tape on leading edge and away he went. Saved the flight, not so sure about his job.
  11. With that suffix, I hope you always carry a black cat in the cockpit for good luck.
  12. Not sure the juice is worth the squeezing. I think the only technical changes with the "New" will be the data plate encryption.
  13. Bravo, Bravo! Congratulations on a great plane. Wondering how many "stage names" mooney has accumulated. Off hand, I can think of Bravo Acclaim Ovation, and Encore Have I missed any?? Maybe the next new model will be named applause.
  14. Anybody have a time line on the modified Rolls turbine IO550 replacement?
  15. Since I figured "Money Pit" was already taken, and after gasping at the 182 knots tas, just went with "Rapid Transit".
  16. Caveat Emptor: Planes, tires, batteries and women. As the old philosopher once said, "You only get what you pay for".
  17. Price? One internet rumor for the Acclaim Type S, $599,500-$631,600 I suspect it will be higher. The bad news is that no coupons or credit cards will be accepted.
  18. The Enigma code is broken. Thanks for your decryption skills. Now if I could just find the home page and the back button.
  19. Although Foreflight is great software and I never leave the runway without it, just wondering why the software geeks are unwilling to put a "Nearest Airport" and a "Direct To" button in the program? And while they are writing, a "Back Button and Home Button" would be most appreciated. (Oh yea, where is that elusive home page anyway) I know nearest and direct to functions are on the Garmin GPS watch, but a new watch coupled with my new card compass is over the top, tech. overload. A little help from Foreflight would be appreciated here. So far, they are totally stonewalling my e-mails. (Or in political terms, kicking the can down the road) Now, if they could just hire a Garmin tech guy????
  20. Following the Magenta line seems to work for me.
  21. I don't worry about the wrong airports. I just worry about the wrong runways.
  22. Garmin 155xl on e-bay at present time. Best offer.
  23. I think the answer is just more airspeed for proper warmth. In the Concord, fuselage friction heat was so intense, passenger windows were refrigerated to prevent hand and finger burns. Not sure how the Mooney would handle the buffeting at mach 1 though. Possibly a few issues here.
  24. Now, that pilot joke was real humor and I concur the new D2 will be significantly improved.
