Chris newton Posted October 7, 2025 Report Posted October 7, 2025 I have a boom beam on my 89J model. It quit working. Are they still serviceable or do I just need to replace the whole thing?
N201MKTurbo Posted October 7, 2025 Report Posted October 7, 2025 Whalen owns and sells the Lopresti Boom Beam lights. I would contact them for parts. https://flywat.com/collections/boombeam-landing-lights
warren.huisman Posted October 10, 2025 Report Posted October 10, 2025 Same happened to me just recently. I replaced it with LED. It was a simple replacement. Whelen no longer carries the 12V ballast and they couldn’t tell me how to check if the bulb was bad. A bulb is $300 IIRC the LED was just north of $400. It was a simple decision. jetdriven Posted October 10, 2025 Report Posted October 10, 2025 I have a ballast for one if you want to try it
Steve Dawson Posted October 12, 2025 Report Posted October 12, 2025 I've replaced my landing and taxi lights with the Whelen G3's that I bought from Jim Gallagher who is a sponsor here and can be contacted through MS. Great improvement, much less current draw (3.8 amps @ 14v) as well as having a very long service life. Not to mention they're less money than the Moon Beam balast alone. https://flywat.com/products/parmetheus™-g3 Contact information. https://mooneyspace.com/profile/13533-osuav8ter/ gallagheraviationllc@gmail.com
kortopates Posted October 13, 2025 Report Posted October 13, 2025 HID’s are still the brightest. But generally are good for 2000 hrs. If you have a dual light system e.g. landing and taxi lights you can swap bulbs to verify it’s the bulb and not ballast. But it should just be a bulb replacement. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk 1
76Srat Posted October 29, 2025 Report Posted October 29, 2025 Friendly public service announcement/suggestion: If able, you might want to double-check and edit/correct the subject title to your original post. I doubt many will know what a "Lo presto moon been issue" involves, but many will know what a "LoPresti Boom Beam" issue will involve. Also would be nice to edit that title for future researchers to find it. 1 1
