FlyingDude Posted April 19 Report Posted April 19 Hi all, I need to fix some parts of the panel and I was looking for the correct paint. I called the maintenance shop in MN that did the panel in 2015 (thankfully the logbook entry had the work order) and they said that the color used was "Atlas Neutral 4630". I google it, but can't find anything. Atlas Neutral shows up on ebay only, and all color codes are minimum 6 digits, with also extra letters. I tried using the color match apps on my phone but the color hits don't really match what I see... Any ideas? Quote
PT20J Posted April 19 Report Posted April 19 Auto paint stores have a hand held guns for color matching. If there is part of the panel you can remove to take into the store, that would be the easiest. If not and there is a store close to the airport maybe you could work some kind of a deal to have them come out to the plane. I might also call the shop again and ask them where they bought the paint and then talk to that store directly. 1 Quote

If you have a small piece to remove, take it into their shop. No need for a hand held gun. You'll get better results at their shop in the correct light with their camera pointed straight down at the piece you bring them. 1 Quote
N201MKTurbo Posted April 20 Report Posted April 20 When I go into the paint shop to match a color, they usually hand me a daylight color temperature flashlight and a giant book of color chips. After I pick one out, the nice color lady asks what kind of paint it is, how old it is and how much time it spends out in the sun. Then she fudges the color a little bit and says it should match perfectly about six months after applying. So far she has been spot on. 1 Quote
Marc_B Posted April 20 Report Posted April 20 @FlyingDude it may be a powder coat color and not a paint. You may be able to ask your shop for a small 2”x2” piece and use that for a color match. Unless custom color you picked, there’s a good chance the shop uses same color routinely. When I did my panel I had my shop take a round instrument cutout and powder coat it then wrote the color code and name on the back. Threw it with my logs for future reference if needed. 2 Quote
