Looks like I have an oil leak in my 1967 M20F that is coming from the prop governor BOX (below the accessory case).    The mechanic and I had the cowling off, engine oil warm, engine running about 1500rpm and when the prop was cycled you could see oil seep from the joint holding the two half's of the prop governor together.  Tightening the bolts did not seem to solve the issue.   Any one have a similar experience?   How did you get it fixed?  Was it expensive?

When was the last gov overhaul? It may be time, which will save you the expense at engine overhaul. Probably about 1-2K for the overhaul, or about 2.5K for a new one. Others on this forum may have more details.

Just had my 3-blade Hartzell overhauled in October, 2009.  No blades had to be replaced.  Cost was $2,500.00.

Hope this helps.

We had our Hartzell H-1 governor on our IO-360A1A, overhauled in '07.  It was leaking too.  Excellent work done by Marvin Schmid, Truespeed Aero Governors, Inc., Van Nuys, CA.  Tel # 818 997-8429.  First class customer service as well.  $663.90.
