  1. Get another pilot to go with you. You fly, and he will help you navigate the NOTAM and help you look out for traffic. Teamwork, You can do this! Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk HD
  2. Anyone know if this mod is available for the C's. I have to say our chopped off wing tips do look ugly
  3. http://m.youtube.com/watch?v=PGsbSj6Hb2k You can try to find one of these. I assume you have already considered folding bikes which can be pretty nice, take little space, and you don't have to deal with gasoline in a gas tank. I just happened to be reading another aviation forum today and someone posted this video. I don't know if there are modern folding scooters. Maybe someone here knows better. 4. Congrats. Very nice C indeed, and I envy your hangar, specially at that price. I pay more for one that does not look nearly as nice or as large as yours. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk HD
  5. During a Sun N Fun last year the AeroLed folks showed as side-by-side comparison with the Whelen light by aiming them both at the ceiling of the hangar. I have to say the AeroLed appeared to be quite a bit brighter. I'm happy with the Whelen I have though and given that I try to avoid flying at night as much as possible the lower cost was icing on the cake. If you routinely fly at night (or just want the brighter light) I would definitely take a closer look at the AeroLed Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk HD
  6. No, I think I will choose not to get dragged back into this stupid discussion. Specially not when we have reached the point of calling the Russians peace keepers and we are responsible for genocide and all the world's troubles. Too far apart to have any meaningful discussion. My apologies for taking the bait. I'm out. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk HD
  7. Wow the Russians are piece keepers now. This just keeps getting better
  8. I guess I'll reserve judgement here since I have not seen pictures of this damage, specially the dents. I will say though that I would be pretty ticked off if Mooney recommended re-skinning portions of the wing over minor dents that are routinely signed off by A&P's simply because the have determined there is no internal structural damage and they are aerodynamically inconsequential. As an aerospace engineer I have signed off more dents on military aircraft over the last 25 years that I care to remember. The easy/safe answer for Mooney is to say 'replace' but I would hope they care enough about their customers to give such dispositions due diligence. Again, not having seen the damage perhaps they did and their recommendation was based on sound engineering, but I don't know....
  9. Another big advantage is that I now routinely use my landing light in congested airspace as it has little effect in my current draw. Not so with the 200 watt incandescent bulb.
  10. I have the Whelen Parmetheus PAR 46 LED landing light and I like it.
  11. Would love to run LOP, but my 0-360 does not like it that much, flaps for takeoff, Camguard with every oil change, I have owned a parrot, but I change pants every day Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk HD
  12. Wow! Russia is our friend? really?? In what parallel universe is that so? Certainly not in this one. We have not a single reason to be grateful to them, and more than sufficient cause to be vigilant as they would like nothing more than to see our downfall. I think this thread has run its course, let's get back talking about the one thing we do agree on. Our Mooney's are the best!! Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk HD
  13. Unfortunately the government in Cuba is not interested in a better life for the Cuban people. Their only interest is maintaining power and absolute control at the expense of everything and everyone. Lifting the sanctions would only enrich the bastards in power and give them the financial means to perpetuate the regime. I have no doubt the Cuban people might see some improvement in living conditions as American money flows in, but they will see no improvement at all in liberty and freedom and in fact it may get worse. I would love to fly my Mooney there some day. Would love to take my Mom to visit family she has not seen in 40 years. But the bitterness runs deep, specially when some in the family have been murdered for expressing their disdain for communism. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk HD
  14. Needless to say, I don't share your view at all. In the 50 years that communism took hold of Cuba it has gone from the pearl of the Caribbean to the shit hole it currently is. Probably the reason untold numbers die every year trying to reach freedom in south Florida. If the Cuban people had a choice, they would absolutely choose change, and change will come some day but not by being nice to the murderous regime currently in place.
  15. I have this exact setup including a clear hose with a fitting that I screw to the reservoir. I also have a smaller hose that I attach to the overfill tube on top of the reservoir. During annual I pump a whole gallon of hyd fluid through the brakes while someone pumps the brakes. Seems to work quite well. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk HD
  16. Boy I hope you are not saying the Cuban people think their revolution turned out well. The Cuban revolution has lasted only because it is an island and the government has all the guns and there are no means by which the people can fight back. just like in Russia the government exercises brutal control, the slightest dissent will land you and your family dead or in jail for 20 years. 17. Well I'm certainly not advocating that we go to war over Crimea, but simply doing nothing is an invitation for Putin to grab more land in his dream to reconstitute the old USSR. The hopes we had over a more democratic Russia are simply gone. The old guard was simply replaced by an oligarchy intent on holding absolute power and wealth and they still hate us as much as they ever did. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk HD
  18. David, you probably know my brother in law, Dr. Seoane. He is a pilot as well, owns a Cherokee 6, and volunteers at the clinic every year. I stay at his house every year as he lives right there. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk HD
  19. survey taken. hopefully some of the feedback will make its way back to the FAA and they will actually listen........nahhh that won't happen Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk HD
  20. Congrats Tony!! Nice looking Mooney. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk HD
  21. I dipstick each tank, compare against fuel totalizer, and adjust if required (typically within one gallon). I also created a spreadsheet that I run on my iPad for fuel management. Every time I switch tanks I just enter the remaining fuel per the totalizer and the spreadsheet keeps track of exactly how much I have remaining in each tank. On long flights I have used this to run one tank down to almost empty, leaving a full hour of reserve in the other to land or shoot the approach. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk HD
  22. Ok, so starting Thursday at 1:30 at the sunset grill. I'll be wearing a Mooney baseball cap. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk HD
  23. Looks like you have an M20J so I would first search for LOP (lean of peak) operations and you should find lots of threads with useful information. I have a C so can't really run LOP, but if I had a J that's what I would do. In my C I typically cruise at 65 percent power and I lean until she complaints then enrich a tad. I have an engine monitor too so I make sure my CHT's are below 380. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk HD
  24. Sounds like a plan. Will there actually be a Mooney tent this year? Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk HD
