bnicolette Posted August 23, 2013 Report Posted August 23, 2013 Hi folks, Some of us on the west side of PA are planning on attending this event. John Dye from Bad Attitude Aviator Training Company will be doing a seminar starting at 11am. (Aircraft Upset - A Serial Killer Among Us). He did this presentation at Oshkosh this year. If you are planning on attending please email me at: bnicolette@yahoo.com. I will be there by 10:30am at the latest. Those not wanting to do the seminar the food begins at noon. Make sure to bring your prop tags to post on your plane. There are a lot of "sightseers" milling around. Last year I also brought a chair and sat in front of my plane for a while answering questions. Lots of pilots/non pilots walking the flight line. If there are folks coming from far away and you all want to meet up before going to the fly in, Mcpilot (Doc Mike) has offered up his hangar (2nd home/clubhouse) at FWQ as a staging area. So let me know if you are interested in doing that and we'll plan on meeting there earlier. Marauder Posted August 23, 2013 Report Posted August 23, 2013 Now Matt Chapman is out here with his bird... Wow! Personal air show! And I thought cleaning bugs off of my plane was going to be my excitement for the day! Quote
Marauder Posted August 23, 2013 Report Posted August 23, 2013 Chris aren't they there sat and sun? It's practice time! The TFR is up and they are doing their routines. I have some nice videos of the BD doing acrobatics over my hangar. Quote
Marauder Posted August 23, 2013 Report Posted August 23, 2013 Holy crap! A P51 just flew through full throttle and on the deck! Quote

bnicolette Posted August 23, 2013 Author Report Posted August 23, 2013 What time can I get into the airport on Sunday if I were to come there? Quote
Marauder Posted August 23, 2013 Report Posted August 23, 2013 What time can I get into the airport on Sunday if I were to come there? TFR is on from 11:30 am through 5:30 PM both Saturday and Sunday. I spoke to the airport manager and he says people should be able to get in and out before it goes live. Quote
Marauder Posted August 23, 2013 Report Posted August 23, 2013 Ok Brett, i will start another thread on the New Garden. Cliff note version, if you elect to come to the air show, you will need to get here before 11:30 am and stay until 5:30 PM. When you fly in, you will be moved to the transient airplane parking and be asked to pay for the air show. The show runs both days. Quote
bnicolette Posted August 23, 2013 Author Report Posted August 23, 2013 Thanks Chris. I was hoping maybe I could come after church on Sunday but it doesn't appear that is going to work. Saturday I'll be at the other fly-in. Nice to have an airshow right at your home field with front row seating from your hangar!! Next year I'll be expecting an invite!! Quote

Hank Posted August 24, 2013 Report Posted August 24, 2013 Mother Nature says, please stay home today . . . This is typical of the last two or three weeks, every day. It's getting old now. Quote
bnicolette Posted August 24, 2013 Author Report Posted August 24, 2013 I know Hank that fog just won't quit. We'll make it happen sometime. Quote
Marauder Posted August 24, 2013 Report Posted August 24, 2013 Should have come east! Beautiful day! Quote
Marauder Posted August 26, 2013 Report Posted August 26, 2013 So Brett, where is the PIREP? Haven't heard a word from you on how it went. Quote
bnicolette Posted August 26, 2013 Author Report Posted August 26, 2013 They had an excellent turnout and wx was phenomenal. Seminar was first class with some really good information on Upset Recovery Training. They do training in an Extra 200 and a Super Decathlon. Definitely something EVERY pilot should be required to do. Most pilots aren't accustomed to handling their airplane except in the smallest of it's operating envelope (10 degrees nose down/25 degrees nose up/45 degree bank) Anything other than that spells trouble which is why most folks are scared to stall their airplanes. Lots of good info and I would highly recommend their training. I've been through a 20 hour aerobatic course but haven't done any aerobatics in 10 plus years. Definitely time for a refresher. There were 5 Mooneys there but no one from our Mooneyspace board. Hand and Xftrpilot got fogged in and Mcpilot was concerned with the abundant sunshine. It was a good day though and really nice to get out and talk to all the different pilots with their planes on display. I would estimate about 150 airplanes in all and roughly 100 hotrod cars that drove in. Quote
