There is absolutely no need to remove the ALCLAD layer and I would be furious if I saw a paint shop doing that to my airplane. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk HD

Don't know. I set my DG to the vertical compass every 30 minutes at the same time I switch fuel tanks. I have three separate GPS's in the plane but they show you track, not heading. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk HD

friend looking for low cost backup GPS
Hector replied to RocketAviator's topic in Avionics/Panel Discussion
Is he using the iPads built-in GPS, or an external GPS. I've never had the external GPS drop out in the iPad. Maybe a cheap $100 solution. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk HD -
Thanks Bob. That worked. Oscar, beautiful video once again. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk HD

Check your landing gear closely!!!
Hector replied to usafhaynes1's topic in Vintage Mooneys (pre-J models)
Thanks Mike. I've heard a lot about Phil and was actually thinking of him as I wrote the post. Have not heard of Arnold, but the Florida Mooney lunch group is holding the 10th anniversary reunion in Leesburg In January and I was planning to attend. Maybe I'll call Arnold and see if he can get me in. Do you have contact info for him? Both Phil and Arnold would be very convenient for me (short flight from KCRG) Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk HD -
I think it would come in handy if you fly into Sun N Fun or Oshkosh and camp with the airplane. In fact, any camping situation even if not flying related. I was looking at it just for that. Looking forward to the PIREP . I was looking at a similar unit (Goal Zero Yeti 150) in amazon. Less expensive but lower capacity. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk HD

Check your landing gear closely!!!

I'm a little paranoid now. My C has been flawless since I purchased her over a year ago. My local A&P does not see a lot of Mooneys in his shop, but he does have the tools to do the pre-load check (he actually showed them to me). During my first annual I did not get to see him do the gear swings and pre-load checks. I'm going by faith and his word that it was done correctly. For peace of mind now I'm thinking I should check it myself (rent or buy the tools), AND maybe its not a bad idea to let a real Mooney pro do the annual on my bird, if not every annual maybe at least every 2 or 3 years. It's a touchy subject though, my local A&P calls me to schedule maintenance when is due. He is not likely to take it well if I go somewhere else. He is a very good wrench, and I have confidence in him, but the minions that work for him scare me. I would hope he understands as I would continue to use him for unscheduled maintenance and some annuals possibly, but not all. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk HD -
What is best way to start a flooded engine
Hector replied to rockydoc's topic in Vintage Mooneys (pre-J models)
I've always heard of flooding issues with the IO360, but I've yet to experience it in my 67C (O360). Are you sure you don't have a weak battery? Cold start in my O360 consists of mixture rich, boost pump on, pump the throttle twice and push it in about 1/2 inch , prop full forward, hit ignition and it starts in two turns. Hot start is the same but I don't pump the throttle at all or maybe just once. Starts right away every time. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk HD -
I say we take up a collection and buy the man a new pair of pants. Maybe black cargo pants so he can wear them for weeks and won't look too dirty Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk HD

Progressive transition glasses ( the ones that get dark even without UV). Like them a lot.. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk HD -
I'm based out of KCRG (Jacksonville). They are older T- hangars but they have electricity and keeps the airplane indoors where I can do most of my own maintenance. I really don't know the going rate at other large cities in Florida but I think if you move out of the large population centers the prices get more reasonable. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk HD

I was going to mention the hangar rates in south east Florida but forgot. Glad Fantom mentioned it. In northeast Florida I pay $250 and many other places in Florida are fairly reasonable ( relatively speaking of course), but not the Miami area. I would assume there is a specific reason you want to relocate there, because there are lots of others places in the state I would choose over Miami. Don't get me wrong, I grew up in a Miami and love the culture, but quite frankly I guess I'm getting old and now prefer a slightly slower pace, less traffic congestion, fewer insane drivers, etc. I now fly there every couple of months (KTMB) to go check on my parents and see old friends. Much better this way. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk HD

I own a 67C in Northeast Florida. Like everything else, the condition of your airplane is highly dependent on the owner. I keep my bird in a hangar, fog it with corrosion-X during annual just as the previous owner did, and I don't have any corrosion problems. Maintain your bird properly and you will be fine enjoying all the cool places we get to fly to around here. Florida is flat and essentially not much more than sea-level everywhere so you can cruise below 10K all the time. You will enjoy sea -level performance, but keep in mind that during the summer months it gets pretty darn hot here so keep that in mind both with respect to performance and CHT management. In my C, I climb at 120 with cowl flaps fully open and CHT's stay around 380. If I try Vy they will shoot to 410-420 or so. Better in the winter but it is now ingrained in me to climb at 120 so its what I do all the time. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk HD

I have a panel mounted 496 w/XM as well and I like it, but rumor has it that Santa may bring me a Stratus2 to use with the iPad mini. If so, I will be canceling my XM subscription better resolution or not. You may want to do a search as I have seen folks here post pictures of both, and yes XM did look better but is it $40-60 a month better? Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk HD

Your numbers are very close to mine. At 7500 feet, 2400 RPM, and 22in I get 142 kts on a 4 way speed run. I have a few mods, but not the 201 windshield.

M20C - Throttle linkage coming disconnected
Hector replied to jmbaute's topic in Vintage Mooneys (pre-J models)
Unfortunately I worked an aircraft mishap that resulted from a missing cotter pin (not installed during last maintenance action). If you saw that cotter pin installed you may also want to check it is the proper size and properly installed. I have seen installed cotter pins that are significantly undersized for the application (too thin). Combined with aggressive installation and you can pull the pin through the bolt hole. Depending on the application and some bad luck and the cotter pin can fall out. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk HD -
