Mcstealth Posted January 9, 2013 Report Posted January 9, 2013 I need a mentor please. One (of two) I can ask questions without the scrutiny of the whole board. I flew my first long for me cross county last week (4.2 Hobbs) and I learned that I have a lot to learn. David Quote
Mcstealth Posted January 9, 2013 Author Report Posted January 9, 2013 Updated my profile. Thanks for pointing it out. David Quote
co2bruce Posted January 9, 2013 Report Posted January 9, 2013 If you let us know which model your flying, and if the info your seeking is aircraft specific or general knowledge that would help. You are free to contact me off board @ co2bruce@bellsouth.net Quote
Dave Marten Posted January 9, 2013 Report Posted January 9, 2013 Happy to help you out. That's what we're here to do! Glad you got your bird away from the nest. dandtmarten@hotmail.com Quote
Jeff_S Posted January 10, 2013 Report Posted January 10, 2013 You will get no end of offers for support and guidance; we've all been there and leaned on people who went before. But it would make sense to find someone who's local and you can call frequently, maybe even go fly with. There are lots of people in Texas who belong to this Forum so I'm sure you'll find a good friend. Quote
PilotDerek Posted January 10, 2013 Report Posted January 10, 2013 I've never flown my plane (or any plane) that long yet. I would love to hear about your experiences, but can understand that you want to keep them private. Quote
WardHolbrook Posted January 10, 2013 Report Posted January 10, 2013 I'd be happy to talk to you. Ward Holbrook, ATP, CFI, CFII, CFI-ME, CFI-Glider wardholbrook@gmail.com Quote
GaryP1007 Posted January 10, 2013 Report Posted January 10, 2013 At the risk of sounding negative I think there is an opportunity to reflect a bit on how "opinions" of some members come across on this board. The fact that Mcstealth requested "without the scrutiny of the whole board" is telling. Sometimes I see opinions posted in such an arrogant manner that I dont even want to read them. Or sometimes responses take on a flavor of "how stupid are you?" that I would be less inclined to ask for advice in the future. I hope I don't get slammed for this.....because certainly it is not the majority of posts......but I would hope we could share experiences, offer opinions and help people with problems constructively. 1 Quote
richardheitzman Posted January 10, 2013 Report Posted January 10, 2013 I personally dont recall anyone getting flammed for talking about flying or issues with flying. Quote
201er Posted January 10, 2013 Report Posted January 10, 2013 At the risk of sounding negative I think there is an opportunity to reflect a bit on how "opinions" of some members come across on this board. The fact that Mcstealth requested "without the scrutiny of the whole board" is telling. I read this the opposite way. McStealth makes it sound like he did something so extraordinarily wrong that he'd be too embarrassed to share it. Yet, it is from these shared experiences that the rest of us learn and thus why we have a public forum. Reading about the guy who retracted his gear after landing or the other one who nicked his prop and went around raised some very eye opening points. I don't think anyone on the board is hard on someone who fesses up when they screwed up. Unless it's something extremely illegal, sharing it with the board is the more honorable thing and may help someone else in the same position in the future. Quote

Seth Posted January 10, 2013 Report Posted January 10, 2013 I think MooneySpace for the most part has been a great place, and while yes certain personalitites and opinions at times can be grating to others, I'm comfortable telling most of my bad stories, but I admit, I've kept somethings to myself. David, I plan to get my CFI at some point, but I am not a CFI at this time. Please feel free to PM me. I'll send you my other contact information if you'd ever like to chat. -Seth Quote
