cliffy Posted June 29 Report Posted June 29 Interesting that a current thread is in this arena right now- Working on another multiday Mooney maintenance seminar (somewhere overseas :-) (May come to pass and may not.) and looking for your input as to what subjects "you" would like to see covered in the class room and in a hands on session in the hangar if YOU were to attend same. Just trying to see if my current iteration covers the majority of what Mooney owners would want to see. Pass along your ideas please. This is for airframe and engine subjects only We won't go into the multitude of electronic panel options out there. Quote

How many owners have actually read through the checklist to know what your shop is tasked to do during the inspection? For instance, is your shop/A&P/IA performing a pre-inspection engine run? https://mooney.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/12/100-HOURANNUAL-Inspection-Guide.pdf 1 Quote
Marc_B Posted June 29 Report Posted June 29 +1 going through annual inspection, including lube points, choice of lubricants and timing/frequency of lubrication. Common items on a Mooney PrePurchase Inspection and what to make sure gets done. Common points where corrosion are found and easy ways to look for them. Gear & flight control rigging; what's right and how to tell when it's wrong. Removing & replacing gear doors for grass field landings. Examples of various equipment on the bench (i.e. alternator, magneto) and how they're serviced, what fails, and maintenance should/must do's. Gear swings and emergency gear deployment. Easy owner performed maintenance items (oil changes, tire change, etc.). 2 Quote

There could even be enough o-rings that everyone who wants to can re-do their gas caps. How to put the airplane on jacks. Replace a tires, re-pack bearings Lubrication points What to look for during the airframe inspection Classroom portion Interpret borescope images Interpret engine data for engine monitor How to read your logbook How to keep track of upcoming items that are due How do search for AD, SB How/where to buy parts from Discussion on what parts to stock How to communicate with the IA/AP When to schedule maintenance How to deal with various AOG issues I learned from that maintenance version 3 1 Quote
natdm Posted June 30 Report Posted June 30 No input other than I’d watch or attend as much of this as possible. Amazing topics. Quote
Marc_B Posted July 5 Report Posted July 5 https://www.ocflightlessons.com/maintenance-workshop/ https://aufwind.aero/workshop/ https://normanaviation.com/owner-maintenance-workshop/ A couple places offering owner maintenance workshops. A variety of topics and plans. Not sure who still offers active courses. But owner maintenance workshop seem like great idea in general. Gateway to owner assisted annuals maybe? Or at least a better understanding of what to look for and how systems work. You’d at least be better able to help troubleshoot issues, monitor post maintenance and return to service, and understand your aircraft better. Quote
