  1. Tax abatements are huge to attract companies and have hiring quota's attached or are recinded retroactively normally. I dont believe CA offered squat, but Musk believed in the resource of talent to get in the bay area. He now knows he can go anywhere and the talent seeks him out. Graduates of engineering school place SpaceX and Tesla as their top desirable places to be employed. Tesla did take a Fed loan in 2008, as did F, GM and Chrysler. Tesla paid theirs back early with interest. GM needs another and hasnt paid the debt service even, but I digress. Eric is right, there are 2 kinds of people, those that hate Elon Musk and his successes with Space, Energy, Transportation, communication and soon social media, and those that applaud his ingenuity, groupthink disruption, and free speech posture. as Mark Levin would say, Im done.
  2. I think it was CA trying to tax him for "their fair share" after he left, not the other way around.
  3. Actually, the military is talking to spacex about starlink, but to what extent I am clueless and wish to remain so. Elon's disdain for shutting down free speech was never more evident when he refused to censor russian speech on starlink, while providing comms for Ukraine, something our current government couldnt/wouldnt do. His goal for involvement with twitter is really quite clear and he has stated as much many times. Perhaps when twitter banned the Babylon Bee he decided to take action to prevent speech surpression
  4. The left doesnt like him at all. He wont bend the knee. They are going nuts right now because they realize a big tool of control they had is now out of their hands, just like when he told the bay area to twirl The right erroneously think he is all about the green new deal, but he is not, rather he is for advancing the world towards sustainable energy, just not at the cost of society, He realizes this, like everything in the universe, takes time. As such, he suggest we immediately drill and fire up nuke plants to reverse the "problem" we now have on our hands, and that doesnt sit well with some on the left at all. Politically, the best I can figure is he is a libertarian
  5. for being so passive, he is already influencing
  6. Funny how one still gets rewarded for hard work, brilliance, and filling a need vs being a taker or living off the system. A leader, yes. He is not a religious leader as you suggest, IMO, however
  7. Its a great thing Tesla is moving to LFE batteries that use iron lithium and no Cobalt, heh?
  8. Maybe, Elon now owns 4 times more stock than Jack Dorsey in Twitter. Jack has now been deballed muted. Getting the rest of the gubbermint out of it might be a bit harder. Elon's stated disdain for the erosion of free speech was why he purchased it. He has been pretty successful in what he has set out to accomplish so far in spite of headwinds from all corners. Once I capitulated and quit betting against Elon, life has been personally much much better. Yes Elizabeth, I pay my fair share. Thankfully, there are those that still do bet against him leaving a huge window of opportunity for those less jealous and biased of his successes. I am convinced he didnt do this for the look at me, as he doesnt need to do that, he cant escape the press anyway just as Buffet, Rockefeller etc couldnt in their day.
  9. Elon just bought 9.2% of twitter today, because their algorithm for disinformation checking was preventing free speech. Things will be way different on twitter going forward. Meanwhile, the market has been opened now for 1 hour, and he has made 600 million on this investment. He now has more than enough disposable cash to buy Mooney. All he needs is a compelling reason such a move would benefit mankind, his main decision driver.
  10. ambiguity is the bedrock of ongoing legal profitability.
  11. and 'breakers' instead of pilots
  12. Today, Reece soloed in his 2009 Acclaim type S. This is the first time I have worked with a student pilot in my years of instructing, Reece is exceptional in his abilities and will make a great next gen Mooney pilot and owner. Well done Reece! If your personal standards are high enough, you can train in a Mooney
  13. As cold as its been in the great northland, it is probably normal. If your operating the fire breathing beast LOP, it will be exacerbated some. If your touring in the FL's, heat will also be impeded. Sure fire fix is a trip down to Tampa and Ill check it out Mike
  14. If Tesla bought Mooney, they wont be building M20's. No worry here Robert. They wont be buying it to continue down the same path. Unless you know a good IA that can work on an Electric VTOL, it might be well served to let Tesla service work on your Tesla plane.
  15. 1300 for a X performance, will be lower when I can get it from Tesla where my driving habits wont be "group thinked" but individually evaluated. I believe Tesla's hold 3 of the top 4 safest car ratings from NHTSA, but may be mistaken.
  16. Congrats!
  17. OASIS and Weep no more are both founding sponsors of the Mooney Summit, and continually give back to the Mooney Community. Eric is. also a Mooney Pros, Inc. Instructor. You wont go wrong up there. 2 words...fair and honest
  18. It is a nearly impossible task to have a non conflicting calendar date that is acceptable to our main sponsors, the venue availability, NBAA events, etc. Our other available venue date was conflicting with another PPP in Denver, but as it was, very few of our attendees will have a conflict as few are from that area and there are 4 more PPP's scheduled this year. Most of the doz or 2 pilots in this area that attend the MAPA PPP went to the one in Lakeland just a few weeks ago, and I am sure they will have another in Lakeland next Jan, shortly after the Summit. We knew it was a conflict, but it was the lesser of a lot of conflicts and something we had to nail down or put the Summit off another year. I have already spoken with Robert McGuire about it and he agreed, its tough. On a good note, those insisting to do both will only have to give up airport day on Sunday if they really want to come to the Summit from Oshkosh
  19. We talked about this last night. Depends on the skills of the avionics shop, but a sheet metal shop can easily do this.
  20. Great job @patrickf and a big attaboy for all the input from @Deb I have given your app link to a lot of the Mooney Pros, Inc clients and everyone is very appreciative. Ping me if you ever develop and Acclaim and Ultra version! Mike
  21. JD Straubel formed a company to recycle the batteries which F, GM, TSLA, Panasonic, LG and a host others have made a deal with to obtain the recycled materials for their batteries. Its far cheaper and cleaner than mining. JD is one of those guys who can get things done instead of pounding his chest about how great he is. And ya, when Redwood materials goes public, im in. https://www.redwoodmaterials.com/services
  22. cant find where I did claim that. What I claimed is I can kick the snot out of a lambo with my suv in a 1/4 mile, and unfortunately, mine is old enough I cant make it make unicorn fart noises like the new ones can
  23. Ray, I personally think their future is shorter than a lot of us old racers would even like. From a car manufacture perspective, every R&D dollar from the "big" 3 or the rest of the entrants for that matter is being spent on developing an EV strategy that might be able to be competitive with the company our current administration cannot seem to name. There is a reason for this, as they know which direction Mr. Market is pushing them. Design obsolescence has been around for a while, and why we dont see the roads filled with 1993 caddies and such, but I sure get your point about the HVAC replacement. The green way would be NO AC. (or do I mean AOC?) Replacing a boiler made in 1920 isnt exactly energy efficient from well thru installed life, but it is being done regularly. saving a few bucks on per mile cost is good, denying the congress more $ to steal from the highway fund even better, but stomping a lambo in a 1/4 mile in your SUV, priceless https://robbreport.com/motors/cars/tesla-model-x-plaid-lamborghini-huracan-evo-drag-race-1234667817/ Mike LEED AP
