  1. Nicely done Bob! I bet the old battery has good voltage, but won't supply the load. "On the Meter"... Just a volt meter correct, not a load meter? Exactly what happened to me. Congrats on 50 years! -Matt
  2. I'm sorry, what a mess -Matt
  3. Good luck with everything. My E is only 55 n numbers lower... I saw 793.. And got excited. Looks like a little time capsule! It would be hard to get a quote for under 15 for a major OH. I did everything I could on ours to save last year and it came in around 12k. I did all the assembly, disassembly, cleaning, install etc... Well... You have different cylinders so that might be better. Good luck with everything, like the attitude! -Matt
  4. KS-lol. There are a few people on here from that area that could help out... Scary what most shops charge these days, but there is some great talent available still. I have a great friend thats a good IA that way that might be able to help out... -Matt
  5. Not on a Mooney! Berry's will be fine. Some of the Lord mounts are better for aerobatic installs, but Berry makes good stuff as well. If Lord's are really 3x more I'd get the berry mounts! -Matt
  6. Only a few engine parts, gear leg castings and Trunions can't be remanufactured yet... Everything else is available...or can be $$$. I learned this spring that most of them are actually fully certified aircraft. I had thought most were Experimental. Most of the -51s now are pure art! Way nicer than my old Mooney! Lol. Still pretty sad they let it get away from them. -Matt
  7. Phil-Then an hour to reinstall the cowl!! Lol Shouldn't be too bad on the back side. Local shops are great in pinches like that. They can at least point you in the right direction! -Matt
  8. I see... I've always done the rise 75-100 rise thing at 900rpm. But having less rise might help it run cleaner on the gnd? I'd like to here some one give a refresher presentation on both TCM and Lyc fuel injection again! Lol. I was taught what the items do, but the corlation between each component and the entire system is where it counts! I still wonder what Pete's rise is... -Matt
  9. Thanks Byron, I'm just curious why the tempature has an effect on the ICO. Less air more fuel richer mixture?
  10. Idle mixture might need adjusting. In PHX summer vs winter, I always needed to adjust it... Just hot I bet! -Matt
  11. I was never a fan of the "look a like fighters" But yours is the best example of how to do it right!! The little play on words is great! Enjoy flying it! It looks like a rewarding airplane! Guess it helps that we are all partial to Mooneys. Well done! -Matt
  12. Hi Bob, keep an eye on it. I lost a plane power altenator with about 10 hrs on it. I think it later wiped out the battery. It was difficult to notice because the battery may have men failing anyway... Plane power said some diode became hot and unsoldered itself. That said, even after a year of sitting on the shelf before install, plane power fully backed their product.. If you call the factory, they can give you expected exact voltage readings at each terminal. Sounds like your onto things early with your diogongonstics. The new ALT has been working fine. -Matt
  13. Needs another 70A system just for the system itself! But the system works really well. It's believe its certified on other light pistons. I Looked into it heavily on an Evolution a few years ago. -Matt
  14. Hi Byron, the thread got me thinking again about the lube for the actuator. The MLG actuator mentions Aeroshell 5 with the 10% moly B or Mil-prf-23827 which is Aeroshell 7. Now Aeroshell 33 and Aeroshell 7 have similar mil spec numbers. Except the 33 has a "C" at the end of it and they are type 1 and type 2 greases. Wich can't be mixed... So according to the MM we could just use A/S 7 in the actuator?? Thoughts? I know you recommend the Lasar mix solution, but just needed a refresher! Actually bought a small grease gun for the mix option, but have several guns already full of 7. Thanks!! -Matt
  15. That's it! -Matt
  16. Haha! Just bought a can! Sounds like a good idea! Also, I put a key chain ring and lock wire extension around the CB that's down by the handle. That CB is tricky to grab parked on the ground, let alone flying around trying to dump the gear. Citations even have shear wire on the EMR gear extensions on the N2 bottles.. and their operated by a lawn mower cable! Still beats having the Gear welded down! -Matt
  17. Looks nice Pete! Did you use the old bezels and just cover them? Might be interested in one of the old bird covers if there still laying around. Nice work!! Nice choice on the leather! They make good stuff! Did the company CJ and Heli in Spinneybeck Espinoza -Matt
  18. I rubbed out a chalky old C402 in college with some Turpentine I believe. (Lots of terry cloth) Test a spot on the belly first. I don't want to repaint your airplane for you...
  19. What temp did you use? I wouldn't feel up to it! It will probably be really surprising for you unless you caculated the departure at 100f. If you caculated using the 100f already and it's anything less than 100f and a headwind component, only then I'd consider it. I think 100f vs 59f (standard day) would be more noticeable than a couple hundred lbs... But to make it work, You could leave at dawn or later in the evening, Hopefully it's blowing 25kts, and maybe get gas down the road at a lower elevation/temp. Have fun!! -Matt
  20. Experimental Exibition would be the best catagory if you really wanted to do it. Other categories have experiation dates that would apply. Market Survay, and R&D are usually granted only 6mo tickets. All of the experimantal categories have ops limits that need to be obayed. The EE catagory would require a program letter. The letter needs to list airports that are outside of the given operator area. I.e. If you had a 300nm "practice area" you'd be required to fax, mail, call, your FSDO to operate outside of the area. No response is needed from the FSDO but it's a silly process. I don't think it would be practical to do. The resale value would be cut in half, and recertifing the aircraft back into the certified catagory would cost a minimum of 3-4k. I understand the frustration, but it's all part of the deal right now. An RV7 is a really sweet airplane! -Matt
  21. Nice work Scooter!! I feel the same way!!O/h on the prop this week...
  22. Absolutely!! Good luck!! -Matt
  23. On the older a-g models the back seat cushion is usually a bench seat. It's usually foam, the springs are installed to the seat pans/upper wing structure. Once the seat is removed or pulled back, pull a few panels both left and right of the centerline. Then look to the most aft portion "wall" that you can see, that is the rear spar. Look specifically at the seam between the angle and the spar webbing. That will be the Area that is most prone to corrosion. Post a few clear pics on here before your decision. I'm sure others will comment on the general condition of the aircraft. Good luck!! -Matt
  24. PTK-Not your imagination at all. Tempest are great! The Champion debate is no longer! -Matt
