I've accepted a job with a company in Houston and will be traveling back and forth between Houston and Baton Rouge over the next few months and relocating to Houston in September so I would appreciate advice regarding the various airport options in Houston to base N9453V.

The only airports I've used in Houston are HOU and DWH with HOU being possibly the best option as it's fairly close to the company's office in the Greenway area (near 610 and 59). From other people I've talked to it sounds like the other options within a reasonable distance are EFD, SGR and IWS.

I'd be open to both tie-downs and hangars/t-hangars if something is available sub-$500. I also fly a fair bit of IFR, so an ILS and multiple approaches is a plus. I'm also lazy so reasonably priced full serve fuel is a plus too. :)

Thanks,

Andew,

You are leaving a very nice town.  We have quite a few options but I will tell you about my homebase, DWH.  There are probably a few T Hangars left at $350 month.  Some are old and rusty but you can seal them a bit yourself. There is usually a few to choose from.  Water doesnt drain well between them but doesnt sit more than a few hours.  Of course we have a tower, cleareance, etc.  There are lots of community hangar options too but you will get tired from moving others planes around to dig yours out.  Same price as T Hangar too.  Fuel service is fast.  There are a couple of good maintenance facilities and quite a few A&Ps. There is one avionics shop that is always overbooked.  They are putting up a fence with keyed entry in the next few weeks.  This far north many not be an option for you.

I am sure others may chime in.

You should decide where you are living first.  For instance if you were to drive a triangle between each of the airports you mention each leg would e 45-60 minutes.  You could easily ending up living over an hour through traffic from efd.  If you decide to live a bit further out AXH and LVJ also become options.

Anyway, welcome to Houston!  We live in clear lake area and hope to see you around!

If you settle on the east side, have a look at Baytown Humphrey.  For your trips to/from Baton Rouge it would be an easy place to call home.  Never had an occassion to use maintenance there, but service is great, fuel is cheap, and last I checked they had a couple of gps approaches.
