Chris newton Posted October 7 Report Posted October 7 I have a boom beam on my 89J model. It quit working. Are they still serviceable or do I just need to replace the whole thing?
N201MKTurbo Posted October 7 Report Posted October 7 Whalen owns and sells the Lopresti Boom Beam lights. I would contact them for parts. https://flywat.com/collections/boombeam-landing-lights
warren.huisman Posted October 10 Report Posted October 10 Same happened to me just recently. I replaced it with LED. It was a simple replacement. Whelen no longer carries the 12V ballast and they couldn’t tell me how to check if the bulb was bad. A bulb is $300 IIRC the LED was just north of $400. It was a simple decision. Steve Dawson Posted October 12 Report Posted October 12 I've replaced my landing and taxi lights with the Whelen G3's that I bought from Jim Gallagher who is a sponsor here and can be contacted through MS. Great improvement, much less current draw (3.8 amps @ 14v) as well as having a very long service life. Not to mention they're less money than the Moon Beam balast alone. https://flywat.com/products/parmetheus™-g3 Contact information. https://mooneyspace.com/profile/13533-osuav8ter/ gallagheraviationllc@gmail.com
kortopates Posted October 13 Report Posted October 13 HID’s are still the brightest. But generally are good for 2000 hrs. If you have a dual light system e.g. landing and taxi lights you can swap bulbs to verify it’s the bulb and not ballast. But it should just be a bulb replacement. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk 1
